TV Shows renewed and cancelled.

I heard heroes and dollhouse were renewed.

Chuck got renewed according to trekmovie.com

Night Rider went from being renewed to cancelled, lol.

Sarah Connor cancelled withour reprieve, i know sorry guys who loved the show.  When shows that jumped the shark 2 seasons ago like heroes are still on the air. Oh well.

Fringe was renewed.  I wonder if fringe’s renewal and heroes have anything to do with a certain trek film by JJ abrams that stars zach quinto.

Lost was renewed also.  The plot was “LOST”  a long time ago the show jumped the shark.  Yet it is one of those original bizarre entertainments like X-files beyond season 5 that make you go hmm.

When Heroes succumbed to the george lucas syndrome of making all the characters related i had to pull the plug and not watch it anymore.  Second season was retarded and wasted.  Third season a rehash of season 1 with some twists thrown in the plot, lame.  I only own season 1 on dvd.

One you didn't mention, I hate that "The Unusuals" got canceled so quickly, it was turning out to be a great show with good characters. They barely made it out of the gate when they got the pink slip, shame.

I've lost interest in Conner Chronicals, so no big loss there for me.

I too did not like the second season of Heroes, but I started getting back into it as I did think that season 3 was fairly good. I'm willing to give it another go.

Never have watched "Lost".

Did not give one hoot in hell for Knight Rider, there will always only be one Knight Rider to me just as there will always only be one Daisy Duke.

Disappointed TSCC was cancelled, I'd hoped they'd pick it up for a third season. But it really did it to itself, if I were in charge of making the decison, I couldn't justify renewing it either.

I don't think Lost ever jumped the shark by any means. It simply started off as a show with mainstream appeal, and slowly evolved/revealed itself to be a sci-fi show, which quite honestly, are never that popular. Season two, where people say the shark was jumped, is when I really got into the show and started to consider myself a fan. Season one, where everyone consider the show ground breaking and award worthy, is the season I only kept watching because my wife liked it. If it hadn't been for her, I wouldn't have watched very much beyond the pilot. I think the last season of Lost was far superior to the first season. Lost was putting a foot on the shark, and seriously considering jumping it with parts of season three, but they completely redeemed themselves with the S3 finale and have been going strong ever since.

To me, it is the best long running sci-fi show to hit air waves since The X-Files, only looks like it will remain strong until the end, where X-Files bombed big time before the death throw subsided.

Regardless of whether or not they are making it all up as they go, which is by far the biggest complaint I hear against the show, it is to their credit that many of the mysteries of the first season make perfect sense in light of revelation made in the later seasons. If they have been making it up as they go, they have done a great job at it, especially considering the vast number of writers and limitations with the availability of some of the actors. People get impatient with the show because answer come so slowly, but to me that makes it all the more enjoyable. If you are the type that likes to read the last page of a book immediately after finishing the first chapter before proceeding to read everything between, then you are going to be frustraited with the show. If you enjoy reading all pages of a book in order, spoiler free as the author intended, then Lost is a lot of fun.

I am surprised a good number of the science fiction shows on tv are not being cancelled because those are the ones usually that go first.  And they keep the 18th season or whatever of american idol and survivor, lol.

TV is hell for writers i bet. and actors too.  What happens when you are cancelled.

They should make a show just around FOX canceling shows.

24 is ironic it was renewed because its the writers and producers and showrunners of star trek enterprise in  charge of that show now.

They would not cancel family guy again since it was uncancelled.

I remember fox canceled futurama because they were expecting it to be the simpsons in outer space.

And the Simpsons has had how many seasons and never canceled.

That is a show I'd give a chance! I'd probably suck, and get cancelled by FOX after the first season though.

