Had my eye on the Special Collection, especially since it was a fresh transfer (back then) without any noise reduction. You need some unearthly equipment to get something nice out of it tho, the "V8" team spoke of a noisy image and haloing. The first is in part due to the simple compromise design of the player for very long lasting use, overbuilt but not in a videophile way. One common powersupply for the entire unit etc. Also no broadcast grade Tbc correction. The second is bnc - rca impedance mismatch, and the simple wiring to the bnc connectors on the player. Thats the way it is for bulk production unfortunately.
