i wonder who wookiegroomer is pointing this at:
from the nfo for his ROTJ blu-ray
To re-edit, mix and adjust video/audio, re-encoding is required. When this happens if you re-encode at anything like or less than the original bitrate you lose quality. Since my releases are meant to be enjoyed by the big boys with REAL home theater systems I encode at the highest possible bitrate to guarantee the best quality- without question. It would be embarrassing to share all this work and then shit on it by encoding it to a DVD9.
As i am the only person to have done any work like colour correction on the saga for AVCHD releases i take it that its pointed towards me. Whats with all the sudden hostility?

Well he seems to be hostile to everyone.
I would think it would be just as embarassing to uselessly enflate a 16 GB transfer to a 50 GB file when a nice 17 GB would have done fine. And considering his color correction on his broadcasts are... iffy. Where as yours kick ass. I took your color corrected Empire AVCHD and made it into a DVD (I have no blu ray or hi def equipment) and it looks great. I even took the dvd to a friends and upscaled it back to 1080 P on his big screen and it STILL looked great.
And now that I'm done kissing ass, what's the latest on the theatrical DVD? :)

I'm struggling transferring my NTSC laserdisc of TPM. I need this only as a guide layer so i can match up the HD edit with the theatrical version but my bloody DVD recorder remote is being an ass and i can't access the settings menu to change the input from PAL to NTSC. I even tried copying my PAL VHS and the damn macrovision prevents me from doing this. I know someone did a laserdisc transfer of TPM a long time back but i can't find a copy anywhere

Ignore it. Plain and simple. It's ridiculous...
You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Have you searched the internet for a firmware for your DVD recorder? Some players have had hacked firmware which bypasses macrovision. I've used them before, and never had a problem.
YOu find the firmware file on the net (type your model number and then "firmware"), burn the file to a CD and let it work.
Come to think of it... I have a NTSC VHS copy of TPM. I'll see if I can rip it... and send it to you. If I do though, I'm going to have to HIGHLY compress it. I don't have the patience to wait for a huge file to upload. You can use it as a reference however, but not for restoring missing shots.
Perhaps WG was just hoping to be "the 1080p guy", but he's not the only one, so he's annoyed? :p I don't really know his personality, though, so I can't say too much. (the direction his comment was going looks pretty obvious, though)
Also Ady you may find this page of use: http://movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=563
Also what are you going to use to restore the shots that were omitted for the DVD release?
I'd think the laserdisc would be the best option. I can deal with a few shots being lower-quality than the others (I'll have to for my "Trilogy" edit series, anyway).

Yes but in order to tackle this editing challenge he'll need to fix his blasted remote control! DAMN!!!
Also this particular laserdisc was supposed to have near-DVD quality anyway.

Not quite. I have the laserdisc. The transfer is dark and muddy looking and is clv instead of cav, being a laserdisc there are lines every now and then in the picture being interlaced. Yes it is worlds better than the bad widescreen us vhs that i have. The letterbox tape actually has less resolution than the pan and scan one, though that problem is gone on the laserdisc or the dvd.
Plus it is non anamorphic just like the gout being from a laserdisc and all, lol.
The best version of the theatrical is the digital video broadcast. I don't think anyone has preserved it have they? I think there may have been something called a TB release whatever that means. I read of once on russ15's site.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
I haven't looked at my TPM VHS in a long time. I bet I'd find it horrible looking now, as I did the ol' Faces VHS. I put in ESB and it looked like there was an artificial layer of grain that stayed static on the screen all the time, like you had to look through a thin curtain to watch the movie. Very weird.
A little something that I am working on for this set...
Galatians 2: 20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Somewhere I have a TPM laserdisc transfer on DVD. I'll take a hard look tonight through me files. I don't think the transfer was that hot, but it might work for what Ady needs.
Edit: Coov! I'm thrilled to see new work of yours again!

Possessed, I'd love to know how you did that, as I'm in the same position and have no Blu-Ray either
You have a pm.

Thank you very much.
You are "welcome", if you know what I mean.
Which would be quite odd if you didn't, because it's really quite simple.

OK, I have it here. What is the best way to get this to Ady?
Could you make a torrent of it? That seems to be fairly easy. And you could just keep it seeded long enough for him to download it. (PS... if you do this, or anything really I'd be interested in obtaining it as well)
I was just digging through all my old Star Wars DVD's I have collected over the years and I stumbled upon the TB EP 1 Theatrical Release DVD,it is 16:9 PAL with DD2.0 audio.

Would you consider sharing? The TB EP1 would be an invaluable source I'm sure, much better than laserdisc.
DJ, that is better than what I have. Mine is only 4:3.