It could be a documentary style show like The Office, called the Studio Executives. It would feature a cast of query studio employees having to deal with things like writers allowing their shows to jump the shark and having to make the hard decision to fire them (Heroes) and quickly come up with some new writers who do just as bad of a job. One story arc could revolve around a writers strike. There could be a lovable goofy young intern who is always making funny and charming blunders. The titular executives would also have to deal with things like Prima Donna actors wanting more pay, or wanting to weasel their way out of contracts, or demand a better personal trailer. A running joke could be that they are constantly looking for a new sci-fi show to the one they are canceling. As soon as they successfully replace their canceled show, they decide the new one isn't working either, shift its time slots around, then start looking for a new show to replace it with. Some short minor mention of their sci-fi show delima would be made in every episode.

This could be exciting stuff, and it might actually even be funny. Quick, someone remind me why I am not a TV writer again?

FYI, "Lost" is having its final season next year.  It was announced during season 3 that there were going to be three 16-hour seasons (that turned into one 14- and two 17-hour seasons because of the writers' strike) and then the show would be done.

While the show lost its way during season 2 and the early part of season 3, once the writers knew exactly how much longer they had, it got much better.  By the end of season 3 to now (post-season 5) it has consistently been as good as, if not far better than, season 1 ever was.

But rest assured, it won't be "renewed" after next season.

Then apparently you missed the part where that was all a lie to get certain people to believe certain things.  Second season got screwed over by the writers strike.  The third season was essentially getting back on track from where season 2 went due to the writers strike.  The third season also explained where "The Company" came from and all that, so it wasn't really a rehash of season 1.  In fact, if you were really watching season 3, I don't know how you could say it was a rehash of season 1.

I'm happy to see that most of the shows I watch got renewed, but I'll definitely miss The Unit.  I'm not sure where they could've gone from last season's ending other than to have Jonas take over as The Unit leader instead of the Colonel (he got a promotion that would take him out of The Unit).  I'm surprised they renewed Scrubs.  Zach Braff was a major part of that show and his character moved to another hospital at the end of last season.  I guess they're hoping that the show can go on without him.

I've got a show I want to develop, C3PX. It's basically a bunch of slackers, working at something like a video game/toy/collectible shop, who exhaust every available resource in trying to not work. Customers are messed with time and time again, the district manager is treated to a dog and pony show with every visit, books are cooked to show that the store is profitable, and so on. All the while, employees just come in to fuck around, play with the toys at the store, and have their little episodic adventures. I happen to find lazy people funny, and lazy people making an effort to remain lazy is even funnier.

I don't know how to pitch a show or develop one, but if you or anyone else wants to help develop this idea, let me know.

Does anybody around here watch Bones?  Can anyone explain to me why they've started doing these mid-episode summarizations where they tell you what has happened so far in the episode?  I can understand doing something like that between episodes (like 24 does) and even between seasons, but they do it right in the middle of the episode now.  Honestly it's kind of annoying.  It's like they're saying "We know you're to stupid to pay attention to a one hour show, so we're going to recap the first 30 mins right now".  I don't watch that portion, but I think it's a waste of showtime/airtime to even have it.

The problem is that you really need to know, or at least be sleeping with someone to really get anywhere in the entertainment world. It is all about connections. You can imagine how many TV viewer decide since they enjoy watching movies and TV so much, they ought to give it a go themselves. The world is full of people with bad ideas, who just happen to think their ideas are absolutely brilliant. So I can only really begin to imagine what it is like to be in the position to have to sift through every submission while looking for the rare gem. Really the first step to getting any of your work looked at is to have a decent agent representing you, which isn't really all that easy.

It is no exaggeration that we are in some very serious need of decent comedies on TV. I am constantly stunned when I turn on the TV and flip through channels and witness what is being passed off a humerous these days. Ridiculous characters with exaggerated personalities and a new silly predicament each and ever episode. The characters just go on doing what they do because that is what they do. Beyond mindless entertainment. Look back at all your favorite comedy shows over your lifetime? What was the thing that kept you coming back to that show? I think most people would say that it was the characters. I think that is the key to a successful sitcom. Characters that you can really care about. Really love. Really hate. Really imagine them existing in real life. Once you have real three dimensional characters, then you can throw them into all kinds of silly and bizare situations. Most sitcoms seem to focus more on the situations than the characters, resulting in 2-D hyperbolic charicatures. And that is why probably more than 90% of all situation comedies infesting the airways and cableboxes are complete, generic crap, and only funny to a point, and even that only when you care to turn off your brain before watching.

