I just realised something.

Well i always thought that vader throws the saber and imediately summons it again. ( we have to see it swinging in the air and cutting more metal).

I had point that vader when walking down the stairs he holds the saber and its on(shadow) even the rotoscopers wanted not to show it ignited.

Like i said a good scene is that vader force saber throws and summons in the air. He is vader after all :D

Good Lord! You're right! It's always hard to change things like that especially when they're at different angles (obviously because of the different camera setup shots).

Hi, I'm new to this community but I've been visiting this forum since two years ago, and I just wanted to share some ideas I have about ROTJ:

1st: Make the Death Star leave debris in orbit after the big explosion, even with two or three bigger sections intact, something like what happens to the Moon in The Time Machine:

2nd: In addition to that, replace the fireworks at the celebration with small debris pieces that fall through Endor's atmosphere, burning and making shoot stars. (There is no need to remove the fireworks, but personally I don't like them, a starstorm should cause a similar effect)

I could try to make some mockups, but my skills with Photoshop are largely overwhelmed by other people here, specially by Angel.

And finally I want to thank Adywan for leading this Revisited project, and every person who has contributed for making it possible.

Made a mock-up trying to fix the Force Kick:

Could use a lot of work, but the shot is locked off so it can be done.  I did something else to the picture besides fix the kick and replace the lightsaber, but I can't remember what it was... ;-)

Nice suggestions Ruja, added them to the list!

I kinda did something similar a long time ago.

Although, I didn't replace the saber, or remove a certain person from the shot.

P.S.: The shot isn't really 'locked off'. It moves around a bit.

One of the best things in the time machine was the cliff houses. I think something similar could be done in ROTJ?. Thanks for that picture it helps in many ways. ADD TO THE LIST 005

Here's some scan from the "Worlds of" reference book. It supports the Palpatine death shaft/reactor shaft=Vader's lift shaft idea.

Since Picasa has given me trouble before here, I'm not going to try to embed the images:

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/TO5jewSRc3fI9I3b3b4MNw?feat=directlink

The caption to the reactor shaft says "Open shaft surrounding turbolift yawns like an abyss and leads directly to Death Star's power core, 400 km (250 miles) below"

Although I know this is EU, it would be cool to have a hint of this:

Sorry about the scan quality, that book really is too big to fit on a scanner.

OK, I added the pieces of DS after he posted it, then added the picture.  You like the cliff houses?  for the ewok village?

Yeah they could be in the trees. Or the elven forrest in Lord Of The Rings is cool too.

AngelBlue, I don't care what is written in books like that, it just doesn't make sense for all the reasons that have been discussed before.

In some sense every point on the station some way or another leads the reactor core but Palpatine doesn't and can not die there unless he had some kind of super fast rocket pack and a powerful heat shield hidden under that cape of his, which he decided to activate when he realised he was already doomed to explode near the bottom of the tower (that said it is only marginally more silly than having the death pit there in the first place).

I'm working on a new mockup as we speak to try and correct some of the problems with the old matte but keep the basic idea of a chasm by the side of the lift shaft (but I'd still like to see something a bit more knockout instead).

Time

Agreed Bingo. And what the hell is it with unguarded open shafts in Star Wars?

Author
Time

Whatever the shaft is, we never see him reach the bottom so how deep it is is a moot point...

Author
Time

I didn't mean to imply I agreed with that book on the issue Bingowings, I don't, and I'm glad you're working on a new mockup that actually fits the action on screen

I dunno Darth V. but I'm sure there's an explanation (or several) in the EU ;)

No love for my shrunken Death Star laser operators??

I also suggested more turret action from the Falcon, but that might be covered somewhat already in some of those suggestions.

I liked your mockup video, it makes more sense, although I never had a problem with the original. It should go on the wishlist at least :)

I imagine this has been discussed before, but I haven’t read this first 143 pages of this thread.  Sorry.

