Petition LucasArts against the release of the Force Unleashed Sith Edition!

Author
Time
As you might already know, LucasArts is releasing two expansions to the Force Unleashed. One will be DLC available to all current owners of the Force Unleashed. The other will be made part of a full priced repackage (The so-called Sith Edition) of the Force Unleashed and all other content. The press release has indicated that the 2nd expansion will not be available as DLC, but only by purchasing this new version.

Even if you are not a fan or owner of the Force Unleashed, but are a fan of JUSTICE, you should sign this petition.

http://www.petitiononline.com/swis1166/petition.html

I am not the petition creator, but I was thinking about starting one when I found this one.
I suggest that disgruntled gamers not only promise to not buy either the DLC or the Sith Edition, but to give the game a 1-star rating on Amazon.com and other sales sites to express our supreme disgust at being treated this way by LucasArts.

Thanks!

How about the fact that the Wii version is totally getting the shaft. No DLC, no retail Sith Edition.

As a Wii owner, that bugs me a lot more than LucasLand's typical double-dipping.

I have both the Wii edition and the 360 version.  The Wii is not only not getting the DLC and stuff, it's pretty much a completely different game.  It does have the duel mode, however.

I've been waiting forever for this PC release which they said would never happen, so I don't have much sympathy for console owners who have been able to play the game since last year. I'm a long time Star Wars PC gamer and followed all the news about the Force Unleashed since it was first announced and they went out of their way to say there wasn't going to be a PC release. I'm sick of PC gamers getting the shaft, waiting an extra year for a release and getting, sloppy second-hand ports with clumsy console interfaces.

xhonzi, I've always heard that the Wii version is different. Are you saying that's why the Wii is being excluded? Too much work?

So as a Wii owner I'm so low on the radar that LucasLand doesn't even consider double-dipping me. Wow, it's like I'm a fan of the OT or something ;)

neebis, I feel your pain in that department. I'm sad to say I gave up hope for PC gaming several years ago. But man, I had some good times while it lasted (X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast...)

I had heard that the Wii version was different, but then I was surprised to see just how different it was.  Imagine the design for the gameplay was done, but then two companies actually executed it.  I haven't finished the Wii game, but I haven't seen any parts of the level that are too close to the 360 version.  It's much more "linear" in the sense that there are more hallways and less turning around or even side to side.  I think that's to accomodate that the Wii controls didn't provide a way to turn the camera very well.

So, yeah, that plus the fact that very few games on the Wii get DLC (I assume for technical as well as financial considerations) I think that's why the Force Unleashed hasn't gotten additional content like the 360 and the PS3.

neebis, did you know that they are releasing a PC version this fall sometime?  It'll be the Sith Edition with all of the extra content.

The PlayStation 2 version is also very quite different. Still much the same gameplay, but different level layouts. I have played both the 360 and the PS2 versions, and I actually enjoyed the PS2 version quite a lot more. Like the Wii, the PS2 doesn't get any extras either. I think this is fair, in reality, they are very different games, and even made by different teams if I am not mistaken (the PS2 version was not made by the same people who made the 360 and PS3 versions, I think this was the same case with the Wii), so it stands to reason that the Wii doesn't get the extras. The Wii isn't really the console to get if you are interested in playing mainstream games anyway, if you buy a Wii, it is for the Wiiness.

While I am all for games being rereleased to include their expansions packs (things like the Oblivion GOTY edition and the upcoming Fallout 3 GOTY edition and other rereleased are really a fantastic value, the only people who could really complain about stuff like that are the ones who bought the DLC early and felt ripped off, but that is just the way it works with everything, consoles, games, movies, BD players, computers, Mp3 players, etc.). Since the Ultimate Sith edition of TFU (love that abbreviatation!) only has a SRP of $39.99, ten dollars more than the original TFU's SRP, and it contains $20 dollars worth of DLC + the extra level that is exclusive to the USE, which would have likely been another $10, if it were downloadable, making it closer to $30 worth of extras with this edition.

I guess the major complaint is that the final level wont be offered separate from the USE, forcing people to buy the whole thing, rather than simply blow $10/800 MS points on the thing. THAT is pretty rotten, essentially telling customers who have payed full price for the game and previous DLC that they need to buy it all over again, granted at a reduced price, if they want this one extra level. Meanwhile, the casual consumer who has yet to spend a penny on the thing sees the USE for forty bucks and gets the whole package at a great deal. It does feel like punishment for loyalty. But seriously? Did you really expect anything less from something with the name "Star Wars" stamped on it?

I have always had the PC along side my consoles. Back in the days of Nintendo and SEGA, PC definitely sported more impressive games. But I think we have reached the point where consoles have become so powerful, that it is hard for the PC to keep up. Obviously you can get a computer that is far more powerful than the PS3 or the 360, but to get it to play the same games as those consoles, it is going to need to be something above your $400 dollar range base model PC. Compare that with a $200 dollar 360 or a $400 dollar PS3. Being a 360 owner, I know that any game scheduled to be released for the 360 is going to work for my console. Back when I mostly played games on the PC, I was frequently disappointed when I'd realize a game wasn't going to work on my system, other times the game would work on my system, but only after turning down all the settings to meet the minimum requirements, resulting in the game looking like absolute crap. Also I had to worry about hard drive space, had to take the time to install the game, and uninstall the game when I wasn't going to need it for a while, install it again if sometime down the road I get the itch to revisit it a bit.

