I believe Alien appendix project is intended for video footage only. If there is an interest for CD-Rom compilation of printed promo materials and news articles a new thread should be opened so this one stays on track...

A few years ago UK's Channel 5 had a TV special "Greatest ever scary movies" with a video segment on Alien that topped#the list. Does anyone has that show (or any other in the series for that matter)? http://www2.five.tv/programmes/greatestevermovies/countdown/?list=2

My first thought was why wouldn't you want to includes scans of such material in a ROM folder on the DVD, as well as present them as a "bonus" selection on the DVD's menu.  A press kit is more than just memorabilia from a film, it is an essential piece of the history of the film itself.  Then I thought, "ah, right, this is Aliens Archive that is now being discussed" as AA#3 was released some time back.  But now I realize that tb1971 is referring to the first film with mention of that list.

All this leads me to ask 2 questions:

1. Is the current project in fact AA#4 (collecting material from the sequels), or is more stuff from the original trying to be gathered?

2. If AA#4 is the current project, shouldn't it have it's own thread?

1. Yes - we're on AA4 now, which is very much centred on Aliens (with a section for Alien War).

2. Yes, probably! I'll just get the last few pieces together and then start a new thread announcing what to expect.

Regarding stills material, I agree that scan of interesting material would be worthwhile additions in a ROM folder, space permitting. Menu screens and slideshows are very labour-intensive (and frequently don't do justice to the quality/resolution of the source) so I'm less keen on that approach.

I'm going to send a few PMs to see what final bits and pieces we can gather up before 'locking' the compilation!

That's a wonderful find and an exceptional documentary! Should we add any new Alien related clips (if there are any new available) to this doc and label it as an appendix #4?

Looks damn good to me,and I totally LOVE the fact you did not use black as your base, way to many covers made here are way to draining of the black ink LOL.

Hey, Ash.  Can you tell me if the native format of the documentary is NTSC or PAL?  I read the first few pages of the discussion thread at Alien Experience and didn't come up with the answer.  I noticed the link you provided above was to the NTSC *.iso file, and your artwork says "NTSC".  Maybe those provide the answer?

I think it is a NTSC project but I am not sure since it is a Uk project. Check the forum on alienexperience, there may be the answer.

Like Ash says, it's a UK project so I'd be amazed if it wasn't shot on PAL (or 25 frame HD).

Of course, the NTSC torrent was the first I found so I downloaded that one. Duh!

I read through a bunch of the AXP forum thread for the Alien Makers documentary, but still didn't find out whether PAL or NTSC is the original format.  Am waiting for my forum registration to go through so I can post the question there for the filmmaker.

In my thread-reading (@ alienexperience.com) I did find that both PAL and NTSC ISO image parts are at megaupload.

Okay, now is the time to list our footage individually so we can start figuring out who's got what and start making arrangements. Please confine your listings to the video footage only. This is what I have:

ALIENS:
- TV spot for Aliens (TV1000, 1 min). Advertised as the winner of 2 academy awards and it has graphics that mimic Aliens logo
- TV spot for Aliens (DirectTV, 30 seconds). With Sigourney filmed to match powerloader scene.
- Greatest ever 80's movies: Aliens #4 (Channel 5, 3 min). With new M. Biehn interview.
- Aliens: ride at the speed of fright - pre-ride & ride films (8 min)
- Alien war - 4 promo ads & newsreports: beyond 2000, hrt, bbc news (18 min)

Has anyone finished this collection? I'm looking for a high quality copy of the Beyond 2000 Alien War segment. The copy I have is from really poor VHS and is missing part of the intro.

Thanks!

Rook, take a look at the Alien Appendix #4 thread.  In the content listing, it just says "Alien War featurettes".  You'll have to ask Jonno over there for specifics.

Heard back from Dennis Lowe (the filmmaker).  PAL is the native format of Alien Makers, as suspected.  The AXP forum lists the downloadable parts as provided by the filmmaker, both PAL and NTSC.  Be careful, though.  Both NTSC and PAL ISO parts are presently listed as "PAL ISO Part...".  But the headings for each list are correct.
