Just to clarify...Ady's clip IS my clip.  The other clip is from an earlier version.

Did you have any notes, lists of work to do and how you might do it? Might be food for someone else.

^^Yes, I left detailed instructions on how to open the files and what needed to be done to finish it.

It's a lot of technical work, with some creativity in the audio in sections I hadn't finished.  Like I said, I think the main headache has been mixing my own voice, which makes me think that my voice is just too different from Hayden's to be believable.  No matter how it's mixed, or by whom (me, Ady, or Paul), there are always a few scenes that just don't seem to work.

At this point I am almost ready to just put Hayden's voice back, but that would screw up the scenes where I changed the dialogue, and it would make Darth Vader a whiny wuss again, which is the main reason I did this edit...to avoid that.

Honestly, I personally think a lot of it is because we know that's not Hayden's voice and it takes you out of it... I think after you watch it a few times you adjust to the new tone. What parts weren't working for you?

Trooperman did you do the voice on that clip I think you put out a long long time ago. It was a noir film version of ROTS. I have it on my old computer.I believe it is dialogue from the book and its scene where the suite is put on.

I think that voice would match with Hayden pretty well.

Let me know if I need to upload it to jog your memory. It's probably two years old. haha.

Oh....you know what, I remember that.  I think I lost the clip, though.  Would you mind reuploading?

When I get back from vacation I'll go through my contacts and find out who did that.  It wasn't me.  But he was good.

"Honestly, I personally think a lot of it is because we know that's not Hayden's voice and it takes you out of it... I think after you watch it a few times you adjust to the new tone."

That's what a lot of people say.  But just as many people say it isn't any good.  Look just on the last page, someone didn't like it.  I think that it shouldn't be something you have to condition yourself to like after playing it over and over again.  If it doesn't feel right initially, or at least 5 or 10 minutes in, it's a problem.

So I think we need a voice between mine and Hayden's, and I think the guy from Darth Richard's clip fit the bill.

Trooperman,

Since the project has hit another snag, having some more eyes look at it might lead to someone else being inspired to finish it.

So I think you should release the movie in its current form to those who want to see it. Probably via email and PM.

A public, publicized release might not be a good idea since it's unfinished. And that would lead to all kind of joe-schmoes coming in here with unwarranted criticism.

Having followed this project for so long, I would personally like to see what all the fuss is about ;)

Hi Erik.  You really have been following this from early stages.  For those who don't know Erik designed the logo, hosted scripts and an FAQ on his website, and contributed a lot to developing this.

I think that's a good idea.  I have the 2007-2008 rough cut in DVD form.  The dub is particularly bad in this version, but I think it's a good plan to send it out to more people.

But, I don't really want my dub appearing all over the internet and people making fun of it as if it's a finished product.  I might try and watermark it as "UNFINISHED" on the top so that that doesn't happen.

Make it timecoded or something, like the timecoded X0 capture that leaked - everyone knows that's definitely not finished.

That's a good idea, along with a splash screen at the beginning explaining it's only a rough version.  Thanks for the video, Darth Richard.  That voice really is good.

Good idea, and if you show it to people who you trust, hopefully they wont spread it around the interwebs. *raises hand*

I'm still not convinced your dub can't work Trooperman.
I don't like the voice in the rots clip to be honest, and I don't think yours is inferior.

But there are problems in the mix. The clip Ady posted is probably the best mixed of the clips i have seen of that scene. The voice is already more integrated than the early clips. I believe 100% that the 'sound' of the voice can be fixed with a bit more work. Of course I haven't seen the entire thing, so I don't know if there are places where the dub doesn't fit, 'acting wise'. For example I have an early clip of the garage conversation that doesn't quite work because you are talking somewhat quietly and Hayden looks like he's shouting. But I think you redid some lines right?
There also seem to be sync issues, but they're most likely fixable.

Then there's the club music, personally I don't really like it, but other than that it doesn't sit as well as it could in the mix if it's supposed to be ambient music, needs some aggressive eq'ing.

If you like, I wouldn't mind trying to do the audio mix for a scene. I do a lot of sound editing/mixing, usually with music though.

If it's a choice between seeing a rough unfinished version and not seeing it at all, I would definitely like to see the current state of it.  It just seems like too much has gone into it to go to waste completely.  And I'll say, for the record, that I've always been a fan of Trooperman's dubbing and think it sounds good.

