Sequel Trilogy? Say it's so! — Page 2

GL WROTE OUT THE ENTIRE STORY FOR STAR WARS AND THEN CUT IT INTO EPISODES. MARK HAMMIL WAS THE ONLY ORIGINAL CAST MEMBER TO BE SIGNED TO DO A FORTH SW FILM IF GL WERE TO EVER MAKE THEM. HOWEVER, THAT CONTRACT HAS LONG PAST EXPIRED. IN AN INTERVIEW WITH MH HE SAID THAT HE WOULD BE MUCH OLDER IN THE SEQUEL TAKING ON THE OBIWAN TYPE ROLE HAND OVER THE "TORCH" TO A NEW HERO. I THINK WE HAVE ENOUGH SEQUEL STUFF IN THE EU. WE REALLY DON'T NEED THE SEQUELS ON FILM. THERE IS ALSO A RUMOR THAT GL IS PLANNING A LIVE ACTION TV SERIES BASED 1,000 YEARS BEFORE EP. 1 WHICH WOULD PLACE IT DURING THE SITH WARS. THIS CONCEPT COULD ACTUALLY WORK. AN ONGOING ANIMATED SERIES IS ALSO RUMORED TO BE ON THE HORIZON AS WELL.

Rumours about sequels have also reached Germany. The saying is that Chebacca (Mayhew) has signed a contract for Episode 3 that has some backdoor arrangement (sorry I do not know the correct English for this) so that Mayhew would have to act in sequels also if they will ever be released.

Three causes why I don't believe in this:
1. Chewbacca has died. I don't remeber the books anme but it is in the official SW timeline. and this timeline is already full of events until his death. It would be very difficult to find a gap for a three episodes sequel except they film the Zahn-books.
2. Everybody could play Chewie. You even can make him a CGI (see Monsters Inc.). That he (Mayhew) now appears in Episode III is a bonus for the old fans. If there would be sequels not to many people would care who is the man behind the mask.
3. If there really will be a TV-series about Darth Vader, I can imagine that chewie (Mayhew) will be part of it. Maybe this for is the backdoor arrangement in the contract.

But there are some more rumours. One is that the contract between some publisher of toys etc. has been lengthened til 2012. The question: Why so long if there are no more movies. Films sell toys.

Additionally Mark Hamill has stated that he can imagine to play a part in at least one of the sequels. any hint ? Or just something an ex-actor said who would like to be back on the big screen.

In contrast to some other people here I would like to have sequels. Someone said: Sequels suck. But TESB didn't suck. Aliens didn't suck. There is still a chance episode 7,8,9 wouldn't suck. Especially if there is an other director. (Steven Spielberg's name was mentioned a few times). To be honest: I have no fear the prequels could suck more than the sequels.

So let's lean back and wait for the things to come. Let's hope for the OTs on DVD, Special Editions of the Prequels that are better than the originals and for the prequels. "Nothing is written." (Peter O'Toole, Lawrence of Arabia)

Happens in the first book of the New Jedi Order entitled Vector Prime. Just FYI. But this is something like 25 years after ROTJ in the timeline. Plenty of time in between that some halfassed storyline could fill up. I still hope it doesn't happen.

Thanks for the info, Bossk. To tell the truth I'm not to well informed about the current timeline of Star Wars stories. But when I had my last close look at it (about three years ago I would say) it looked pretty crowded. But of course, you are right. It will be possible to find three free weeks in which three episodes could happen.

It is most definitely very crowded. There is no question about it. And I've always wondered how much energy these guys could possibly have to keep going that far into the future. I would assume that Han's age at the time of ROTJ is supposed to be about 35 Earth years. Plus another 25 for the NJO. We're talking that he's pulling Jack Nicholson's age and screaming his way through an asteroid field with his good old reflexes not hampered at all by age.

You have to take into account that people from different planets seem to age differently in the SW universe. Have a look at Princess Amidala. She didn't age a year between Ep. 1 and 2. Maybe it is similar with Han. It is defintively similar with Leia and Luke as Amidala is their mother.

Good point. No wonder long-term relationships in the SW Universe seem so few and far between. One mate dies well before the other even ages a bit.

I like the idea of a sequel trilogy, but I don't like the idea of Lucas making them. I know it will never happen, but here's a thought, how about Peter Jackson doing them? How do you all think that would turn out?

star wars taking place in midddle earth does not sound good

I didn't say it should take place on Middle Earth! I just think Star Wars would be better off in someone elses hands because I think that Lucas has cracked. Besides, which trilogy is better the LORs or the prequels?

I'm glad GL is not making a sequel trilogy, there would be no point the story is over.

However there is a guy at the tf.n fanfilm forum who is making an animated sequeal trilogy, should prove interesting.

I hate what he did with the OT, but I like the prequels. It'd be up to him as to if the ST is ever made.

If it's what he wanted all along, I say go for it.

BUT DON'T TRY TO DENY THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS IN THE PROCESS, D*MMIT!!!

Now I'm confused, you like the PT but not the OT???

That has to be a first.

GL's ideas for a sequel trilogy got put into ROTJ so making one would be pointless (the emperor was not going to appear until episode9)

but any time fans take on huge undertakings like this my interest is peaked and I'll be curious to see the results.

I can agree with that except that I would say...

PT - decent idea with potential to be good to great idea if Lucas would let his actors act.

Oh, and bump up the O-OT to "spectacular friggin' idea that shouldn't be screwed with" and you're aces.