Okay, stepping off my soap box now... So yeah, ultimately I have very little to offer you.

Lost deserves to be cancelled. It's been declining ever since the start of season 2. In season 4 it had Lost all the magic it once had. It was just this tired thing with the characters boringly retreading the exact same sort of fucking behavior they'd shown so much before and the show was still pushing things as interesting and mysterious except they weren't. I quit watching the show and I'm so glad I did. I've told people to tell me about any characters they kill off, because by the time I was finished with it I wanted most of the main characters dead. And the show kept yanking around the audience in this stupid manipulative way. And god help us, the bloody dumb Love Triangle. Puke! I got so sick of it all. And they killed off some of the few characters who actually should have been kept around. Load of shit.

I wasn't bothered by season 2 of Heroes, but I haven't seen season 3 yet.

Fortunately, most people, including the powers that be disagree with you. Sounds like you fixed your problem by not watching it any longer. Good choice. I really feel sorry for those idiots who continue to watch something they hate, and continuously bitch and moan about it.

Lost, in my opinion, is one of the few intelligently writen shows on TV today. In fact, it is literally the only currently running show I watch. And for a time travel junkie like me, the last few seasons have been a treat. And as a literature/philosophy junkie, all five season have been a treat.

With the vast sea of pure and heavily concentrated crap that contaminates the television airways, it is hard not to laugh at a comment like, "Lost deserves to be canceled."

A lot of people agree with me. They would laugh at your glowing evaluation of Lost. So it seems there's laughter all around. I think there's plenty watchable tv around. I think Lost is a show that lost (not going to bother avoiding the pun) the stuff that made it good. By mid season 4 I was so fed UP of all those main characters the writers seemed so taken by. I think if the show was working I would still have found some of them interesting. It seemed to me like they were just churning out the stuff, going through the motions based on their previous material. And as somebody who had once vigorously defended the show against its detractors I felt cheated, conned even.

Solution to disliking the direction a show takes: stop watching it.  That doesn't mean it deserves to be cancelled, especially when it's a fact that it won't be lasting longer than the next season.  Why cancel something that has a built-in end date?  House - there's a show that's run its course, and I would not care one way or the other if it gets cancelled or not since, well, I stopped watching it.  The difference is that House doesn't have a definitive end date - it can go on forever.  Lost does - the next season will be its last.

Right.  Lost is ending when it should.  When the story is finished.

Just like recently this year Battlestar Galactica ended.  But was not canceled it reached its conclusion.  That does not mean there cannot be direct to dvd features or a spinoff prequel.  Caprica is not called battlestar galactica but it is in the same universe.

Sort of reminds me of when enterprise was just called that enterprise. Then changed to star trek: Enterprise.

Then you have shows that are canceled with incomplete stories.  Journeyman, Bionic Woman, Flash Gordon etc.

I can name tons of sci fi shows but most of them deserved to be cancelled for being crap.

Except for Firefly, which is usually the exception to the rule.  I used to like Space Above and Beyond.  And hated when it was cancelled.  Nostalgia is dangerous, lol.  I recently went back and watched it on dvd and it was terrible.  Poorly acted in some places.  Badly written except for some standout episodes.  And the concept was interesting but the execution was flawed and the low budget fox imposed did not help things for Glenn Morgan and James Wong.  They did excellent work on the X-files.  But then went on to make that bad trilogy of final destination films.

Then you have shows that just stayed on the Air no matter what like E.R. that recently came to an end but should have been canceled once all the stars left the show.  The show only concluded after the author passed away.  Michael Crichton.  Which is also a main reason they won't do Jurassic Park IV.

Space Above and Beyond wasn't really well made, but it was sincere and heartfelt. Whereas Firefly is too concerned with being clever clever and hip and cool and is all flip, with insufficient real feeling and with uninvolving characters. And don't get me started on Mal Reynolds -I hate the bastard. Serenity was worse, totally crapped on everything that was good in Firefly. I've got as much issues with Joss Whedon as I have with Georgie Lucas.

