No disc art yet. You still want me to wait for disc art to send you yours?

Speaking of... Sluggo, are you planning on making disc art for those nice covers of yours?

The 14 GB ESB is outstanding. I haven't really watched the AVCHD and the 14 GB back to back to compare, but I don't remember thinking that the AVCHD looked bad at all, even with the lower bitrate for DVD9. I think if you're looking for the best possible quality and you have a way to view mkv's on your HDTV and can handle 14 GB of storage for 1 movie, then by all means I think it is the best way to go. The AVCHD is nice to have on a disc that can play on set-top boxes and can sit on your shelf with the rest of your library. I'd actually recommend both for those reasons...

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Ok. Well the first colour correction pass for Episode 1 is now complete. Over 48 hours to encode the first pass colour corrected movie to lossless avi. So many colour filters used causes everything to crawl. If i didn't have my quad core processor i would have never attempted to colour correct this in 1080p.  There are about 100 shots that need some slight tweaking but here is a comparison sample of the final colour correction.

Sorry about the size of that but there were so many i wanted to show. In the last 2 shots you can see :

A- (the shot of Obi-Wan) many shots seem to be very dark with the white levels way too low. Finally the lightsabers have the bright white core

B- R2 in TPM is the wrong colour in almost all shots. In fact his blue decals change shades throughout. Finally he is now the same colour as OT R2

Yeah that does look great. Definite improvement. Do you think there was a reason behind the pink tint?

George thought colours were symbolic so he tinted all of the films a different colour.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

You are the man!!!  PM sent.

Sorry I have been away so long.  My world at work got shifted into overdrive... that and I got burnt out making covers.  It's good to be back.

MA,  I'll have mock-ups of the whole set ready to go this weekend.

Ady, The color correction looks much more natural.  Nice to see the pink gone.  Now I will be able to watch the movie without the rose-colored glasses.

After Adywan's brilliance it's no longer The Pink Menace.

Agreed. :) The funny thing is, this came out of nowhere! Even if we'd've known he was doing something with the 1080p versions again, I'm pretty sure most of us would've figured ROTJ. To that end, has it been an easier job to color correct TPM than it will be to do ROTJ, Adywan? It may not be as bad as ESB, but as vaderios' mock-ups have shown, there are lots of odd tints in it, sometimes more than one in a scene.

I'm fairly sure he said TPM was next after finishing ESB.

Ady, you need an HD logo...

I know it is not technically a Blu-ray, but I thought you might like it.

yes, i'll be working on that as soon as the AVCHD is finished. I needed a bit of a break from ESB:R as i am waiting for some materials to be delivered before i can do any more work on it so i decided to squeeze these TPM projects in . I'll be making some covers for the AVCHD set later this month too.

Content-wise, it should be exactly like the DVD version.  40 minutes extra pod race, etc. ;-)

You know, I was going to watch TPM soon.  Too bad I won't be able to get over the pink now that I've seen the split screen! ;-P

Alrightly. I just figured that since it seems every time it airs or is pressed somewhere, it's a bit different, y'know? :p As far as the theatrical cut, has anyone really seen that (without making their own) since it was actually in the theater?

The theatrical cut is on the VHS and on the laserdisc releases. It was only changed for the DVD release. The laserdisc has the theatrical 5.1 mix so i will be using that for the DVD. The Theatrical cut DVD  will be a NTSC only release and only a DVD-9. I won't be sending out any copies of this and i will only be posting it to usenet, but no doubt someone will start a torrent of this after
