- Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm - done, saw it at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago and it blew my fucking mind
- 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm
- Star Wars - the 1977 version, pre-ANH, with the mono mix
- Alien
- Blade Runner
- also done, saw the Final Cut at the Music Box Theatre as well
- The Godfather and The Godfather Part II - double-bill is optional (sadly missed my chance for this one last year)
- Back to the Future
- Seven Samurai
- The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
on the biggest fucking screen possible
- How the West was Won in Cinerama (just because it's Cinerama - I don't even really like the movie all that much)

There's my ten.  Not in any particular order.  I also reserve the right to replace any of these with something else if I think of a better one later on.

You forgot one thing.....NO F**KING BABIES! OR LITTLE KIDS ALLOWED

Cell phones I can half way deal with, babies and kids are just a movie ruiner

Sorry but I think Lawrence of Arabia is extremely boring. It has good cinematography though. I popped the DVD in one night and watched it for like an hour and a half because I couldn't really care less where the story was going and itg was boring me to death. ATown8814

The Godfather is too boring?  It's a movie filled with people being killed in a multitude of interesting ways.  I'm curious as to what's boring about it?

As for my list:

Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi (all theatrical versions, no A New Hope, any of the original sound mixes)
Back to the Future
Star Trek II
Citizen Kane

Eh, more later when I can think of some.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

1. Madam Satan, The masquerade ball on a burning airship! This film is difficult enough to see on the small screen but on a big screen (hopefully after a good restoration) I can but dream.

2. Lawrence of Arabia (again I'm allowed to see things again ain't I ?) I could watch that film every week and not get bored with it.

3. Masque Of The Red Death. The colours, the one and only Vincent Price on the biggest screen possible.

4. Any Val Lewton film but if I must The Seventh Victim, it has such a magical quality to it.

5. Any Powell/Pressburger film if I had to be pressed I'd go for A Matter Of Life And Death.

6. Something by Tsui Hark, possibly A Chinese Ghost Story.

7. The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

8. Vertigo or maybe North By Northwest (I've seen them both so many times but never on the big screen).

9. The Ninth Configuration (possibly my favorite film, Janskeet would hate it going by his Lawrence Of Arabia comment).

10. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (I've seen the stage show, I've seen the film so many times I can't count but I'm still a cinema virgin because most cinemas won't allow the full on rice, water, audience par-tici-pation experience for health and safety reasons anymore).

By the way, since the only time I've ever seen Lawrence is in a theater in 70mm, I have no idea how anyone could ever watch it on a small screen - I just feel it would lose all its spectacle.  At least watch it on Blu-Ray (when it comes out) on the biggest screen/projector you can possibly find.

And how can you think The Godfather is boring?  Ghuh ...

Dances With Wolves

Apollo 13

Star Wars

Jaws

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Planet Of The Apes

Treasure Of The Sierra Madre

I've seen all of these except Planet & Treasure.  I just tried to pick a few that look best on the big screen.

I could write this list forever. How can you only have 10??

Sergio Leone's Westerns (Dollars trilogy/Once Upon a Time in the West/Duck You Sucker) (The Good the Bad and the Ugly would be the original US cut-hate the extended English version)

Every Kubrick film (saw Dr. Strangelove and 2001 in 35mm-want to see 2001 in Cinerama!)

The Star Wars Trilogy. OOT restored if possible-or 97 SE.

Most assuredly the 70mm restoration of Lawrence of Arabia-the most beautiful film ever made. Plus David Lean's other epics Kwai, Dr. Zhivago, and Ryan's Daughter.

The entire Bond series-saw Dr. No and Thunderball as rereleases!

Lots and lots of film noir-Double Indemnity/Ace in the Hole/Detour/Maltese Falcon/Chinatown. Out of the Past is unbelievable in a theater.

The Godfather, but even more so-Apocalypse Now (original).

The Indy trilogy.

Die Hard would be awesome.

The Wild Bunch-with other Peckinpah (Straw Dogs/Alfredo Garcia/Pat Garrett original cut)

THX-1138

These are off top of my head.

Ones I have seen: Blade Runner Final Cut in a theater blew my mind even after numerous viewings over the years. Vertigo is meant to be seen on the big screen-saw a new print of the 1998 restoration and it was phenominal. Would love to see Notorious. Solaris was insane in 35mm-Tarkovsky's vision should only be seen that way. Saw The Good the Bad and the Ugly but was the English extended cut. And of course, my greatest experience is still ANH in 1997.

These are the movies I would have loved to see THAT year they came out, just to see the crowd reaction to iconic events.  For anyone who saw these that year, please tell me what it was like.

1.  Jaws -  I would kill to see peoples reaction to the shark gobbling up people.   From what I heard, people were scared shitless walking out of that theater in 1975!

2.  Star Wars -  I did see it in 1977, but I was only 5 years old, so I only remember images, feelings like Leia did:)  Just to see the crowds reaction when Luke blows up the deathstar at the end is worth the price of admission, as I guarantee it got a standing ovation.

3.  Back to the Future -  For some reason, I didn't see this in the theater, and didn't catch it until VHS in the summer of 86.  But it would be funny to see the reaction of people when Marty kisses his mom!

4.  Rocky -  Another movie that was a crowd pleaser.  The music, the training, Rocky going the distance, isn't this what going to the movies is all about?

5.  The Godfather -  If anyone saw it in 1972, did you realize you were witnessing greatness?  IMO, the greatest movie ever made.

6.  The Empire Strikes Back -  I was 8 years old, and remember it alittle bit more.  But to listen to the crowd reaction to, "No, I am your father!"  is an iconic moment.

7.  Platoon -  I remember my brother seeing it in the theater in 1986, and he said after the movie, it is was silent, as people were just amazed at how powerful the movie was, and how horrific Vietnam was.  I saw Saving Private Ryan, as I felt the same way as no one cheered, it was just a quiet respect for a great movie.

8. Superman:The Movie -  Again, I was only 6 when this came out, so I did not see this in the theater, but what was it like seeing that great opening?  John Williams score?  Brando as Supermans father?  Then seeing someone fly on screen that looked real?

My local theater is having Flashback Thursdays and later in the month they're having Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Thursday after that, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. No idea why they also didn't get Temple of Doom.
