When I had one of my seagate drives die in the 3 year warranty period, they offered me 2 things, one a replacement upgrade, which I did, and 2 a data transfer to the new drive (which they said would be 100 bucks, this was about 2 years ago), which I didnt do....I was able to salvage 95% of the contents by throwing the HD in the freezer for a few hours and then booting it one last time and using total commander to rip all the stuff off....but some of the disc was damaged so I couldnt get that other 5%, wasnt important anyway
