not the love story, it's the fact that it happened exactly as you imagined it would happened. There's no twist or turns in the story. It's just generically layed out. It is exactly how you would've imagined it as a child. That's the problem, the movie shouldn't happen the way you imagined it as a child. That would've been like the equivilant of using the Terminator 2 formula for Empire Strikes Back. That would've been like using ROTJ as the sequel to Star Wars minus the Jabba the Hutt scenes and rearraging things to fix continuity. Also it was a stupid idea of Lucas to use HD video. If he was serious about making a work of art he would have used film.
If ROTJ was the sequel to ANH people would be thinking, "get the hell out of here, we've already seen this before!" Since there is one movie that seperates them that has a very contrasting story to ANH, it somehow makes it more accepting and feasible to the audience in the 3rd act that we are seeing a lot of repeated themes from the first, big space battle at the end, attacking the death star again, blowing it up in a similar manner etc. I think ROTJ changes enough things around though to make it feel like we are watching something new. It was probably the first sequel to start the pattern of people making sequels that mirror the architecture of the first movie, Aliens, Back to the Future Part 2, T2, etc.
