Sorry Ash. Forgot i vandelised your workz. I just did that to fit in with MY spanning spine set of the films so they flow. I was going to make these as spanning set aswell (using the opening shot of the planet from Alien), until i got wind of a possible AA5. ;-)

Review:

Just got a few beers and my copy of this in the player. Its made me a happy man. The visual quality is medicore as to be expected with how rare the content is. But its just reminded me why i class Aliens as one of my all time faves. I missed out on the hype as i was only breaking into my teens, and this looked like a scary horror film so i sort of bypassed the hype. But if i saw any of those early trailers today, i would chuck out a chestbuster i think.

I have never seen a so much in depth view of Camerons early work till now. I thought his wife is a moose (comment below the belt, but thats what i thought). And to think Signore Weaver could of bypassed Aliens so early in her carrear.

Yep, then it comes to the featurettes.

Been to London twice in this lifetime. How did i miss out on Alien War as opposed to viewing the national artwork gallery!

I love the fact not to much was given away.

Is Alien War still going in the westend? Are there any more now(gonna check the web after i've done this), as i had no idea of the concept of the attraction (thought it was some cheap cash in of the film name). Now im going to have to plan a journey with this one purpose, hopefully.

Slightly less excited about Ride at the Speed of Fright as i imagine its one of 'Super Ex Pro Com' simulator rides, like i went on in Disneyland Paris (and Blackpool seafront on a sking thing and a virtual rollercoaster), which are over-enigneered, overpriced, and un-convincing. But the footage is absolutly awesome (to go with DVD's of Star Tours, Terminator, and now this). Better than Star Tours, not as good as the T2 thing.

DVD authoring is always important when trying to make this sort of thing a class above bootlegs, and damn Jonno, i hope you do a lot more stuff on here (i had no idea about the original nistromo design until i popped in disk). I think if it could have been shot it would have looked better than the military style ship we know of (i heard something about that ship being a mod of the pulse rife, but i dont know if thats true).

I got two (edit: three) things new out of viewing this in my life time. I missed out on those awesome trailers. James Cameron is even more of a (risk taking) genius than i ever thought he is. And i need to lobby some friends (or sod it i'll go it alone), for a trip to London very soon.

I just wish i could have added anythin to be in the credits page ;-)

Sean, send a PM with contact details. But send me a PM to say you got it (as that really narcs me when posters request something, then cant be arsed to say THAN-Q to the sender, or the maker. No more DVDs for those who do that there after).

It's posting to the newsgroups - alt.binaries.dvd & alt.binaries.dvd.midnightmovies

Nzbs crossposted to alt.binaries.nzb. Yes - 2 nzbs. Yeah, I know,  it was late, quit laughing. Com'on, it ain't that funny. :-) Obviously, the first one will only work with the files which have the mispelled (sp) subject line. The second is good for the rest. Might be simpler to go to binsearch.info.

The first par hasn't propagated to Easynews, for some reason. The rest are intact so far. I'm keeping an eyebrow raised at them.

I haven't got very far, yet, ([as] Saturday anime), but Alien Wars looks a blast. :-D

Thanks for all the reviews, guys (both here and privately) - great to know it's being enjoyed.

And thanks to Cassius and Jaiman for getting it out there! Infuriating that DVD-sized projects are still cumbersome things to move around (I still find it easiest just to send physical copies), so newsgrouping is a godsend for those in the know. Torrents too, I guess (though it seems to have disappeared from Demonoid just now?)

Well, if anyone does want to get involved in the next one (and get their name in the credits ;-) ) please contact tb1971, who's pulling together the materials for Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection discs. You can expect a much brisker turnaround this time (*ahem*)...

Still on Demonoid with plenty of seeders.  Just did a check to make sure.. :-)

On the fanedit.org AA04 page, it says #4 is a preservation of several featurettes about ALIEN and ALIENS.  Looking at the list of material on this one, is there really anything of substance from ALIEN?  Thanks.

Nothing at all - discs 1-3 were Alien-themed, this is all about the Aliens.

Who actually does the write-ups on there?

