Obi-Wan must appear to kill Anakin on Mustafar, or at least leave him to die. Vader should then show up in his suit and attack the Temple

Do it Pulp Fiction style and have the chronology of events obscured, only to be truly revealed in RotJ.  Lol!
Seriously though, I like this idea (yours Rinon, not mine); making Anakin's defeat a mid-film climax rather than end-film.

EyeShotFirst said:

Just not Anikan becoming Vader. When Anikan is burning in the fires of Mustafar let him close his eyes then have an establishing shot with sad music and take it from there.

I was just thinking about doing something similar:  After Obi-Wan dismembers Anakin, do not show any movement in his torso.  Make him look limp and lifeless to imply he is dead.  Then, still not moving, the immolation begins and seals the deal.  Even though we all know he isn't dead, to a newcomer it should seem very convincing.

EDIT:
It would also lend more credibility to Obi-Wan's decision to not finish him off, which doesn't make much sense in RotS when "Lord Vader" is still so obviously alive.  And I don't believe that Obi-Wan did that because he couldn't bear to bring himself to once again attack his "brother."  He's a Jedi Master and should have been able to recognize that Anakin isn't Anakin anymore.  If anything, he should have been compelled to finish him off so that his "brother" wouldn't suffer such a horrible death.  Yet another example of something that was done merely because it has to lead into the OT and not because it makes sense for the films' characters to do.

EyeShotFirst said:

It won't be hard to pull off neither. We just need someone who has a vader suit.

Just be sure that you get someone with a suit that has an appropriate looking headpiece.  I notice that, all too often, even the best of Darth Vader costumes have a mask that looks wrong when compared to the films.  The mouth area breathing apparatus seems to protrude to far.

RoccondilRinon said:

The other thing I'm thinking is, if we use Ringo's suggestion, I'd still like to see the immolation and the Vader-suiting-up, in a ROTJ edit as flashbacks to complement Obi's exposition.

This is similar to what I plan on doing with my RotJ mock-up.

I really like these ideas. However the question of "a pupil of mine, until he turned to evil" still remains. What can be done about this?

50MB split screen

I would have uploaded this to YouTube but this time I also applied a sharpening filter (with moderate settings, I hope), since it was bugging me to see that the whole movie was just blurry for no reason. It's a 2500kbps MP4, that way you'll be able to notice the sharpening and the details.

Wow, ya its alot sharper, good job. Some things look a little to undersaturated but it looks way better.

The person your searching for simply does not exist

When Anikan is burning in the fires of Mustafar

I really don't think this should be shown, or even needs to be shown. And if  keeping Vader's true identity a secret is the goal then keeping this simply makes the task harder.

I'd prefer an uncertain end to the duel - for obiwan and for the audience. If Anakin were to simply vanish over the lava fall with the collector arm it would mean we wouldn't have to suffer through the terrible dialogue of the rest of the fight and the truly horrifying scene of Obiwan standing there watching him burn. Cue sad music and move on.

And switching things around so the Jedi Temple raids [with a suited VADER] happen AFTER the big Mustafar duel might be a lot more interesting.

Oh, and regarding Palpatine on Mustafar - could it be implied that this is merely Darth Sidious - Presented thus far as a seperate entity to the good chancellor?

what if we could play on owens line 'he died about the same time as your father'

perhaps we never see either of them return from the fight. ben's reveal in ANH could allow the audience to begin questioning all the information that luke is told. perhaps even cutting his birth could allow us to question his relation to anakin until obi wan explains.

when do  we first hear the name 'skywalker', sounds silly, but how long could a really ignorant audience go on thinking he is luke *smith* until he announces he is infact a skywalker.

Hmmm...I really like that idea...I don't know how doable it is simply because of all the other scenes that happen after the fight contain Obi-wan...BUT we ARE talking about radical edits here...  :D

Major resturcting would have to take place in the over all timeline...when is the Jedi temple raided? when does the mustafar duel take place? when do we see Vader? when are the baby/babies born?

Is this the same split screen you posted earlier?  I have satellite internet with a low download speed and a bandwidth cap, so I'd rather not download this if I don't have to.  I hate to ignore someone's hard work, but do you think I'd be alright without seeing it?

I sense great potential in this idea.

The more I talk about RotS with people, the more I get the feeling that we are indeed talking about a "radical" edit.

But then you'd have a sort of glottal stop between the two or it would all run together as Lukenobi.

Your palpatine colour correction makes it more convincing that his ROTJ state was caused by aging and living off of his dark side powers. Way to go.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Yes, that was a nice touch in AotC, but it's all for nothing when you see RotS's young and shiny Palpatine...

^Bah, that stinks. Sorry to hear it. :( I did make a comment in your own thread, too. (especially since you said some of it was ready back in...January?)

Yeah, the first episode was done. I was working on DVD menu's and of course the storybook edition which I felt was going to be interesting for some to see. But yeah, it crashed, and I lost it all. Once my passion for kicks back in, I'll have another go at it... Unless Info and TJ take another stab at it.

Do you still have the hard drive?  You might be able to recover the information using Knoppix.

I like these... Subtle, but very much improved... Why does it seem that Yoda has more detail in his face? Did you add detail?

It's a Linux based operating system that you burn to and boot from a CD.  Once it's up and running you should be able to navigate just the way you would if you were running Windows (I don't know if it works with Mac hard drives.  I've never tried it.)  There are a few minor, quirky differences though, mainly in the functionality of right and left clicks, but nothing that you can't get used to very quickly.  You could just click and drag everything to an external hard drive.

It would be a long rotoscoping task, but I think adding a pale tint to Palpatine skin (like in AOTC) could be done.
