Since when has it been the trend to shit on the Back to the Future sequels? I always liked all three.

And Total Recall was awesome. The biggest mind-fuck movie I've ever seen.

Krull

Weird, weird movie.

Sky: Return to Oz was also an insult to the series of books. Now, I grew up reading that series, so once in a blue moon I'll go take part in an Oz forum. It's silly how some posters on Oz forums claim RTO was "more dark, like the books."

Well, I don't know what those people are snorting, but the books were never dark. At all. Even the more "darker" aspects were played in a light-hearted, humorous way.

RTO was an outright crappy horror flick. Dorothy in a mental institution about to get shock therapy? WTF? Not to mention the inconsistencies with the books. That's another thing. Some fans want to claim it was more "faithful" than the classic Oz movie. No, it wasn't. The Emerald City was miles and miles away from where Dorothy's house landed. In the film, it's half a stone throw away. That's just one example of many.

I think what it is, is that some readers become more mature and want the series they love so much to mature along with them. So they dellude themselves into believing said source material was "dark."

Like with pretty much anything Lewis Carroll ever wrote (Alice in Wonderland, etc.) ?

I liked II and III when I was a kid, and they are funny, but they're really very bad sequels.

First, they're rehashes of the first one, essentially.  While you can argue that II isn't, half the movie is literally retracing the action of the first one!

Second, the "chicken" thing.  It just makes Marty out to be a complete idiot, and makes no sense.  It wasn't even mentioned in the first one.

Third, once they get to 2015, the whole "Something's gotta be done about your kids!" joke now has to become a plot point ... and it ends up being something that really isn't a huge deal.  Hell, if Doc wanted to change that aspect of the future, why doesn't he tell Marty not to drag race so his kids don't turn out like pussies?  Why do they need to even go to the future to "fix" anything when it can be prevented in the present?  I know those are issues from the ending of the first movie, but that's because the ending of the first movie was never meant to be followed up with anything.  It was a one-off joke.

Point being, but I recently watched all three, and II and III just left a very bad taste in my mouth after watching them.  They're no longer in my collection - I sold the 3-disc set and bought the new (very nice) standalone copy of the first one.

I don't know, are people using that approach to defend Burton's AIWL?

ST5 has a bad rap for no reason
GB2 wasnt that bad
BTTF2 was awesome, 3 was a joke but that was released in 1990 :p
Over the Top was awesome
No Holds Barred was so bad it made the film good
Jaws 2 was not in the 80s :p
Any rocky movie after 2? Rocky 4 was probably the best Rocky movie of them all!
Total Recall was not 80s :p
PA7 was not 80s :p

I love the 80s and who ever mentioned Krull as a bad movie obviously didnt understand the movie, that movie is CLASSIC

I agree.  BTTF II & III are good sequels, as they don't fall in the 'shit' sequels category for me.   They both lack that magic of the original, but BTTF II is very innovative and had a cool story, because what would anyone do if they had a time machine?  Go back and bet on sports and become a millionaire!

Superman III & IV are shit sequels, movies that I saw once, and never ever want to see again.  I think it was Superman IV where Superman addresses the United Nations?  Even as a teenager I was like, WTF???

Superman III is kind of a guilty pleasure for me, but that's for another thread entirely. ;)

Yeah, I love the BTTF sequels as well.  BTTF Part II was the first one I saw, so I have to have a fondness for it, although I now see it's not as timeless as the original.  While some might write off the plot as being lazy, I find it intriguing the idea of going back into the events of the first film and seeing them from a different angle (even though I've long since noticed all the timing inconsistancies between the two versions, it's still done very well).  And while the climax of Part III can be interpreted as unnecessary (there's no longer any pressing time constraint, so they don't need to derail a train!) it's still a lot of fun.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
