Hey Ady,

How about you do something similar to Luke's hand. Come on it looks like crap LOL.

Sorry, but the one on the left looks a lot more realistic to me.

You changed the colour from something that looks like real skin to something that looks like it belongs to a corpse...

And why would the inside of Luke's arm need bright blue LEDs and glowing tubes?!

Duh!  In the future, everything has blue LEDs in it.  Cars, PCs, robot hands.... everything!

Ground Effects in my arm FTW!

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Seeing as everyone else seems to be raking the ashes of this discussion here was my take on the accretion disk :

Accretion Disk

I would prefer that the disc be more to the left, but I do like this general concept. The interpretation that it's a new star rather than a galaxy is a much better interpretation IMO because as has been said before, it serves well as symbolism to give the audience hope. If it's doable, I'd like to see it.

Btw Ady did could you consider putting some of the better mockups in your releace as bonus... let's say concept art?

I have not seen any galaxy/"birth of a star" posted in this thread that looks better than what was already in the movie. Just leave it!

The only nitpick I have with the existing robo hand shot is the colouring of the prop forearm doesn't match the pigment of Hamill's real hand.

Author

I've never noticed a problem with the robo-hand.  What is it about it that looks fake to everyone?

Author

The "skin" doesn't look enough like Mark Hamill's skin, it doesn't match, so the prosthetic is too obvious.

You ever have a prostetic limb attached that exactly matches your own skin tone at that moment in time? And Hammil dont have a 'real' hand from that point onwards anywayz.

Dead argument.

Although if you want more modern Terminator 3 SPFX then please continue.

I have to edit. I get a little carried away sometimes. And my spelling is bad aswell.

And sometimes, i do actually want to come across as being a comical dick ;-P

I make me laugh anyhowz.

I love to see the mockups, but just dont hold it as being the new benchmark that we are going to see in the final release, as some followers are going to be seriouslly dissapointed.

Interesting to C what the chosen one makes of this scene....(EDIT) the whole bloody filum actually!

Sometimes folks need to remembur we just need a colour corrected, slightly tweeked for the better SPFX, de-arseified, edition of TESB:R. No?

When the 'skin flap' of  Luke's artificial arm is closed by the Medical Droid, it doesn't line up with the little portion of 'fake arm' underneath the metal 'clamp' that we can  see nearest the robe sleeve. Could this be amended?

And please consider this one too Ady - Could the whole metal 'clamp' section nearest the robe sleeve be actually removed, and replaced with a LONGER robe sleeve nearly up to where the 'flap area' closes over?  This would make it seem that not so much of his arm has been lopped off when compared to where it was actually cut off earlier in the movie, and gets rid of the 'faker-looking' veins on the dummy arm nearest the robe sleeve too....
The immediate following shot afterwards shows the left arm of Luke's robe clearly, to match where the 'seam' on the new robe 'cuff' would be.

I'd forgotten how horrible this is....so in addition to the comments above that I previously made on page 42 (!), there's a couple more I'd like to suggest now that it's been mentioned again -

There are actually two different shots of this 'fake' arm, seperated by a shot of Luke's face.  They are both static shots, but shown at a very slightly different angle to each other.  One shows the thumb, finger and palm being prodded by the Medical Droid, and the other is seen in the screenshot recently posted, where Luke wiggles his fingers about.  A real hand obviously sticks out the end of a none too convincing 'prosthetic arm' which seems to be a slightly different colour compared with the more pinkish real hand.  The thing is, since the WHOLE hand and 'opened up arm' that we see is ALL meant to be 'artificial'....then it's reasonable to assume that it should all be a uniform colour.  The 'veins' that are on the fake arm make the difference in colouring from the real hand more obvious, especially when the ones on the fake 'wrist' nearest the real hand show no movement whatsoever, considering the amount of movements that we see the 'supposedly artificial' hand itself make.   However, that is not the main problem that spoilt these shots for me.

One of the MAIN things that looks bad to me personally are definately the 'veins' seen nearest Luke's robe sleeve.  Especially in the FIRST shot of the 'arm' that we see.  Ideally, I'd like to see them removed, EITHER by making that small section of the 'arm' a uniform 'flesh' colour OR by extending the robe sleeve to cover them up.  My previous suggestion was to perhaps replace the metal 'clamp' with an extended robe sleeve, which would tie in a little better with the fact Luke's hand was only cut off at the WRIST....but even if the robe sleeve was only extended CLOSER to the metal 'clamp', things would look better.

The two other main things that look bad to me, are the fact the 'skin flap' doesn't ALIGN properly with the 'arm' section underneath the metal 'clamp' nearest the robe sleeve when closed, and that the robe sleeve itself doesn't seem to match (in it's 'creases') between the two shots either....

It's these three things that are the worst aspects of the whole fake 'arm' appliance I reckon.  I personally like the actual 'inside workings' fine as they are though!

doubleofive -  perhaps you could stick a comparison of the FIRST 'arm' shot (at any point) along with the SECOND one at a point that shows the 'skin flap' fully flipped back into place for me sometime?  Thanks.

A - Luke's 'New' hand gets poked by a little prick. (The flap on the far side looks crooked)

B - Luke gives his 'New' hand a little test run.

Funny you should mention that, because I was thinking about how the hand would be a lot more convincing if it were a bit "meatier."

I like the idea that there is organic tissue covering the bionic hand, and it makes it a bit more convincing within context to the story, since it provides a believable concept for how the arm can integrate with Luke's body. Perhaps regenerative medicine can't re-create lost bone, but since the Clone Wars the technology is now good enough that they can re-grow tissue to go over bionic limbs. Obviously, the present-day George Lucas would probably shy away from showing a drop of blood, but since that's a non-issue I'd love to see Adywan add in some pseudo-terminator blood like I demonstrated.

Heh, I definitely would not be expecting the arm scene in ESB to be anywhere Terminator in terms of blood-- i think just hinting at a bit of meat around the edges of the skin would be enough to get the message across without going far beyond what one would expect in a PG-rated movie. Also, due to the design of Luke's arm, I don't imagine there'd be blood on the actuators themselves, and since it looks like there's only a thin layer of skin there, as opposed to the Terminator which has muscle tissue over his skeleton as well. However, if Adywan feels like he can manage something meatier than what I demonstrated and still make it look believable, I wouldn't complain.

Davnes007 -  Thanks for putting up that comparison shot and GIF.

I hadn't actually picked up on was the fact that the furthest away 'skin flap' is in different positions between the 2 shots too!  (Suppose it could have be 'knocked backed' by the Medical Droid or Luke during the intervening shot, but still....)

It's going to be interesting to see just how Adywan decides to improve on anything during these shots.

Would it still be possible for someone to also stick up a screenshot of the end of the 2nd shot, showing just how badly aligned the fully-closed 'skin flap' ends up looking with the 'arm'?  Thanks again.
