Permission to shout BRAVO at an annoyingly loud volume, sir? :p

Although... what changes?

I'm also intrigued. And I really hope that Adywan does do a commentary track, it would be ace :)

Sorry, I'm still in shock.  I'm trying to compile a complete list of changes to what will be V1 (what does that make the XVID then, or the DVD5?!) and not a day has gone by since I posted it that I haven't found at least one thing I missed or never noticed.

I can't think of what you would change.  Unless you'd be changing things BACK (spinning starfield, anybody?)

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Ady admit sometime back that the electo-needle didn't turn out as good as he hoped?

That is the only real bugbear for me.

The only other change I'd make would be possibly impossible :

Forgive the roughness of these mock-ups but (and I appreciate how difficult it will be) the helmets of the Rebel pilots need more than just an insignia colour change.

Ady recognised this when he changed the insignia from blue to red but the clean helmet squadron don't appear in the battle so it's still kind of odd that get such prominant screen time.

Adywan, why not do a commentary track with someone else, so you'd find explaining things easier? One-handed commentaries often lack spontaneity because the person is just monologuing.

Maybe next year, after ESB:R is finished, i may do a V2 of ANH:R with a few very minor changes with a commentary track.

Oh WOW....Star Wars:Revisited:REVISITED!

Okay, even though that's just a maybe, seeing as I just missed out on finding out about ANH:R in time to contribute any ideas for it the first time round....I hope to get a chance to mention a couple of little extra touches / missed possible 'fixes' for consideration this time round.

doubleofive -  I have a couple of things in mind for a 'mock-up' of the 'Torture Droid' that Adywan wasn't 100% happy with the first time around, if you'd be willing to help me with that sometime....

Now I give you permission to ruin ANHR for me like you always threatened.  If there's a chance to fix it, bring it on!

I would love that.  Didn't get into the credits the first time around, time to earn my keep! ;-)

Good man doubleofive!  :)  No rush, but I'll be in touch with the details for that sometime.

This is another day that will be long remembered....

The only thing I'd change/fix is that audio problem at the Lars dinner table, when Luke says "I uh...also thinking about our agreement." It seems like that cut/transistion in the middle of his sentence drowned out or removed the word 'was.' Even adding an 's' sound in there would help smooth it out a lot, I think.

This is one change I mentioned too late to Darth Editous as well. :p

That's a really good idea - some of the best professional commentaries are basically just focused conversations, and flow really nicely because there's someone else there to continually provoke comment and discussion.

With this project being a somewhat one-man operation it might be hard to include an actual collaborator, but someone sufficiently well-versed in the alternate versions would be ideal for asking the right questions...

Lol, I wouldn't wish to do that in any way for anyone.  The things I have in mind are just subtle bits and pieces anyway that wouldn't detract from anyone's appreciation of ANH:R at all I'm sure.  Although I haven't contributed to the 'after Adywan' thread in any meaningful way previously, nor even read most of it, I know that nothing can spoil this amazing edit for me as it stands overall now.  It still impresses every time I get to see it.

So I'll catch up with that thread fully sometime, to see if anyone happened to mention any of the stuff I've got in mind, or not.

The thread was still quite young when it got rather hijacked by Janskeet's thoughts of the day but it's starting to spring back into life.

Hopefully it will turn into something a bit more useful.

It was intended to be a general ANH ideas thread like the Prequel Redux and ESB/ROTJ Wishlist threads.

O.o ANH:R V2?  Really?  Well, the only things that I would change from the current version would be the following:

- No torture-droid-zapper-thing
- Take out "We've stopped!" (Threepio) and "There's no one here!" (stormtrooper) lines added to the 2004 SE
- Take out the floating droid in the alley-search scene in Mos Eisley
- I'd say restore the desert-search-dewback scene to the one shot it originally was, but I know from experience how fucking hard this would be to do
- No Emperor's theme in the Death Star conference (not that big a deal to me, though)
- NO "RING" IN THE ALDERAAN EXPLOSION! (big one for me)
- Make Vader turn on his lightsaber before Ben does (Jedi = self defense), and use the ESB/ROTJ sound for Vader's saber ignition
- No music during Ben/Vader duel
- Original timing during Ben's death (the added slow-mo screws up the music a bit)
- Restore final shot of Tarkin before Death Star explodes

I'm 99% sure that's everything I would change.  I mean, obviously I'm changing more in my edit, but that's because it's more of an "ultra-purist" version than anything else.

Fair enough.  I've got my own edit for all that stuff - I just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

ChainsawAsh, hate to disappoint you but everything on the list, apart from maybe #1, will not be changed for the v2 release

Good that was the only thing that kinda bugged me.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I'd love to hear all your insights, but if you don't want to do a commentary, why not type up a detailed breakdown of your changes and reasons behind them - all the stuff you'd say in a commentary without having to do one. A time-coded style breakdown, for all us nerds to show our kids why professional film-makers don't always know best...

The only thing I would suggest for a ANH:R 2 would be to remove the Trade Federation Droid head from the Jawa Sandcrawler.  It was cute, but not really necessary.  Also, it boggles the mind.  We haven't seen the Seperatist army anywhere on Tatooine, and Jawas are not known for traveling off of Tattooine.

Thats the main reason i'm not keen on doing a commentary. I just wouldn't know what to talk about most of the time. I'm more of a visual than a word type of guy.

Even if this does happen it will only be as a NTSC DVD-5 as i don't see the need to download another huge version again for just a few very minor alterations.

The one change that would be happening would be re-adding the spinning starfield. Things have changed with what i planned with ESB:R when doing ANH:R and the spinning starfield needs to return

And i won't be removing the trade federation droid.

You got it! Can't say I'd be too keen on doing one myself, either.

Did you have a chance to see my test shots for the Alderaan destruction? I'd love to get an expert opinion. Honesty is appreciated, I'm a big boy, I can handle it. *eek*

Cool, what are you working on at the moment? You sure must put in some man hours. I take it the wife is still in control of the TV remote?

:-)

By the way, I rewatched ANH:R and I've got to say the one touch that I just love more than anything is when the droids escape in the pod and you've made the Star Destroyer recede faster than the starfield. It captures the great height and descent perfectly.
