There's no reason there wouldn't be TIEs on both sides of the shield so there's no need for your "science crap" ;-p

The Emperor's weakness is his over convidence, he dismissed his guards so I doubt if he would see the need for fighters to defend his tower (he can foresee every situation as far as he is concerned) and the Empire would no doubt deploy all it's ships into the battle on the other side of the shield.

It doesn't make much sense to have them in that scene.

If the 2 Death Star scenerio was employed however you could have a few ships closer much like the battle in ROTS.

As for the duels. ESB's is definately the most dramatic, the best looking and has the most tension in it. The least interesting one for me is the one in TPM which looks like someone else playing a computer game with all that platform jumping and the illogical force field gates. I barely knew the characters, they don't even talk to each other, I already knew one of them would survive and I never got the feeling that the other two would. The Anakin/Obi-wan fight was similar but at least I got to know the characters long enough to have some emotional investment in it (not much though).