It seems to me that Revisiting ROTJ (or the prequels) is fundamentally a very different problem than Revisiting ANH or TESB.

ANH and TESB are pretty solid from a creative point of view.  Of the few really bad creative decisions that were made in those two episodes (Greedo firing first, etc.), most were introduced in the SEs, and can be corrected by making the film more faithful to the original versions.

ROTJ is a different kettle of fish.  There were a lot of bad creative decisions when the film was first made in 1982-83.  Compounding these problems are continuity problems introduced by the prequels.  Correcting these issues poses a very different kind of challenge than Adywan has faced with ANH and TESB; in many cases, I don’t know whether it would even be possible to correct them.

So my question: how is Adywan planning to approach ROTJ?  Is he going to take a similar approach to ANH and TESB, in which most of his work consists of correcting technical errors, improving special effects, and reversing bad decisions introduced in the SEs?  Or will he take an aggressive approach to address PT continuity issues and bad creative decisions in the original film?

I could list a bunch of plot and dialog issues that bother me, and in some cases suggest ways to improve them, but I don’t know whether Adywan’s looking for that kind of input.

Time is running out for the Rebels. Antilles upcourt to Skywalker. He’s being paced by Darth Va— the bone-jarring pick by Solo! He came out of nowhere! Skywalker’s open from way outside, he launches at the buzzer... Good! It’s good! The Rebels win on a sensational buzzer beater by Luke Skywalker! Let’s take another look at that last shot. He just does get it off in time. Wow, what a shot. That’s why they call him Luke Legend.

That may be the most exciting battle I have ever been privileged to broadcast. Certainly the most dramatic finish. We’ll get you an update on the Artoo Detoo injury situation in just a moment. Right now let’s go courtside where SuperShadow is waiting with Chewbacca.

Well what continuity issues with regards to the PT are you referring to in Jedi?

Author
Time

This isn't an exclusively Adywan thread cap and seeing as he is still some way from finishing ESB:R we don't really know for sure what he will do.

If you click on the suggestions list at the bottom of doubleofive's post you will see some of the suggestions that have been ruled out and others that are definately under consideration.

As to the others only time will tell though hopefully somebody will have a go at most of them.

Author
Time

I expect ROTJ:R will be considerably more radical than the first two, but probably less radical than PT:R. Where on that continuum it will fit is uncertain, but Ady has suggested the ending will not be either the OUT version or the SE version but a more fitting finalé to the series. He hinted a while back that he intended to kill off Lando, but that was (we think) a joke.

Here's a few effects shots that have bothered me:

-The Executer bridge tower as Han and Company wait for the code to clear looks too modely

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/bGlIfESK9bY_mP2MXkGH-g?feat=directlink The Death Star could use some work here

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ssziDf6AAP-G6Y0k2LJxAA?feat=directlink

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/q5S9WlqNihZparb5DynE7A?feat=directlink The Death Star looks almost red in some points

-This scoutrooper who's calling for help after knocking over Han is losing his mask, you can even see his face

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/cckaUXkNEjbDGnudOsul1g?feat=directlink

-There's a shimmering effect around the speederbikes as Han watches Luke and Leia take chase (couldn't get it in a screenshot). Might be a brightness issue.

-In the 2004 DVD the laserbolts from the speederbikes are now a very pretty yellow ;)

-The speederbike chase needs some mattelines removed in some shots

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/SnYuhakgZAyGeJoPnT327A?feat=directlink

-During the chase a laserbolt hits a tree but nothing happens.

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Ci4XHJ0yAyfiXPQebOYs4w?feat=directlink

-An explosion from a speederbike that got hit can be seen through the tree that blocks it from the camera momentarily

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/v_qEumw4-X4tfPFlhTNFCQ?feat=directlink

And it even separates from the speederbike after the tree passes! http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/weP4lIQgez5w8E9uNcGz-A?feat=directlink

EDIT: Removed an "error" that wasn't really an error
