A good thought is when luke is popping his head we can add a new establishing shot that shows 2 doors. One is locked that appears captured leia went that way and one open that is the trap. So a tunnel, elevator or what is good to showed there!

here is a quickie. Well where the panels are imagine a door or something, that shows luke must follow the dark path lol

-Angel

I like the top one a lot better... a little more subtle (elevator to go up, dark path to go down.. not to mention the steam already indicates proximity to the carbonite chamber.  Besides, the second pic seems a little off to me). Maybe put some colored "blinkies" on the elevator door control panel if you need it to stand out a little more...

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Adywan, make sure you save all your files this time so if a higher definition version of ESB comes out you can just color correct it (if necessary) and insert all the changes into it.

I'm amazed to see that Lucas really didn't have anything planned out in regards to the location of the carbon freezing chamber. To me, it makes no sense that the chamber would be located in the vane. You mean to tell me that Vader, all the stormtroopers, and the prisoners all took a trip up there to test the carbon freeze? I don't see any way that it makes sense to put that room up there. I had always assumed that it was located somewhere in the main city itself. But after following this thread, it does seem that Lucas did not actually map this out in the slightest. The problems with the room Leia and Han are in earlier is another great example of how there is no continuity at all. Doors lead to nowhere, and hallways that should be there don't even exist. I don't know how much of this can actually be fixed - I'm afraid there's a point where we're going to have to accept that the layout of Cloud City just doesn't make sense. Of course, we can always hope that Ady will pull something off with his magic!

At any rate, it's great to see those with a good grasp of these issues using their skills to illustrate them.

Perhaps Luke rode on a transit system for 15 minutes before reaching the carbon chamber, although the way the movie cuts, makes it look like he got there right after the previous cut.

Come on it is the star wars universe. He could have gotten to any distance at an unbelievable speed. It could have been by pod or as janskeet said some kind of transit system. I have played games that put the carbon freezing chamber within the actual city then an elevator that leads straight down in to the gantry area (the long stem at the bottom of cloud city.  It could be anywhere. I honestly would think it better to just leave all this were that goes nonsense out of the film. We dont need to know little detail.

I still hope Adywan addresses the issue. I think it is pretty obvious this is a miskake on Lucas's part, either that or he didn't care.

Vaderios, to keep this on topic, I just wanted to ask you if you know if Adywan is going to do anything about the Luke getting to the carbon chamber debacle? Also, your PM inbox has reached its limit and needs to be emptied. I couldn't send my last message.

I like this better, in order for the carbon chamber to fit inside of "the processing vane" that's going to have to be a pretty beefy width. Not to mention later in that scene we see a lot of winding hallways. I'm a little confused how they could be winding when the vane appears to be straight from the outside. Like I said in an older post, I think this was just a case of George Lucas overindulging in his obsessive compulsions to do whatever he wants with no consideration for logic or geography.

The irony.

'Obsessive compulsion' would be pore over the minutiae of 'logic and geography' with no consideration for efficient storytelling and expressive visuals. Sound familiar?

I'm pretty sure Michael Bay isn't a prime example of someone who pores over the minutiae of logic and geography, but then I haven't seen Transformers 2 yet so for all I know it's a 3-hour thesis on spatial continuity and diegetic rigour ;-)

Okay, this turned into being a lot more than I thought, but I have so many criticisms I just put it all on one diagram.

The curvature is a matter that i was concern. I hope ady will do that not only to fix it but to create continuity between the two patterns.

Also for the interior size Impfigher made an exceptional analysis. some million megacycles ago :)

Nice one

Well according to erm wookieepedia the carbon freezing chamber is somewhere in the actual city the big part. Then the gantry and the vane thing could be at the bottom of the thing before the stem. My biggest concern is at the proportions of everything.