I remember seeing that the JarJar voice needed to be re-recorded.  I am available to take another crack at it if desired.

I want to send it out as-is.  If nothing else it'll make good conversation.  But, you'd lose the impact of seeing it finished, assuming that ever happens.

I like the idea of sending out a time coded version. I, like many others, have followed this from the beginning, and spent a great deal of time being really, really, really excited about this. I kid you not when I say I felt much more excitement and anticipation about seeing your edit than I did about seeing either AOTC or ROTS for the first time in the theater. I was really looking forward to this for a very long time. I read your ideas, and saw your clips, and you had me completely sold on this thing.

To be completely honest, I had pretty much accepted the fact that I will never get to see this long ago, and disappointingly put it out of my mind. Yet, every several months I'd still find myself visiting the SW fanedit section and searching this thread just to see if anything new had come up.

Getting to see this in rough form with a time code would be absolutely brilliant. You'd really make my year. I am sure if it was something you had been looking forward to for a long time, and you had the choice of getting to see a rough cut or nothing, you'd jump at a chance to see the rough cut. Words cannot describe how thrilled I'd be to get to see this even in rough form.

You mentioned others getting to see the rough version and liking it, so obviously there is quite a lot there to like.

And as for these guys complaining about the voice not being the right voice, hang it. It is jarring at first, because it isn't Hayden's voice. But that change was the whole essence of your edit. That is the fanedit I have been dying to see for years. I heard the voice, and I liked it. Don't let this kind of criticism get you down. I remember a few years ago a very respected member of this community, who is actually professional who works in the film industry, came in here and outright denounced your edit as a failure, and urged you to target your creativity and good ideas at something else. It is wonderful he felt that way, but the fact remains, even as he typed those words, you had many eager followers who had seen all the same clips he had, and who still couldn't wait to see this edit. It may never be completed, but it will certainly never be a failure. You've put up with this kind of criticism since the very first page, yet you didn't let it get you down, and you went on to make what absolutely could have been one of the most amazing fan edits ever made. If you didn't let it get you down then, don't let it get you down now.

Ambition doesn't always lead to success. Sure, you didn't finish this. You aimed really high, and found you couldn't quite reach your goal. Don't let this bother you. This project isn't that important, and you seem to have done a good job prioritizing with putting school first. You did the right thing. Even though you couldn't finish what you started, you have (or have the potential to if you release it in some form) shown what can be done. You have laid a foundation, and who knows what inspiration this may insight in others.

Finished or not. To me it is a real shame for this to remain unseen. I would encourage you to time code the thing, and slap a notice on the beginning stating that it is an unfinished product due to the fact that it was more work than you could handle at that time in your life, and that you wanted to share what you have done even in its incomplete form, rather than just let it collect dust. Sure, there will be people who will watch it and criticize it to pieces. Screw them! That is just part of putting your creativity in front of others. Some will love it, some will hate it. It is like that with everything. You poured your heart into this. You took a truly awful film, and tried to turn it into something good. Life got in the way, you did what you had to do. Let those who complain about your work show us what amazing projects they have done. Even if they have done any, I highly doubt they could show us anything half as ambitious or as interesting as yours.

Since i can't word those sentiments better, I'll simply echo them. Even in a rough state this thing would be very interesting to see.

Touche, I want to see it badly, even in it's current form. And that was very nice C3px, my words exactly.

It would certainly be a good illustration of what is possible for people trying their own redux's of the PT.

Here is that video for anyone interested.

That was excellent... It actually lends ideas to plot... It almost has an Incredible Hulk feel where it's Anakin trying to beat down the monster inside, not knowing it is inside of him. Nice.

So true!

It adds so much to the scene and it made me think of things I had never considered before like how awful it must be to not be in control of something as simple as breathing.

He really is locked into a walking tomb.

The music is good but I do keep expecting someone to break into a rendition of MacArthur Park (though I'm not sure if that is a bad thing "Oh Nooooooooooooooooooo!").

It's really nice to hear from you, C3Px.  You too, hairy_hen.  We would love another dub from you.  The general feeling from Paul was that the voice worked, but the quality of the recording itself was not up to the rest of it.

Well, my mind is made up.  See you in a week or two.

P.S. I will be checking my PMs for mailing addresses in the next couple weeks;)
