Has there been any discussion of just ending the flick at the logical closure point of the four of them on that mountaintop? I always kinda thought the and-everything-worked-out-fine postscript was a bit forced. I think I'd prefer a more Last Crusade ending, with the main plot points of the film being resolved and ended, and the film ending there. The marriage and the promotion are a bit much.

You mean kinda like this? More great work from Infodroid...

Looks good, especially the ending, but I feel as though there's something epic that's missing from the very end. Maybe if there's some sort of flashier cut to the credits at the ending, that would be better. I don't know. Great work, though, Infodroid!

Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about the idea myself. It does feel a bit rushed.

Too bad even the masterful infodroid cannot remove the overpowering cgi in those scenes.

Too much moving and the lighting looks fake.

The older movies had a more realistic built practical sets and so on.

This time just because they had cgi i think Spielberg went a bit overboard.

Some of the moments of this film i must admit after rewatching it are very very good.  The cgi ruins the movie and the rediculous alien ship.

I think the relationship between Indy and mutt and marion was very good and well done.  People see it as hokey i see it as typical lucas/spielberg.  There films are usually about family relationships, father son relationships in particular star wars and indiana jones.

I must say i enjoy the film a whole lot better on dvd than i did i theaters.  Man i must be getting old and cynical or something, this was a fun movie to watch, if not exactly without jarring flaws.

For me the problem is that there isn't really an ending note in that cut. I was imagining a shot of them all starting to walk down the mountain or something, but it isn't in the flick. Bummer.

That would have been perfect. Too bad indeed.

if some one could reverse a shot where it zooms down on them from the big vista of waterfalls i think it could work

Author

Yeah. I was just thinking one could mockup a gradual zoom out or a simply long distance shot from the footage we have. Only a few seconds would do the trick.

Author

Yes. Something almost exactly like that. Nice (and rapid) work.

I think another thing that would help the fake looking cgi is to use layers to roughin it up a bit. Add some dirt. Its just to shiney for its own good.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Don't think the CGI is that bad, myself. No ropier than the SFX dénouements of the other three films

Nah, I agree the CG should be dirtier or better yet very limited.

I agree, I think that all instances of obvious CGI in the movie should be masked somehow (cut, shortened, etc).

i dont seem to understand y everyone is bagging out the cgi in this film i mean people want wat was in the orignals but the thing is that the originals used the newest of the new in visual effects then so y not use the newest of the new in this film.

thats my opinon but

I agree.  As long as they didn't add Jar-Jar Binks or something, I'm okay with it.

The CG is generally well done in KotCS.

It is it just needs do have the plastic colours toned down alot. I have been in different wooded areas in several places and I know that the leaves are not electric green. Tune it down to a good dark forrest green and it shouldnt bother any of the other elements.

I don't think anyone is arguing against color correcting this, just the need to remove CG.

The waterfall scene is really an easy fix. All one needs to do is pretend that the waterfall is green screen and work from there.

I think there's too much deliberating going on with these edits. Granted, there is a lot wrong with the movie, but coloring Indy's hair? Changing the ending? At this rate, will there ever be a finished cut?

I actually don't even know for sure who is currently working on this edit. Jones1899 said he was almost finished quite a while ago, and I think Infodroid is doing an edit, and I don't even know if HeKS and Laser are making an edit.

The Infodroid edit is going to be the one that matters. They're doing some intense work on that ending, too. Not even sure I like where they're going with a couple of the options (talking about Indy and crew being teleported out of harm's way, rather than riding the water-elevator), but it's going to be impressive, technically.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this. I definitely want to do an edit, but I haven't had time to finish putting my edit ideas together yet or to become comfortable with the editing process, because I don't have much experience in it. I had planned on learning it the past couple months but things have been more hectic than expected. I will EVENTUALLY do an edit of this movie, but I literally have no idea whatsoever when that will be.

As for my edit, I had NEVER done anything like this before, and while I was able to improve several scenes, the edit as a whole lacked the polish that someone like InfoDroid can bring. Also, now that we've got som CG gurus on this, we can make substantial edits and HOPEFULLY make this movie even better than anyone thought. The key is to use these tools wisely. Also, several of the ideas we are discussing are just ideas/experiments. But we have a good group of guys working hard on this thing I think the results we be worth the time. So my involvment will be limited to support, ideas, opinions. I'll leave the tech stuff to those talented folks who have the skills needed to make this "Indy" movie and INDY movie.
