I was against mace's saber being changed. But I really like the way it looks. Even though samuel jackson said he would only do it if he could have a purple saber, HE AINT THE DIRECTOR OF THIS EDIT LOL

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I personally like the purple sabre, and I liked MagnoliaFan's touch of recolouring Dooku's to be gold — just as purple, being a combination of blue and red, represents Windu's aggressive fighting style (that's EU canon, btw, not fanwankery), I saw yellow (being a combination of red and green) signifying Dooku's moral ambiguity, which MF had already established with a few very minor cuts.

One thing I will say is that I preferred the 'flickering' sabres of ANH and ESB to the solid sabres of the other four films; the flicker went well with the buzzing and humming and lightning clashes and gave the impression of immense power barely contained. I hope Adywan can add a flicker to the sabres from ROTJ:R onward; given he's repainting them anyway to avoid the fatness and fix the colours it shouldn't be much more work, and it might even be easier given we don't need as precise continuity of thickness and position between frames.

Another thing that just occurred to me: if we keep his sabre purple, and do a couple of other cuts, we can turn the "This party's over, muthaf**ker" scene into a quasi-cliffhanger. If someone lights a blue or green sabre at Dooku's neck, it's obvious it's a good guy come to kick his arse. If it's purple, it's ambiguous. Not saying this is necessary, but if an edit wanted to turn that into a cliffhanger moment, it'd kinda help if the sabre was purple.

So many thoughts about the symbolism of the saber colors....

I mean  I agree in some points but i never liked that colors or the rainbow can fit to a SW movie apart from the EU and games.

Even the jedi are keepers of the peace, they are knights. So in its nessesary they will use violence from a certain point of view, no matter the color of the blade.

Yes but those were clear! Good guys bad guys.

Now with purple that means a guy that is a big agressive and a more bad ass or whatever it starts feel EU.

SSWR, that was simply amazing! I had my doubts about changing Windu's character, but you did it very well. The voice could use some work, but it matched perfectly. As someone else said, it really makes Windu a bette character, and not such a d*ck all the time.

Great mockup, Vaderios! I suggested earlier in this thread that Mace should be the only Jedi to confront Palpatine, and your mockups are exactely what I had in mind. That way we can also get rid of Mace's folding chair posse, and be spared their lame deaths. If we are going with Mace being the only Jedi to confront Palpatine, I suggest we add some more empty seats in the Jedi council scenes. It's logical Mace brought backup to arrest a Sith Lord, but by adding some empty chairs, we can show that Mace didn't really have any other option than to go alone. It makes him more brave too.

So many great ideas and mockups...who said this thread was dead? :P

Mace goes alone... TO THE BATMOBILLE!

So he has to be alone!

Mace Windu the lone badass. Coming to eat your tastey burger and quench his thirst with your tastey beverage.

Again, well done Vaderios!

And since you posted that shot of the hanger inside the Jedi Temple, how about we use that particular background for the scene with Obi-Wan and Mace in AOTC? The scene I mean is on the DVD among the deleted scenes, but I think that scene works better than the one replacing it (the one with Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda in the halls of the Jedi Temple). If we use the background with the gunships like we see in ROTS, it could answer the question where the Republic got all those ships from, since they didn't even have an army to begin with.

This shot you refering is so lame but SO LAME from CGI view that dont deserve it. I can see it only as a workprint not ever a deleted scene.

Games have a lot of better 3d.

i was wondering if back at 2002 all these stuff was cool and ahead of its age...

Yeah, the quality of the scene is pretty bad. But that's because it was abandoned, and replaced with the scene with Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda in the hallway. The original scene was 'finished' for the DVD release. Obviously, they didn't put as much time and money in it compared to the scenes in the final movie, but I still appreciate that they put some time and effort in making the scenes presentable for the DVD.

The scene with Obi-Wan and Mace in the hangar works better, in my opinion, because it explains why Obi-Wan is worried about Anakin, and not just that he is worried. I also like the setting better. That said, we could only add the scene in if we give the hangar the same background as we see in ROTS. I'm going to try and see if I can make it work in Photoshop.

Amazing work with Windu the last few pages!  Love it all!

The glares between Windu and Anakin now have meaning, instead of him just being upset at Anakin for being a whiny baby!

Nice job with the Fisto and whoeverthatis removal, Vaderios. :) And I know that it can be done in video, too, even just thinking of the incredible job Darth Editous did on ADM's "Superman Redeemed" in getting rid of Gus in one scene. You'd never know he was ever there.

Yeah i remember that in Superman Redeemed.

The removal was easy, but can be a bit tricky in motion. By the time of ROTS:R is in production, ady will know too much so he can make it work.

Have anyone notice that i erased the jedi that appears behind the bubblegun of the gunship?

Excellent work SSWR! Really like what this does to Mace's character. Makes him into an arrogant, untrusting S.O.B, which would explain why he goes to confront Palpatine WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ANY OTHER JEDI!

Love the mockups Angel. Mace's saber should definitely be blue. I have no problem with other colours of saber in the PT, but the fact that Sam Jackson ASKED to have it, and that he's such a prominent character, cheapens it.
The way I see it, if we ARE going to have other colours in the PT, it should be seen in the background of a battle at the very most (showing the rarity).

The main character I can see in the whole saga as deserving to have a different colour (yellow is a favourite of mine) is Qui Gon. He's an unorthodox Maverick and I think it would probably suit his character really well.

Having said this, I REALLY like the idea of changing EVERY saber in the PT to blue. When Luke then makes his new saber the audience is like WOW! It singnifies a renewed era for the Jedi and is also a bit ambiguous. We don't know what this colour might signify (good or evil?) as we've never seen it before (except in tie lasers). And it shows Luke's seperation and lack of knowledge of the "true" jedi of old.

In the lone sabreman on the glassy knoll version it would add to Anakin Vader's contempt of Mace after such a treasonous attack on the Chancellor if he referered to him simply as "Windu" when he is explaining the Jedi Rebellion to Padme.

He can't even bear to refer to him as Master anymore.

You mean the guy standing next to Fisto? That's why I said "Fisto and whoeverthatis." Or is that a third guy whose face I see reflected in the glass?

Yes Bingo! Behind the glass :)

Edit: Whoever saw The emperor's New clones, a fan film, the dude who makes Mace windu has an exceptional similarity with jackson's voice. We can look for him.