I'm compiling the footage for Alien Appendix #5+6 DVDs and will post the list soon. In the meantime I've found an ultra rare item which would be a crown of the new Appendix disc. It's available to US only, so someone from the USA has to get this fantastic item and share it for Appendix disc! I've contacted the seller about shipping to Europe but he hasn't replied yet

This is the very rare audio visual press kit for the film "Aliens," on 3/4 inch tape. Originally released by 20th Century Fox in 1986 and sent to televsion studios and other media to promote the film. This is an amazing piece of footage, and while this cannot be viewed on standard equipement, I can transfer it to dvd for you.
Contents include: Original trailer, cast and crew intereviews and alot of rare behind the scenes footage!
Complete running time is nearly 50 minutes.

Because the "I can transfer it to dvd for you" comes from the seller's description and not tb1971, i thought it was important to get clarification.  So i sent the seller the following: for "ALIENS 1986 Video Press Kit", are you selling the actual 3/4 inch tape or a dvd transfer of this?  Thanks.

I have a friend who works at a transfer house and could get this done.  Or TB, would you be able to transfer it yourself?  Also, are you interested if it is simply a dvd transfer of this guy's own doing?

It seems to me that the seller sells 3/4 tape but offers a DVD copy as well. Personally I can do transfers for PAL betacam tapes, but not NTSC for any tape format, so someone in the US must do it (at least forseller's  shipping reasons). I believe all of us are interested in getting this rare footage in any form, especially a direct transfer to DVD. I think it'd be wise for someone in US to buy the tape immediately before it's sold. I can help split the cost (via paypal).

Well, i'm skeptical.  Just to test it, i put a quantity of 5 in my "cart" and proceeded through the checkout process just short of placing my order.  The system was about to happily charge me for 5 of these "items" and associated shipping.

I understand your eagerness to get a hold of this rarity, but i have policy with online independent sellers: if they don't respond to a question i pose to them, there is no way i will purchase their wares -- no matter how tempting.

My guess is that the price shown is for a DVD copy, and he regularly sells these.  Who knows if he really has that 3/4" tape anymore, or if he got a copy off the tape from a friend/acquaintance.  I suppose the follow-up to my initial query will be to see if he can send me a photo of the tape.

If this is the real deal, i'll buy it and have my friend do the transfer, then send you the DVD, TB.  But if this is just a DVD copy of uncertain transfer lineage, the most i would put in $5.  it would take 5 others to join me to cover shipping, and we would agree to send the disc to the AA team.

I have an online buying policy of my own - never buy from someone who uses the word 'alot'  ;-)

Anyway, I'm in full agreement with Auximenies. If it's just a copy it probably isn't worth 25 USD (at least, not without proven content and quality). And if it IS the original (and as rare as the guy is implying) wouldn't he be selling it for a lot more than that?

This kind of profiteering just pisses me off - sure, if you have a unique item, you can sell it for as much as you like. But producing endless (intrinsically worthless) copies and flogging them at a steep price to collectors is just money-grubbing opportunism.

Shame, cos this is still potentially good stuff... we just need to know more about it than this guy is saying.

I finally got a reply from the seller (see below) and I'll just go and buy the copy myself to be included on Appendix disc. I agree with all said, but it's still the fact that I've never come across this footage and would love to get hold of it. Sure it's opportunistic, but it's also unreleased and rare footage. It's much more convenient to all of us fans that many DVD copies of it float around, than one single buyer has it and it never sees the light of day. I have more problem with real production companies that withold such promotional materials and overcharge for their mass produced DVDs/Blu-rays anyhow (with the real authors getting only worthless percentage, if any).

"Sorry for the late reply!  I haven't had a chance to check my emails.  I never actually expected that anyone would want the 3/4 tape since they would need to go find a place to do the transfer anyway so I never included it in the price.  It was always for the dvd.  If you pay the full price plus shipping you'll get a dvd with a custom interactive menu."

I've checked Alien Saga DVD before contacting seller. It seems like it has only a couple of featuretes that might or might not be on EPK, but b-roll footage or soundbites (which could be about 30 minutes in length) weren't released anywhere in unedited form.