Meanwhile, in console land, take the game out of the box, pop it in the console, and a few seconds later your playing it. Consoles are just that much easier, you can't really blame the average person whose 2 or 3 year old computer is more than adequate for work/school/communication for wanting to drop a few hundred on a console that will be good for several years of hassle free gaming rather than upgrading to a shiny new PC just to play the latest and greatest games. And consequently, you can't blame game companies for diverting their focus to the larger group of customers.

Why don't you just not play it. Hell that was my solution to hating the prequels I just don't watch them.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Hmm, I think you missed the point of the discussion EyeShotFirst.

The problem isn't that they dislike the game and wish it wasn't being rereleased, the problem is that they already bought and own the game and the rerelease has exclusive extra levels on it that can only be obtained via this new edition, which means they don't get to play it unless they shed another $40 dollars on top of what they already paid for the original and its DLC. The decent thing for LucasArts to have done would have been to release the extra level as DLC and allow those who already gave them their money for the game to pay a little extra for the new DLC (which is the norm) rather than making them repurchase just for the one level.

So just not playing it wouldn't help, since playing it is exactly what they want to do. This would be more like a PT fan really wanting to buy ROTS on DVD, but LFL only offering it in an exclusive boxed set containing TPM and AOTC as well, meaning to own ROTS you'd have to buy the first two all over again.

Yes thanks I know, that's why I posted. I can't sign a petition against them finally releasing a PC version. Console owners are lucky to be complaining about not getting one expansion, when I still can't even play the original game yet...

Well, maybe I'm not a serious gamer or just old fashioned, but I just like playing on PC (mouse+keyboard) much better than on consoles. I like playing open ended longer games (RPGs, space sims, FPS, etc.), with all sorts of community mods and add ons. I like multiplayer with (keyboard) text chat (voice can get on my nerves) and more networking options on PC. I don't like console controllers and I don't sit in front of my TV to game.

It's really not that I couldn't afford to buy a console. When I play consoles at friends and relatives, always think to myself "this would be much better on PC" (with PC controls). I also don't like consoles being stuck in a hardware cycle. When the current gen came out, they were obviously more bang for the buck compared to a gaming PC. Now, a few years into the cycle when they finally have a decent catalog of games available, the hardware is holding them back compared to a mid-range gaming PC. It's like that every generation. And for the price of a PC or upgrades, you're obviously also getting a multi-use/general-purpose computer. For me, consoles just seem to be about control, they take hardware and limit it's functionality for purely marketing reasons, then they go after people who try to open it up.

Anyway, I know PC gaming is a lost cause and by now I'm used to waiting forever for console leftovers, but the one thing that really ticks me off is companies who promote games as "console only" for years, then turn around and offer a PC version after they've sold as many console copies as they can. And they expect PC gamers take it on the chin every time and buy the outdated games for full price and like it. So far, there's only been one game that was "console only" that I've been interested in that hasn't eventually been announced for PC...it happens every time. I understand the marketing, but it's the same BS every time and if you follow the game market for more than a year or two it's so obvious that the PR guys are lying about lack of PC releases. It's a complete lack of respect for their customers.

I admit you can't beat a console for drop-n-play, but I haven't run into any major hurdles getting PC games to run, except once with buggy DRM...and that's a whole other can of  worms.

FWIW, I heard that the previous head of LucasArts when The Force Unleashed was originally released was extremely pro-console and anti-PC. Supposedly, there is a new person in charge now with more respect for PC gaming. This person is supposed to be behind the PC release of Force Unleased as well as release of some LucasArts classics for PC on Steam.

I meant to say earlier that the petition site does NOT require any kind of registration to sign.  I know I've gone to sign online petitions before and decided not to because they wanted me to create an account.

Not so on this site.

Thanks!

Well you know neebis the new Republic Heroes game is going to be simultaneously released on consoles and PC, right? Anyway, I would sign the petition if I thought it would make any kind of a difference. I couldn't believe they'd pull that crap when I read the announcement.

Yes, I guess that may have to do with the recent change in leadership I mentioned. Although I actually do enjoy the show, the Republic Heroes trailer didn't get me too excited, unlike when I first started hearing about Force Unleashed. I'll have to see more and read some reviews before considering it.

They just unvieled the trailer the other day for the hoth level.

I personally find this entire thing stupid this super villain type character who could have come out of a bad marvel or dc comic but not the real star wars universe as it once existed.

Seriously Starkiller was the proptotpe of both anakin and luke anakin starkiller, luke starkiller.

And now this character that never existed before the game force unleashed gets to kill obi wan kenobi and kill or capture luke skywalker, in pure infinities style, lame.

Force Unleashed sucked and was overhyped.  Probably the last in house lucasarts game too.

Now that  travelers tales, and bioware are making new games for them amongst other companies.

The Old Republic will be awesome for those who like mmo, but not for me.  I will get Mass Effect 2 in January of 2010, since they won't make a real Kotor III I'm out, I'm done with them Lucasharts guys.  i won't be getting lego indy 2 either its based on that bad fourth indiana jones film.
