I'm all for people attempting to cut Fett out of ROTJ because if it's enough it's job done, if it isn't it's a building block for the sort of scenerio I was suggesting (either way he needs to go from the Sarlacc fight).

My instincts still tell whisper at me that totally removing Fett is possibly a step too far, for good or ill he has been built up to be more than just a cool looking guy lurking in the background of ESB and totally removing him from ROTJ rather than keeping him in but giving him something to do would come across as sending a large group of fans to bed without supper rather than giving them something better to eat than a pot noodle.

Well personally I would either keep him in the Palace and remove him from the Sarlacc fight altogether, or I'd have Slave 1 taking off and leaving as the journey from the Palace begins, or even flying with the barges to the Pit of Carkoon but not getting involved (and then leaving when it all goes belly up).

I'm for leaving Boba Fett as is, except for the scream.

Or on the sail barge fight, and cutting his death but then using the shot of him taking off later to imply that he escaped as the barge begins to explode.

How about he gets swallowed but blast his way out? (just like the EU explanation) :P

Author

Neither of those permutations get over the basic lack of a role for the guy and what is it with people falling into pits (at least carkoon has a toothy mouth)?

I was joking with my suggestion, just to make it clear :P

He isn't really missed is he?

Though it's niggles that some of the reasons for removing him put around could equally be extended to Dengar and Bossk yet nobody seems to want them removed from the Palace.

Dengar is in the palace?

Without the Boba Fett shots the whole thing feels too fast IMO, not that's its a reason for keeping him in there per say.

I just read the pages in the novel with Boba Fett's death, and he does a little more than in the final movie. He strikes me as more active. Unfortunatly we don't have a line recorded for this but as he's trying to shoot Luke on the skiff he curses at Han "Get out my way you bind fool!" He comes across in those pages as willing to defend Jabba, but really just out for himself.

So that brings up another possibility: Han knocks his rocket pack as in the the original, but he lands on the deck, leaving us to assume he gets blown up with the sail barge. If we had one more shot of him, (anybody know anyone with a movie-accurate Boba Fett suit?) he could get up and discover his rockets don't work.

As promised here is my slightly more conventional Death Pit mockup (not perfect but hopefully you get the general idea).

I've removed the bridges to nowhere and tried to make the central column look more like the lift shaft.

Hopefully more skilled hands could work this into something a bit better (and follow the rules of perspective) :

I really hope the shaft looks like the one in your mock-up Bingo, good job.

Btw I posted a (really bad looking) mock-up of the rebels preparing to attack a star destroyer with their canon (ala. ROTS). There's only one rebel in the pic and I really could have added more. I was wondering if someone could create a better looking mock-up. Would shots like that be workable anyway? I certainly hope so.

If you reduce the light patterns to half and look less repeated it will absolutely look fabulous ;)

Even i suggest a new matte/model for it it can still stands out.

I loved your gun mockup and perhaps you should drop doubleofive a message to see if it could be put on the list because it illustrates the sort of shots that would put a lot of ROTS style epicness into the Battle Of Endor.

He sure is if you watch Dave's video he's looking down the Rancor Pit as Jabba's little platform moves closer to give him a better view.

There's even a Rodian (Beedo) wearing Princess Leia's Hoth vest.

I don't mind those as much as I mind the medical droids at the Rebel Briefing.

Here's the drop shot with just the bridges gone if anyone wants to play with it :

This kind of follows up on Davnes 007's earlier post about brutality in the end battle of ROTJ.

I've thought how cool it would be if we see all these little hints of a conflict(destroyed rusted out AT-AT, stormie helmet on a stick, etc) but then we see these little teddy bears. People would be like "These guys? yeah right." Then, when the battle begins, we seem them becoming rabid little warriors.

Thanks man, I'll do that now :)

These are very rough (over did the sharpen).

Here's one with a distant turning wheel at the bottom for Ridleyesque broken light fans (if you pardon the pun):

Wheel at the bottom

Another rough variant but with the pit ending in darkness and tried for a bit of Trumbullesque light blur with these two, umm didn't quite work but hopefully the idea is gotten across and someone else can give it a go (it might be nice to replace the steam bursts with flame bursts for that Blade Runner techno hell effect):

Those are pretty cool Bingo, I took the liberty to just add some flames and only did some minor adjustments here and there (adjustments that aren't actually noticable, I think).

My flames look bad and I hoped I could have made them bigger, lol.
