STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW — Page 493

This is a thread about ESB:R there is a bit of wiggle room in any thread for jokes and asides and if and when Mr Ghostface makes a comment it makes sense to respond to him.

It is also understandable that people will defend Adywan's diligence (even if they have constructive criticisms to make) in threads dedicated to his projects.

I'm sure if Mr Ghostface produced a project to a similar standard people would do the same on a related thread.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ady does with the Leia's room continuity issue now that he has said it's back on the to do list.

Well, rescuing my post by getting back on topic in the denouement, sort of, I forgot to tell you all that I once worked at the UK's (now second) largest costume company and they had some original Star Wars costumes. If only I'd stayed in touch with them... I'd have borrowed it all and shot some new stuff. Damn.

Was it Angel's you worked at?

I have a few problems with them and their so-called "original" Star Wars costumes.

Hi,

No, it wasn't Angel's. The costumes I had were still tagged and labelled, and clearly very old, and that was in the mid-'90s. The main warehouse was just amazing, I've never seen anything quite like it, just a cavernous space absolutely packed to the rafters with costumes. Some of them were languishing in a terrible state because there just wasn't the money to preserve them properly, which is very sad.

Sadly this is the case with much of what survived the productions from hand props to sets to costumes and helmets.Much has been lost and much has just been in the hands of people who knew little about their preservation or didn't care.

One of my favourite stories is one of the R2 domes from TPM was found a couple of years ago being used as a hanging basket for flowers in a crew members garden.

Seriously.

lol

Anyway sorry to derail Ady's thread.Welcome aboard DV.

I had a cool visual idea, what do you guys think? maybe Ady will like it. Hoth, after the battle, a scene that shows the transports getting out.

We see one transport already in space, we see a couple near Luke's X-Wing and at the end we see MF leaving the empty hangar with Vader just gazing at his Epic Failure, how about a scene in that hangar but all the people rushing out? with the ships departing....

Let the turbolasers roarr hehehe

After being unavoidably away from here for a while (not jail!) , I've a little catching up to do.  While some are no longer here thanks to turning to the dark side it seems (!), there are also some new faces around.  Hello to those.

Something that I previously intended to bring up has been mentioned recently - the 'floating' element shown above.  I didn't realise that it was supposed to be a 'floating health spa' (!), and I hadn't seen that Ralph McQuarrie artwork of it before either, that Bingowings linked to.  Thanks for that.

Anyway, although I happen to really like this additional SE shot of the Falcon interior and crew (perhaps someone can put the WHOLE screenshot up? -  it seems to be a re-use of one just a little earlier in the approach to Bespin City), I personally always found this 'floating' element in the top left-hand side a HUGE distraction in the overall shot, as the eye is drawn away from everything else....including the more interesting subtle 'Cloud-car' elements that are going on.  Also, it is not seen in any of the subsequent background shots of the City whatsoever.

While I have nothing against the actual element itself, I would have preferred if it had been used in a different shot, rather than making that one so distractingly 'busy'.  Just my own 2 cents on that.

If Adywan keeps the shot as it stands, at least I now know what that 'floating' object actually is!  :)

And quite right too!  (now about this proposed little draw for a certain 'work in progress', lol...)

Just a reminder to everyone that there's about one month from today for anyone to be in with a chance to get hold of what would be a highly-prized, extra-special 'extra' indeed...the current 'Empire:Revisited' workprint!!  (see page 490 for recent details of how)

Good luck to whoever gets it... as there's already been pure gold done on it so far in the way of enhancements!

If I could, I would donate as much as I could to the project, but I actually wouldn't really want to see the workprint of ESB:R. I'd like to be wowed by the finished project, with nothing but the trailer released to go on.

Plus I'm not very good at reporting what needs to be done here and there anyway.

I know that we are all gonna be in for a ride of our lives. I would be just fine if all the film was just what we saw in the trailer but Ady is doing more than just that. The trailer was neat. It was like going to the theater and seeing the previews for a movie that makes you say IM GONNA SEE THAT.

A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. Wow that sucks, you'd think because it was Harry Potter the opposite would be true and they'd throw heaps of money at you.

Oh no. Anyone who thinks working on big productions will get you big money needs to think again. No-one does this work at any junior crew level for the money. I was also at Leavesden when they did Phantom Menace, and trust me, everybody got paid very badly then, too.

Hmm, makes you wonder where that $200 million goes when making these things... >:)

Well the producers have to have something to stuff their mattresses with.

^^ I guess the most simple way to go about that is simply push it back into the distance so it is less prominent. The "less is more idea".

Ady may have already replaced this shot altogether with something even better though.

The Return of Imperial Fighter...hahaha much awaited. "Jump down someone's throat" or some "turbolaser firing" is business as usual hehe.

Having looked at that shot in motion again, I guess it's not a biggie in any way.  It's just something that always seems to overwhelming distract me from everything else that is going on in that brief shot, due to the fact it has a slightly 'rising upwards' movement.

That's certainly an interesting idea you've proposed, but now that I know it was actually an original Ralph McQuarrie element anyway, I've decided it's not going to bug me so much in the future anymore.

doubleofive -  many thanks for sticking those comparison shots up!  :)

Thanks for posting those screens, doubleofive. I've been wanting to see how it looked in the full shot. I have to admit I like the floating health spa. I think it looks great in the above shot. I never knew what it was supposed to be, but I do like the way it just "hangs" there like that. Being that it was originally in Mcquarrie's concept art, I hope Ady will leave it alone. I don't like a lot of the new changes Lucas did just for kicks, but I like this since it came right out of the old concept art. And it does make Cloud City look even that much more interesting.

Hey guys.

This is a sequence composite of my new and hopefully improved Alderaan destruction for my own Star Wars edit. The keen-eyed will know that I've borrowed the shockwave around the planet from Star Trek Generations. I could create my own, but it wouldn't look any better and it would take a very long time.

Hope you like it. Any suggestions welcome.

DV.

(PS Thanks to my buddy Mr Ghostface for uploading it)

Looks great, Venal.

But this is the wrong thread.

(and your Death Star is pointing in the wrong direction)

Author
Time

Yeah, wrong thread, but... uh.... that looks AMAZING!  Any chance we could see it in motion?

Author
Time

I definitely like the SE shot better, as it actually shows Cloud City instead of blank and dull clouds. I hope Ady keeps this shot.

Very, very nice mockup, Darth Venal. I do think that the Death Star should point lower, though. Can you post a video clip of this?

Author
Time

I hope that the ESB:R version of the shot and those similar are a little less uniform in their peach tones, I know it ties in with the general ambience of the light when they finally land but surely the interior lighting would create a bit more variety in the tones inside the Falcon.

I've taken the liberty of copying Darth Venal's post over to the After Ady thread so it can be commented on without taking this thread off topic.
