corellian77, I hadn't seen that interesting top shot of production art before. Nice one.
Adywan, while I'd seen the 'prototype' miniature shots over the years, I'd also never seen the actual 'Falcon/Tantive lV' miniature shot you showed in your last post. It's always neat to see rare behind-the-scenes photos of the Original Trilogy filming miniatures.
It was especially neat to clearly see where exactly it's retractable 'landing struts' were situated.
i scanned it from a great book i got from Birmingham last week for £2. It was a Star Wars special of Sci-fi & fantasy modeller. It has some great BTS pics of the ships in many stages of production. many of the pics i have never seen before including a Red Squadron Y-Wing.

I was wondering after seeing your change of the Vectored graphic of the Death Star plans. Are you going to add graphic inserts on those glass panels that everyone is looking through in the control room?
Another is adding glow effects on the AT-AT's armor after the ground turrets fire on them and have them last a few seconds or show damage.
I don't know how difficult that would be or do think it would make them too busy and distracting, because I understand (ironically from the SG1 dvd's) that less is more and you don't want to go overboard. Adding too much and making it too difficult to concentrate on the scene.
Oh and you use the DVD's and not the 720P versions that are about the net right or do you uprate them?
there will be some subtle additions to the glass panels in the Hoth control room. I don't think they needed the additions in ANH:R because the yaving control room seemed a lot more low tech than the Hoth one.
i don't think that the AT-AT's need any form of glow added when the lasers hit. The armour is very strong and a glow would indicate that the armour is hot, which would be a weakness. The blast marks that are left is all that needs to be there.
i used the DVD for ANH:R because the HD versions weren't available back then. For the rest of the saga i am using the German HDTV 1080p versions, downscaling to 720p. Even downscaled to DVD res there is still more detail than in the official DVD's

ady would you consider chopping the ships out of those pics & have them flying about in the background (escaping Bespin, or in the reble fleet etc) ?
i'm building a few small ships to add to the end rebel fleet to replace many of the ships, especially the cut & paste ones in the last shot.

Sure you are going to do something for that :D
I hope always with some more modern panels for the snow speeders.
Also i dont know if you noticed some jerky dusty edges in some particular scenes like this.
The most safe way to eliminate them is to zoom a bit...

unfortunately i won't be able to do anything like that for the exterior in those top shots. The ground is moving very fast and i would have to build a very long set to replace it in order to have new AT-At's . but the displays will be having a tweak.
as for the feathery edges, this appears on many movies but the overscan on TV's eliminates this. yes, you will see it on a HDTV that does 1:1 pixel mapping but this doesn't bother me.

Speaking of destruction, im wondering if a little brainstorm about what destruction the bombers can do.
See it as a test.
I always wanted to see something like when the asteroid hits paris in armagedon here. Not something apocalyptic just the style.
From the other hand we can have some broken stones/debris combined with some molten ones in an electrified explosion.
Anyways the compositing is pretty weak in these shots(you can see bad transparency problems with tie fighters)
Assuming Ady will make the canyon at the end he can explode it to film that scene :)
Watch the C4 flyboys

now this is something that i did think long and hard about and i think they got it right just as it is. I don't see the bombs as being destructive at all. Why, if they want to capture the falcon, would they use destructive weapons that would possibly cause all sorts of internal damage to the inside of the asteroid and possibly destroy the falcon in the process. I believe that they are just very low yield bombs, maybe just flash bombs, that are only meant to draw the falcon out. more of an audible attack.
