I say, why bother with the prequels? They are beyond repair. All the skills in the world can't make them work. You can't polish a turd.

Yes... it can be done.

Really? You envisioned the Old Republic-era Jedi as a bunch of self-absorbed, hypocritical pricks? Out of touch with reality, cultish child indoctrination, tabula raza fallacies abound, legalism incarnate...you thought of all that from Obi-Wan's glowing recollection of the guardians of peace and justice of a golden age long now passed?

Hey, more power to ya; I'm not saying you couldn't have, only that that's setting the bar remarkably low. I always envisioned the Jedi as selfless, compassionate characters who wore their humanity on their shoulders and genuinely cared about helping people, not the disingenuous Pharisees we ended up with in the PT.

[still somewhat offtopic, but I wanted to quickly respond to this] What's funny is that although I agree with you, I was under the impression that it was purposeful- the Jedi used to be better, but had become the way they are portrayed in the prequel trilogy, leading to their downfall. *shrug*

By the time you get around to the prequels they will be on Blu Ray, with new transfers and a CG Yoda in TPM so the coloring isssues may well be moot.

That's just an opinion, not fact. We all have differing opinions.

I went with some of your advice and I revised the poster. It has no logo because well. I could'nt make a good one so anyone can put a logo on it. And yes the moon is gone.

Were you thinking of something like this?

I was thinking of something subtle not a big assed set of words that destroys the flow.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The ROTS sabers looked like they were made in microsoft paint. I mean look at the OT sabers they were moving and hissing they looked like they could cut something. The ROTS sabers looked like glowing night sticks that would piss off an enemy more than kill them

You have noticed the difference between old style optical effects (ie optical printer techniques) and new style digital CGI effects.

As a completely non-OT:R subject but related to Ady's mock-up, I would also suggest making Mace the only Jedi to confront Palpy.  This may be a nightmare to edit (both visually and auditory), but if pulled off would add a lot to Mason J. Windu's character.  Just something to file away until 2019....

i will be doing that.

Cool, saves all of those Jedi from dying in the dumbest way imaginable.

What I always though when the fight was about to happen, was what we saw in ROTJ and later in The Force Unleashed.

They confront him, Sidious cracks a smile and huge wave of force lighting the others with Mace crumple to the floor in smoky heaps and or fetal positions. Windu is all that is left standing, Mace does the squint/look of determination and fight goes as before.

Or right before that Sidious does his 'Strike me down, but use all your hate or you will not survive.' Then the 'unlimited power'.

Yup, still GL running things, so no nothing will be improved.

I image Ady will have to fix the TPM CGI Yoda too.

Even if GL announces a big project for the Blue-ray release, ie a new master digital print for the HD and another wave CGI updates (I still feel Ady will get ripped off if GL does that since the things in ANH feel too professional for GL to not do himself) certin things will still not be fixed and Ady or another will have to go back and redo them.

Though video editing software in 10 years might be little better.

It was actually the Director's Guild of America.  Since he refused to put Irvin Kershner, a DGA member, in the opening credits of ESB, even though Kershner didn't care, the DGA wanted to fine them a shit-ton of money and IIRC kick Kershner out of the DGA.  To protect his director, Lucas himself accepted the fine and quit the DGA.

This had the unforunate drawback of preventing him from ever hiring a Guild director again - and Spielberg was (and still is) a member of the DGA.  So he hired UK director Richard Marquand instead.

Actually it gets even more complicated.

GL always had permission from the DGA and SAG (Screen Actors Guild) to do SW this way, but FOX never forgave GL for outsmarting them when came to merchandising (which didn't exist in any real form before SW) but the very concept of creator/director having that much power upset them and other studios. So they used their influence to create the incident with the Guild to either derail TESB or RTOJ.

GL found this out only later and that is why he left the DGA.

(Or that is the story from the head of FOX who green lit SW in 1976 and was asked to leave FOX for how much power and influence he let GL have for the original SW.)

What did you make wrong here?

You put adywan production with the same color as the sky and the ESB logo white that it loses some of the detail and is hard to read.

plus the corner of the ESB logo reaches the feather edge of the stretced revisited panel.

Just my feedback for better results ;)

Well, it was just a quick example. The corner of the title touches the snow, not a feathered edge.

I almost make the logo black, but that didn't look right in my eyes. And the blue "Adywan Production..." thing is blue because...ummm...that's just the way I made it, okay!? :P

I thought people would get upset that the "STAR", and "WARS" weren't tilted like "The Empire Strikes Back" is.

Personally, I would have also changed the Darth Vader picture to one that was facing straight ahead, and used a different action picture of the Star Destroyer & Mel. Falcon, and have Boba Fett facing to his right, towards Lando.

I would just like to bring this one back up.

Ady, will you be adding any saber marks for this shot? I figure since Luke swings across the surface, rather than stabbing the door lock, that it seems logical to see where Luke's saber touched the surface. Thoughts?

Luke had cut the latch and there is no real place to add any burn marks. i may add a faint heat glow on each section of the latch but that's about it

Ehh, I understand where you're coming from Ady, but it IS a lightsabre not a lockpick... not to mention, when Luke swings that thing, does the FX of the blade go through any of the metal around the door?

Thats the reason I brought it up. The door hatch seems to appear like it is indented, meaning when Luke swung the saber it looks like he just swipes it across the surface, hitting the lock mechanism in the process, rather than "picking the lock" as previously said. At least to me, it looks like the saber is cutting from the latch itself, to the area on the upper side (from camera's POV) of the latch.

This mockup is crude, and maybe a bit exaggerated, but only to show the path of the cut I see (rough, might not be accurate). What I would really want to see is something not as distracting, but still visible. Hope this gets my idea across better. Apologies for the poor quality.

Well considering the idea that he hits the lock mechanism (which is the correct) it may have a blinking red light (not blue, ady)

That stops blinking when luke hits it and opens the hatch.

The second idea is wrong but it was too late when i thought about it. i still posting it.

BEHOLD.......My sad artistic skills, but incredible GIF skills... :D

Luke vs AT-AT

Based on that it should at least carbon scar the entire visible underside that follows the path of the blade.

Unless Ady wants to mantain that the AT-AT's armor is too strong to show such damage, which is fine since the concept that a Lightsaber can 'cut through anything' I always did find a little silly.

dammit

i did this at work yesterday
out all night  - get in this morning and everyone and their dog has had a go at this

oh well might as well post it anyway

the problem i see with doing this is that even if a lightsaber can cut through anything there should probably be a drag factor when cutting through armor like that - think qui-gon melting the blast doors in tpm but not so severe. that may make it undo-able. plus ady didn't seem too keen on this idea iirc. still he's changed his mind before :)

I agree about the Qui Gon reference, which is why I think a more subtle saber cut would work better. It just bugs me a little that the saber cuts the latch, makes an explosion, but doesn't leave any marks.
