Perhaps it would work better if we saw the Jedi entering the system before the Arena battle began leaving the lead up free to follow with the anticipation building up in the background (keeping the audience thinking "Mace where are you?").

Hey SSWR, there is a 2002 videogame released for XBox, Gamecube and PlayStation 2 named SW: The Clone Wars and it features some CG scenes that you may find useful, I think... Check the trailer here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUqfOEfNMCI

And also some extra dialogue too, like...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Tcsj52ETvE&feature=related

Mace says, "Luminara, we need to find a safe place to land... Obi-Wan and Anakin do not have much time left" - that's not Samuel L. Jackson but sounds very close to the original voice!

Hope you find it useful.

hey SSWR!

great video, some fantastic bits there. i especially liked the ROTJ style entrance there too. some of the edits worked so well and subtley that i had to watch some of AOTC to figure them out! i like the idea of mace jumping from the crowd. i have barely begun my version by comparison, so i think i may have to borrow a few small elements.;)

the only thing i was unsure of was having the goons enter whilst anakin and padme kiss. i think that scene of them needs to be kept seperate from the arena in order to still allow for the grand opening in contrast. perhaps they could enter first?

the jedi starfighters were neat, it must have taken ages! i think though ideally we would see hints of mysterious robed characters amongst a multi-racial crowd, as if the jedi were there all along, mace's head would throw off his cloak and jump in, and the surprise elemnt of 'oh, they were jedi' would be there perhaps?

either way, i love it! well done!:D

as for the clone wars clip, perhaps it would be good if we built up a character soundbank?

Good idea. Someone who is proficient in audio editing would have to set some standards though, to ensure that every clip that's posted is usable.

kenobeat, thanks for the links! I don't personally plan on using video game cut scenes for an edit...but for an animatic...that's not a terrible idea... :D

And dialogue....I like the idea...but, IMHO, that didn't sound much like Sam Jackson...of course, if I ever did a full blown edit I would replace Sams line with another voice actor entirely! ;)

Thanks man! Yes, feel free to use any ideas!

I see what you're saying. It was just an idea...not sure if it worked. I liked the idea of cutting back and forth to their future doom.

You might also notice they don't actually kiss. ;)

It did take a while to put that shot together! :D

I like your idea of seeing the robed figures....hmmm...if I could figure out how to pull that off...  ;)

Brilliant work, SSWR. I'd reduce Padme's dialogue even further — none of the truly deeply stuff, it was badly delivered and I think just "I love you" does fine.

I missed Mace's "This party's over", but I think (short of inserting a "motherfucker" after it :-p) cutting it was the right decision.

I have to say, my favourite part was the music — you clearly know what you're doing, the main theme seems to have become Anakin's theme, and it and the fanfare theme is woefully underused in the PT.

 Thanks for the feedback!

I'll look at cutting the rest of Padmes dialogue. I'm not sure...I understand what you're saying...but something else I try to consider is the pacing of the edit...if I cut too much dialogue these scenes fly by so quickly and no one can follow it. :D

"This party's over." Pretty much always got on my nerves...I can see how some might feel that it's kind of OT sounding...but I just don't like Sam's delivery.

I agree on the music...why didn't Johny Williams use more of the original themes?

To me, it's nothing more than a tired action movie cliché, so I was glad to see it go. Forced-feeling catchphrases are a big reason why I won't/haven't watched a movie like "Independance Day."

It might be funny to do a spoof version of the conference with jelly, cakes, balloons and little paper hats, thus justifying the "this party is over" line.

Hey, you're pretty good with the mockups. Let's see them with party hats on. :p Maybe some confetti falling, a few banners...

m m m m mandalore! :D :D :D

even though the clone wars series is just a cartoon, and had a HORRIBLE opening pilot film thingy, the series for me is much closer to the swashbuckling feel of the OT than the PT.

does anyone know when the dvd for season 1 comes out? ive still got plans to forge something from it.:P

Awesome :)

It's out on November 3rd btw - http://www.dvdtown.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars---complete-season-one-dvd--blu-ray-nov-3/6833

I like the Clone Wars series. Some of it is lame, but overall pretty entertaining.

The guy who plays Obi Wan does a perfect Ewan McGregor so if anybody needs extra lines The Clone Wars series has a plethora of lines.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

You think? Seems like the weakest link of the main voice cast, to me. The intonation may be right for the most part, but he gets Southern English (Guinness's accent which McGregor is reproducing in the prequels) pronunciations wrong all over the place.

Meh. McGregor didn't do a perfect job either — compare his "hello there" to Guinness'.

True, but at least (with the exception of his slips into Scottish with his "You were the chosen one" speech) he nailed an English accent, which is more than James Arnold Taylor does in Clone Wars.

Most of those shots are a little to washed out.

For my taste at least.

Overall definitely better than the orange tint.

Hey ben! I've just watched the video.

First the nitpicky stuff:

Well, there is obviously some work to do sound-wise. Especially in the last part the voices are a bit low and not too well blended with the new background sounds and musical score.

The colors are overall much of an improvement, but seem to be - as previously said - a bit washed out. But overall I really like the style you want to achieve with this, it does it job, just could use some little tweaks.

The good stuff:

I REALLY liked the video. It lacks technically a little, but it's obviously still a work in progress... So overall it's good stuff. The scene in which Padme confesses her love to Anakin is an improvement upon the original and the new music works much better.

When they ride into the arena the new music and editing seemed to add a new tension that was lacking from the original and added some new weight to the scene.

Consensus:

Great concept, great execution! Good job, bro. Altogether I'd rather get rid of the whole scene but that's virtually impossible... But you improved A LOT on it and I might even start to like it now ... :p

Who's the more foolish... the fool who makes or the fool who buys this crap?

I like the colour work; nice job, BD.

On the subject of the dialogue I wonder if it would be blasphemy to lift an "I know" from somewhere? As it stands, that line would sound creepy, but if we tone down the rest of Ani's creepiness it might work. If it doesn't, I think leaving it at "I love you" works best.
