Middle-class white boy angst sounds like a great way to put it. I get the impression some people like it simply because it is cool to like it and because of the whole anarchist theme. I actually really liked Fight Club, for some reason it just clicked with me. Things like finding non-conventional ways to supporting yourself and living in an old abandoned house are the sorts of things I have dreamed about doing myself since I was like 14. I also have a great deal of respect for that film in how closely it follows the novel it was based on.