When a show has turned to crap it's a waste of money and resources and acting and should be cut short, not allowed to continue on until its planned ending.

Joss Whedon if you wathed Buffy which had huge amounts of star wars references and JJ Abrams is also a lucasite.

I agree with some of your issues with firefly and serenity.  I think Whedon was trying for either a space western.  Just like Star Trek.  These days it is hardly possible for these hollywood types not to copy Lucas or Roddenberry.

Opinionated little cuss ain't ya? Sorry to tell you this pal, but countless resources are wasted on things that don't make a difference in your life everyday. For example, I am sure somewhere in the US there is an obese man buying a super sized extra value meal at McDonald's. I haven't been to McDonald's in years, but I am guessing this fat man is paying somewhere around $7 bucks for this meal. Doesn't that just burn you up Vaderisnohayden? Talk about a waste of money and resources. This fat SOB enjoys his hamburger, fries, and drink and you and I get absolutely nothing out of it! Alternatively, there are a bunch of people in Colorado skiing right now. All that money wasted on ski rentals, lift tickets, gas money to drive to the ski lodge. None of this does anything for me, yet money and resources are being wasted. Pisses me the hell off I tell ya! How dare other people put money and resources into something I do like, or receive no enjoyment from! It is an outrage!!!! Dammit!! koerioeqrgioenqjrgiov'nqocnqeroiweqfoince Man, I am so pissed!!!!

Huge amounts?  Dude, do you actually watch the shows you bitch about?  I have all 7 seasons of Buffy on DVD and there's maybe a reference or two to Star Wars in each season.  So that'd be about 7 references in 7 years.  Yeah, sure, they had the occasional halloween episode that would have someone dressed in a costume (Luke and Leia making out in season 6 I think, may have been 5), but it's hardly filled with references.  The way you talk, you'd think Joss Whedon doesn't have an original idea of his own.

FireFly/Serenity had about as much in common with Star Trek as Buffy did.  Star Trek is not a space western.  It may have been referred to as "a wagon train in space" but that was more to do with seeking out new civilizations and colonizing planets than being a western.  Serenity/FireFly is more like a group of rebels constantly on the run from an overly controlling central government, which is nothing like Star Trek.

Joss Whedon may not be the best writer in the world, but he can write some pretty funny stuff.  Most of what made Buffy and FireFly so good were the one liners and the action.  Hell, the single greatest episode of Buffy had almost no dialogue (Hush) with the second best episode being the musical (Once More, With Feeling).

From what I've heard, and I can't remember where I heard it but it was from someone that works in Hollywood and sees how many shows come in and get greenlit, somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 shows get pitched every year and maybe 20 get picked up (basically, the new shows you see each year are what gets picked up).  That's less than 10%.  Of those shows, something like half get cancelled after their first season.  So maybe 10 out of 300 shows go on to two or more seasons.

When a show has turned to crap it's a waste of money and resources and acting and should be cut short, not allowed to continue on until its planned ending.

And that post is supposed to mean something because... ? Maybe you should spend less time mocking people for having different views from you.

I get pissed off about fuckups in art. When a show has spat on its previous quality like Lost has, then it deserves to be cut off and not allowed continuation. Simple as that. Lost deserves the axe. So many far better shows have been cut off in the past. Why should a load of shit like Lost continue when they didn't? I couldn't care less about burgers or skiing, but I do give a damn about shows. If you don't like that, well that's your problem. We are not all obligated to think by the C3PX Rules Of Acceptable Thought.

I don't like it when a shit excuse for art gets success while the good stuff gets cut off. I'm well aware that shit is popular and that you can expect it to succeed, but that doesn't mean I should be happy about the situation. I don't follow the "don't feel" school of thought in living my life. I care about art and I give a damn about quality levels. There's too much shit being passed off as art, or bad art being passed off as good art. Lost is a show that's ceased to make an effort and has turned to working on autopilot. I'm sick of its arrogance, its manipulativeness and its stupidity.

As for calling me opinionated, that's rich coming from you.
