I think the problem with Kamino isn't so much that it looks too clean and sterile but that it looks too fake. I know there was a lot of practical work done in the prequels — McGregor was probably on a real set at least most of the time — but it *looks* like freshly-rendered CG and nothing in a movie that's trying to be photorealistic ever should. Anything that could be done to make it look more like a real set is welcome and I think Angel's work is an example of that — albeit an extreme example, as any further in that direction looks too dirty. I suggest that someone who is doing this sort of work view some older films which try to present that sort of environment — ones made before digital grading and enhancements made it possible to look like Kamino — and see the little imperfections and things that mark it out as being a physical set, and try to work them into AOTC. 2001 might be an example of such a film. I haven't seen THX 1138 but from what I can gather it also has some examples — maybe someone else can confirm?
