This set always baffeled me I made a post about this awhile ago and some of you guys blew it off calling it pure nonsense. Now look, you are bringing this up after blowing me off. So this wing that comes out into the middle of the shaft, is the carbon freezing chamber inside of it?

That would not make any sense to me were that to be the carbon chamber. With the movement of the duel and the size of the chamber and where Luke falls out the window I would have thought that structure would have needed to have been much larger.

If it's in a book though.....

Perspective be damned,lol.

bigbaddaddyvader, some here (myself included) thought that the 'Carbon Chamber' was meant to be situated somewhere in the 'surrounding' structure, and that Luke (and Vader) had travelled along the extending 'arm' leading to the interior of the 'vane'....rather than the 'Carbon Chamber' being somehow situated inside the 'vane itself near the top....  Having said that, I would have liked to see the extending 'arm' moved up a bit on the 'vane', so that it was more in line with the 'round window', to match the area that Luke is seen entering into as the 'gate' shuts behind him.

However, it seems that Adywan prefers to imply that the 'Carbon Chamber' IS at the top of the 'vane', and is probably one of the reasons that he is planning a miniature of this.  I guess some of it's dimensions will differ quite a bit from the 'vane' currently seen, so this can seem more plausible.

One from ESB I wish could go in is when Han tells Leia "you should wear girls' clothes all the time." :)

That sure is a howler of a deleted scene.  Who wrote that?  Thank goodness it never made the cut, lol.

Adywan, that reminds me.  I know that the lightsaber that flew out the 'round window' with Luke IS actually shown, but I still think it's a bit lost among the nearby 'debris' in the shot without your helpful arrow, which pointed it out to me in the first place, lol....

I'd still like to see it perhaps positioned nearer to Luke's right hand (where our eyes are drawn during this shot), if at all possible.  No worries if not, but for years i thought that it had surely fallen down the long chasm below, and that it was yet another oversight by the makers when Luke appeared with it to face Vader again!  Turned out I was wrong, but I wonder how many others thought this due to it not being placed in a little more obvious position?

That or just get rid of the extra junk on the walkway, so the only thing on the grating is the sabre.

I do understand that and for where Luke falls through the window it makes some sense however when Luke arrives at Cloud City and enters the door where R2 gets left behind he is clearly inside the main Cloud City structure as you can see the corridors, etc and then he goes up one little lift and hey presto he's in the carbon chamber. That to me doesn't make sense that he can go from the interior of the city to the wind vane structure like that especially seeing as the vane structure is so isolated in the mining shaft

But then again there really is no need to look TOO deeply into this!Doubtless Ady has his idea for this all mapped out anyway.

Well according with the time pacing we never see Luke walks so deep.

In an further note, Do you agree or find a good idea to having some steam/smoke placed in this chamber bubble from the outside so it can make a better definition to where is the chamber?

Or, or, ady can put some more Chemical plant detail for a more industrial look.

If all that looks destructing and confuse the eye to locate luke, i think is not.

we have only two shots: The establishing and the one that we see it from below as luke fails/falls.

I've been thinking when Luke is taken via a platform to see Vader the trip is longer and more drawn out than shown, it's just shortened for us.

Odd thing is since I first saw ESB in 1980 until now I always believed that the carbon chamber was inside Cloud City and not a part of the vane structure. As it seems now that this is where it is I think that some steam would be a good idea to establish the location of the chamber and map the path of Luke and Vader's duel for the viewer.Sure would have cleared it up for me before now, lol.

I think, though, that it would need to be in keeping with the steam we see in the carbon freezing process rather than smoke.I do think it is a good idea and that is a great mock-up as always.

What confuses me about that though is that Luke would have had to go along the arm of the vane to get a platform to take him to the carbon chamber if it is indeed in the wind vane structure and we only see him in the Cloud City interior and only see the vane exterior after Luke goes out the window.

Maybe I am looking too deep into this but it just confuses the hell out of me that that is where the carbon chamber is given where we see Luke going through the interior door and then popping up in the chamber apparently in the vane.

No, That always confused me too. - Even with Leia telling us it's a trap.

A good thought is when luke is popping his head we can add a new establishing shot that shows 2 doors. One is locked that appears captured leia went that way and one open that is the trap. So a tunnel, elevator or what is good to showed there!

Too PT?

If this is too radical and you think that destructs the viewer from the character (luke) we can just remove the industrial background/wall of this shot so it appears is the rest of the cloud city.:

The wall taken from the previous shot.

It would be hilarious if someone did a Captain Obvious version of the saga where Ric Olié's head popped up and explained everything (and I mean everything) in a Terry Gilliam animation style.

Great idea that Angel.

Your right, it does'nt make sense for the chamber to be situated on the vane, you can't say that all the characters flew there becuase the shaft is probably too small for any craft to get to the vane, even for a Cloud Car, There does'nt seem to be any access to the Vane from the shaft either.

The Vane see's no purpose really apart from the final part of the duel.

Well I am glad to know I am not on my own with that.

Angel that seems like a good idea.Like the idea of Luke making a choice to take him to Vader mirroring the Dagobah cave.
