Just dreaming of what could have been... plus this thread is in the need of mockups since vaderios has exams. :D

Sweet. I wonder what the first screenplay would have been like.

I actually read the first screenplay (don't ask me how I got it).  And according to which, Luke surrenders to General Veers, who had been ordered to bring Luke to Vader's Star Destroyer.  Grand Moff Jerjerrod makes contact with the shuttle's captain and  tells Veers that Luke is to be brought before the Emperor on Had Abbadon, the capital of the Galatic Empire (which we now know as Coruscant) instead, but Veers refuses this order.  On the Star Destroyer, Luke once again confronts Vader, and Vader once again asks his son to join in.  Grand Moff Jerjerrod interupts in a furious manner at Vader for disobeying his orders to bring Luke to the Emperor.  In responce, Vader grabs Jerjerrod by the neck, chokes and kills him (very much like he did to Captain Antilles in ANH).

Then Vader was to escort Luke to Had Abbadon and bring him before the Emperor in his throne room, which was so far down in the planet that it was in a cave surrounded by lava.  Vader is being held back by two of the gaurds while the Emperor tries to seduce Luke to the Dark Side.  Obi-Wan and Yoda appear both in spirit form and threaten the Emperor with the notion that Luke's power is greater than his.  When Vader does come into scene, the Emperor orders him to destroy Luke.   Luke uses the Force to take his father's lightsaber since his was already conficated.  The Emperor gives Vader a lightsaber that he had hid up his sleeve, and the duel takes place.

In the end, Vader looses his hand either from it being burned off in lava or Luke cutting it off.  Vader begs Luke to kills him, but Luke refuses and gives his father his lightsaber back.  The Emperor again orders Vader to kill Luke, but Vader refuses and claims that he cannot bring himself to do it.  The Emperor fires Sith Lightning at Luke, who deflects it with his hand.  Each time Luke deflects the Emperor's lightning, images of Obi-Wan and Yoda appear and the exact moment of impact.  The bolts become more intense as Luke is forced to his knees, then Vader rises up and grabs the Emperor as he drags both them to their deaths by falling in lava.
