I really do want to read that book! I didn't realise I'd gotten so far out of the loop.

I know all about working at night and then spoiling the day, it's a habit I've thankfully just about gotten out of. Can I ask what it is you're working on?

Don't worry about typos; the only one I really noticed was, ironically, "typo's". :-)

Hope you get something out of your nap. Being tired sucks.

These are a little more on topic I hope...

I love those McQuarrie Health Spas and Tibana Mines.

Great Shots!!!

I prefer the yellow balloons, they add a pop art character to the shot.

I see your your work here along the topics and im impressed! I hope ady will use some in not all of your mattes :)

im glad im back :)

Nice to see you back Angel.

We could do with some of your mockup skills over on the Wishlist thread (all over the place actually).

Yeah, I'm a big fan of those health spas, but McQuarrie did the tibana gas mines too, and I like them. I'm a bit of a Bespinphile, like many of us.

As for Adywan, I don't think he's one to use other people's work, no matter if it's good or not. I'd certainly be happy to let him, but I don't think he'd want to.

You can read some great articles from the book on the official website, right here.

Sure. As I said I'm trying to do some screenwriting. My love for movies and the art of cinema has led me to many places (including here) and I really hope that I can do something in the industry. I know it's wishful thinking and an impossible thing to do. But one must start somewhere right?

Originally I was far more interested in telling the story (directing) than coming up with it (screenwriting) and I never thought I would've had so much fun doing this. Don't get me wrong, the process of writing is not an easy one. When I'm tired - like I am now - it's impossible to put something of some value on paper. I'm very demanding of myself so when I come up with something I have to really really like it before I even consider putting it into my draft.

I've found someone who expressed interest in one of my projects, so I wrote down a treatment for him. But the problem I keep facing is, that when I get into writing the final product it always differs from my treatment. For example, I'm writing an action comedy, which quickly turned into a mind bender action comedy with some horror in it. I was quite pleased with what I wrote, and showed it some of my friends. They loved the hell out of it, but of course, there is not much interest in these types of movies, since they don't appeal to a very large audience. It's just that I don't want to sacrifice good story telling for ... money. To quote Simon Pegg: "Studio's will always encourage you to write something that appeals to everyone, but if you do that you'll quickly learn that you usually end up with something that appeals to no one." I think he said it in one of the interview for Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz (brilliant stuff btw!)

Since I'm also not a native English speaker (as you probably already noticed, from Belgium) I have to really watch out for grammatical errors. I was afraid that writing dialogue would be hard, but that seems to be my strength. Which of course, is a good thing. If my dialogue descriptions suck no one will notice in the final product, right?

Anyway, to make a long story short. I'm currently working on a SW fan film. Quite ambitious. I wrote down a story, I'm working on the fourth and last draft now. I had plans to shoot this summer, but due to problems with our shooting location this was delayed. Which is a pitty, since we planned on releasing a teaser trailer today.

But anyway, I'm really happy with the story. It's set ten years before PM, and although not meant as a retcon explains a lot of things that weren't explained in the prequels and it originated as a simple story idea but quickly turned into an attempt to not only give more depth to the prequels but ultimately update the definition of fan film and as an attempt to show Georgey that there is still hope for SW.

The technical and monetary aspect will be the most challenging, although I don't think money will be much of a problem. And technically I know exactly how to do it. The shooting that is. I've been working for a long time on acheiving the 35mm look in After FX, spent time deciding on which camera to use, etc... It will be challenging, though. I'm also planning to introduce well known characters, such as Yoda (I know, CG, it's a shame but a puppet will be much harder) Mace and some others. I was afraid that this wouldn't be possible, but after seeing what Zbrush artists and riggers could pull off today I think I won't have to alter my screenplay after all. (I write without restrain, if I come up with something good I don't care if it cannot be done, it's the only way to get to a good story, just let go and write) I think actually the result will be quite awesome, ultimately because of the talented people I'll be working with. Although I'm searching for a lot more help for post production. But since we still have to shoot everything that'll still be a while.

And it just occured to me that I'm totally going off topic... Damn. So sorry! Venal, if you want to talk , just PM me, okay? You seem like a very talented guy and it's always nice to discuss ideas with a creative mind.

Oh, and the reason why I had to work so much is because I'm doing some animated storyboards for one of my actors and I'm figuring out which cut of the scene I'm going to use... But again, this is REALLY off topic.

Don't worry about typos; the only one I really noticed was, ironically, "typo's". :-)

ROFL. Silly me.

Hope you get something out of your nap. Being tired sucks.

Agreed. But I was afraid that I wouldn't get to taking a nap and... since it's thirty years since the teaser for Empire was released I did get some "rest" by watching some of the movie. Great stuff... great stuff...

I really need to go feed the cat now... I hope I answered some of your questions.

Ady: Is there any possible way to make this new shot

Match the darker aura from this shot?

