The mix in the Rancor scene is muddy, but it's not irreplaceable. We have the source music, we can recreate or redesign the Rancor's noises from those that can be isolated and others, and the rest of the audio elements are pretty simple to replace.

Angel are you going to turn this into a game of spot the cat's eyes?

Yes :P

Even if Ady could only add the blue lighting...that would help tremendously!

it can be done. :)

Oh, this new opening for ROTJ sounds exciting, Angel. Keep us posted!

Will do

I'd do something about Boussh's dialogue, too. So lazy and limited. Must be one of those languages where every word has 40 meanings or something.

There's nothing lazy about Boussh's dialogue. I would say it's actually had more thought put into it that the others. It would have been easy to put together some foreign sounding dialect (using some unusual-sounding real Earth language like with the Ewoks) but they decided to have a complex dialect where context and stress is everything.

I think the way Boussh speaks is a very strong creative choice.

It depends how you look at it.

Some people (like me) love Garrindan's quirky and very alien vocal style in ANH, other people think the undeniable comedic effect spoils the mood.

Same with Boussh.

There is no reason why Boussh couldn't speak in noises so high pitched that only Threepio and Boussh could hear them so we would only have Threepio's word for it that he actually said anything and that would make no sense to the viewer (or rather the listener).

My personal take is that having a four word vocabulary is justifyable in terms of culture but it might sit better with the audience if it was changed to something that sounds like it has more variety.

NO Joke this is EXACTLY what this scene needs!!!!

I have to confess since they (FINALLY) got rid of the mat lines around the rancor s/he has looked perfect to me

I wouldn't mind seeing blood on the Rancor in that shot, but I dunno about it being green.  Anything to make ROTJ a bit more mature.  And, really, how could it not bleed in that situation?

--edit--

And I'd also like to throw in my two cents and say that I agree with what many have said here - the Rancor scene was perhaps the only thing about the 2004 editions that I prefer over any other version, and beyond color correction, I don't think anything new needs to be done to the scene (minus the blood in the shot above).

It might be a bit extreme but we could drop the door the whole way down and cut his head and hand off (more Jedi related gore).

I think it's fine as it is, the poor beast could have fatal internal injuries with only minor external ones (it seems to have very thick skin) but mockups might help rule one way or the other.

Someone should do a mockup poster in the style of Jaws but with the door a killing poor starving Rancor (DOORS : The Revenge).

I know that ady will remake PT with the OT standards. Still Considering adding one element rather remove other hundred  from a PT episode i suggest this.

I did in purpose Chewie misses many shots because if you look closely he isnt targeting even the right direction. Because of hurry? Anyways i brought the green laser because is only in one or two shots and adds some variety.

I have no intention for one more green laser debate lol

Edit: A quick test of how it can be a little more realistic and blended rather studio like

Added reflection to the glasses, new blur on trooper too. Some tree shadows and I can hope a better sunlight.

Heh, I like it green because any game I've played (Battlefronts 1/2, Dark Forces 2) the crossbow always has green bolts. But that's neither here not there.

Whoa I actually do love that blood, much better then just some lil green comin out of his nose, when I was little I assumed that was mucus, but I guess in Star Wars land it is right? Anyway those Chewie and Scout mockups are amazing as usual also.

Looks great, but I think we may be entering an area where doing these kinds of things in motion may be too difficult.  I'm not sure how hard Angel works on some of these shots, but I'm sure its pretty hard.  And having to do something like this frame by frame would be time consuming and might not look right in the end.

I mean, no one loves Angel's work more than I do, but we have to be careful not to get too excited for something no one's going to be able to replicate in motion.

I'm really a bummer, huh?

I guess it is a wishlist though...

I wondered if sometimes you work so hard to make a great picture that you don't think how hard it would be to do in "real life".  I mean, you could do it frame by frame, but everybody's going to need YOU to do it for them!

Still waiting on this redone opening scene.  Love the DS2 mattes you've made so far!

And I added my bummer sentence back in. ;-)

I could just mark some of them "Impossible" like I did with the "Move all the action to Coruscant." ;-)

"Always with you it can not be done"

The reflections are doable.

The film has forward footage from the biker's point of view, loop it, flip it and you have a reflection element.

Take the same footage and render it as a silhouette and you have a tree shadow element (after a bit of distortion).

It doesn't have to be very accurate as most of the footage doesn't need reflections and those that do are mercifully short (the bikers are also not wearing mirrored lenses so that can hide a lot of kludging).

It's not easy but it's not impossible.

You want doable? HUH?

Thats for SWWR because i have promised to him that i will fix it someday. (thanksgiving day today!)

Dont talk to me with that attitude son!

@Bingo: You know that i love the waterfalls concept. It can be done because these shots are only far shots and can be done with mattes or footage. Like 005 suggested id like to ground the things a bit until its confirmed that a waterfall will be there as well :)

Btw if you notice there are no glasses there. It would be awesome to listen a subtle wind sound or night creatures roaring. If we go to waterfall idea? Bring it on with the waterfall sound :D

i would expect it to bleed when those spikes are attached to the gates.

btw, vaderios, lets not get in another discussion on whether lasers should be green or red.

referring to the pic of chewbacca of course. ;)
