Im preparing a storyboard for the new ROTJ opening. One more grander and more....powerful.
It will include new shots, replaced poor mattes, new paneling and ofc to show the grand scale of the new station.

Ehhhhh, I dunno about the "cat's eyes" for the Rancor. Real ones only shine like that if you're seeing the light hitting them at just the right angle, but it seems like you'd have them lit up the whole time. That could be a bit much, I think. Can start to feel clichéd, too.
Despite what I just said, it is a nice mock-up, though.
Oh, and nicely spotted Taun Taun head! But, as was mentioned, it's probably just there so they could re-use a prop. :p Instead, there's the head of a creature from a planet no one gives a second thought about.
i didn't mind the scene too much, i always laughed at how stupid the dance was. it did give a feel about how jabba would've been a modern day drug dealer or something like that. i guess he would deal death sticks.

That rancor looks worthy of Jurassic Park now. I think I might get the shivers watching it. I hope Ady adds scarier sounds. To me the rancor sounds to distorted.

That looks MUCH better to me - just a simple change of lighting for the setting makes him so much more threatening.

that's the first think i thought of when i saw it. and ur right on the rancor sounds. sounds more like he's gurgling or maybe has something stuck in his throat.

I rather like the cat eyes, as it really helps the eyes stand out. That combined with the enhancement on the body really improves the look and helps keeping it from looking too much like a puppet.
How would the Rancor look if the areas around the teeth were a bit darker or lighter (to give the mouth more of a Great White appearance)? I guess looking at the last shot, the "gum coloring" would have to blend into the regular color of the skin (as the Rancor has no lips).
One thing though: maybe the gamorrian guard in the lower left area of the above pic could be a bit greener to help him stand out better.

On Oola, I must say I didn't mind the extended sequence with her much. The fact that Femi Taylor played the role so long after the original is pretty cool! I could go either way with it. It does make Jabba feel like a pimp punishing his *ahem* lady in the cruelest way possible, and anything to make Jabba meaner is good. On the other hand, it's not entirely necessary. Again, either way.

i don't think the teeth should be a clean white, only because of all the food it eats, so the teeth should look all yellow and decayed. i don't think a rancor knows how to brush its teeth.

i don't think the teeth should be a clean white, only because of all the food it eats, so the teeth should look all yellow and decayed. i don't think a rancor knows how to brush its teeth.
He does have a keeper though, or at least someone to mourn his death...
Those Rancor pics are truly scary. I think it can go from a puppet to something to give kids nightmares again!

The blue lighting from above...the smoke elements...the eyes...everything you've added really helps! Even if Ady could only add the blue lighting...that would help tremendously! Whatever can be done to better blend all the elements together will help! I agree about the part with the rancor picking up Luke...the giant hand doesn't move right...it doesn't have wieght...
I agree about the rancor sounds too...sadly you can't really isolate any of the rancors sounds from the DVD mix....the mix in this scene is absolutely terrible. It just sounds so...muddy.
Oh, this new opening for ROTJ sounds exciting, Angel. Keep us posted!

Ripplin:I'd do something about Boussh's dialogue, too. So lazy and limited. Must be one of those languages where every word has 40 meanings or something.
There's nothing lazy about Boussh's dialogue. I would say it's actually had more thought put into it that the others. It would have been easy to put together some foreign sounding dialect (using some unusual-sounding real Earth language like with the Ewoks) but they decided to have a complex dialect where context and stress is everything.
I think the way Boussh speaks is a very strong creative choice.
