Ah, but think of it this way: putting his son before himself like that is an act of selflessness ("not for him, but for his son") which in fact causes Anakin to become the good man that - presuming the PT to be true - he never really was.

Just a thought. Personally, I'd probably never watch an edit that incorporated PT footage into OT footage like that, but if you were to do an edit like that, this could be one "spin" to put on it: a non-redemptive motive results in a redemptive act of selflessness.