I always figured there was something wrong with that new CGI shot and after ruling out the Falcon I just lately realized that the lighting is way too bright and doesn't really match other shots (for example: The Falcon is now much brighter and everything is in a different shade of orange).

^the coloring and brightness always bugged me with the Cloud City SE CG shots.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are all that terrible either but did it not occur to one single person that worked on those shots what they actually should have looked like, maybe just throw in a suggestion?

More contrast is basically needed on the shots where the Falcon approaches the landing deck.

- Anyway, a little off topic, but still TESB related - I re-watched TESB today (with the audio commentary) and I forgot how amazingly funny Irvin Kershner was on it, especially when he calls C3PO a 'stupid robot' for interupting Han and Leia's kiss. :D Then I watched the TESB theatrical trailer, since today marks it's 30th Anniversary, and I couldn't recognise Harrison Ford's voice through his 30s style narration, though there is a moment in Blade Runner where he almost talks like that. :)

Here's a new music video I've made btw - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UriqmLVvoEA

Hardy har har har har. Im a plank sometimes, but, thats just moi. :-)

Aint that the lightsabre battles with some funky remix thrown in?

Not sure where to go with that one.....

Good work (i guess) :-)

Did you get upto speed with the deleted scences? As that is gem in Empire if it was included in the SEs (a few more scenes after 3PO did that...........and before that, think to montion it???? Motion it, i ment mention it, would have just about made it for me).

Wish we could have had the directors cut of Empire, even if it did look shitty (it could be a hell of a lot worse).

ADDITIONAL NOTE: the whole cloud city approach has become a horrible hybrid of SE additions to me now. Ady, just make it look nice.

So hit Me!

No, you actually should hit me, as me to get me back to real life.......and crud.

(and for those who dont get-it/understand/give a crap.....its just the old .....British humour).

I try!

I thought the arrival of falcon was at the morning.

and the whole matter evolves during the day and finaly the leave at afternoon.

Any ways, we see the falcon landing with orange sky ,but, we notice to the next shot when the heroes are inside the sky out side(through window) is bright as hell. so? very fast time pacing?

I was 50% correct.Shit im getting old. in the SE the fix the window with the correct exterior BUT the light reflections are too strong/hard for this time period. Plus the light is coming from the opposite position that the room is filled with light.

I know ady put a lot of efford to add more life to the MF mattes but its still orange.

I dont want to change it (ffs) just messing how he will or already solve that light issue. Maybe some hidden lighting or instead of revealing window and closed window?

If you notice that oval mirror thing above the window there, the original pre SE window elements are reflected in it. (Watch the NON SE footage you'll see what I mean easier.) There are several of those round windows that weren't changed though, some also in the dining room later, and they pass some in other scenes, some are half circled and are easy to miss if you are watching close.

That looks amazing. I was thinking more contrast needed to be applied , but what you've done here is better than I'd have imagined it to be :)

Also, nice touch with that slight lens flare.

That morning matte really is lovely. It actually makes the city part look more city-like than ever. I think I'll have a got at a daytime matte now, I've been inspired!

You got anything else I can see?

Impressive. Most impressive.

Great work as always, Vaderios! Nice to have you back. Although I'm kinda new here, I've seen a lot of your great work here on the forums.

Now you can clearly see in the bottom one that the sun is behind the clouds and to the left. Now the next shot below follows directly from this one (and the bottom one precedes the last shot above).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Wow, the sun has magically moved 180 degrees. Now they fly straight into the city and the sun is once again more behind them and not in front like the last 2 shots

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Actually, the sun moves TWICE - if you look at the 3rd image (of the Cloud Car outside the Falcon cockpit), the sun is behind the Cloud Car, putting the sun on the right side of Cloud City.  In the 6th shot, the sun is on the left side of Cloud City, and then in the SE CGI shot, it is in front of Cloud City.  WHEW!  That sun is a movin'!

Assuming that falcon making cyrcles without knowing where the cloud city is? maybe.

Its not an excuse but i like the cloud car have blue lasers (no kidding) :P

That looks very nice indeed. I like the clolour correction, or rather alteration in this case, and the blue laser works great against your new sky.

As for the position of the sun, the Falcon is pretty much heading in the same direction, save the odd artistic flourish to send it through a nearby cloud etc. I still disagree with Adywan's argument that the sun is in the same position except in the two shots where it is behind Cloud City. The backlit clouds are inconsistent, and really, backlighting for me doesn't take precedence over the shots where the sun is actually visible.

As for the SE shots of the Falcon flying through the city, who's to say which side of the city Platform 327 is on? This thing is circular, so there is no proof of which side the sun should be in those shots.

well its pretty logical that the falcon wouldn't fly towards the city, then when it reaches the buildings does a 360o turn so that the sun is in the position it shows in the approach shot, then does another 90o turn as it reaches the platform. That makes no sense whatsoever.
