The trailer looks fantastic, as everybody else has commented. I loved the ambient light on Luke's face from the lightsaber - a nice touch that adds alot to the scene. Hope you decide to do it in a few other places as well. And I was blown away by the new cloud city reveal.

Like others, I'm sad to see the tie fighter lasers go. Regarding a comment made about the ties maybe firing at the asteroids instead of the falcon, the problem I see with that is that I'd imagine it could become even more dangerous if ties were firing at the asteroids. My guess would be that the lasers would not completely destroy the asteroids and clear a path, as much as they would just shatter the rocks into thousands of smaller pieces that would be even more likely to smash into. Therefore, I would think that the ties would try to avoid hitting the asteroids as opposed to firing on them.

I do agree that ties have certainly fired on the falcon in the past - look at ANH when the falcon makes it's escape from the Death Star. Tarkin wants to track the falcon to the Rebel base, but that doesn't seem to stop the ties from firing on it just the same. Of course, if Adywan feels that the scene is too cluttered, or otherwise distracting, that I can totally understand.

Anyways, happy belated-belated birthday, Ady. Good luck with the Ebay thing. Overall, I've had great experiences through them, but I did get burned once really bad. I bought an item cash (I know, dumb move) because that's all they accepted, and that should have tipped me off, but it was for my girlfriend for Christmas. The seller never shipped the item, and ignored my responses. But Ebay didn't help because it wasn't done through Paypal. So I was out by $75. As long as you used Paypal you should have recourse.

Okay, here are a few frames from the shot that bothers me the most, hopefully to put it into a better perspective.

As you can see, now that the progress of this shot is more apparent, rather than just the single freeze frame I posted before, this shot has always bothered me because it makes the Falcon look EXTREMELY tiny in the first frame of the shot. I know it should be small compared to the Star Destroyer, but when this shot is compared to the MANY  other shots that contain the Falcon and the SD in the same frame, this looks completely inaccurate. The Falcon seems to me to be way too small in this shot. Either that, or the SD is way too big.

Compare with this shot, which is the only one that has a near-side view, which helps visualize the size difference:

Ady, I'm curious, do you have any plans to address the issues with this sequence? I hate how the size differences between the Falcon and the SD are inconsistent between shots.

You know what would be funny for an easter egg?  If Ady threw in that clip of Vader being an asshole.  I think you all know what I mean.

That was hilarious. I never saw it before. I just broke out loud in laughter.

Ady, Considering the snowstorm tauntaun should not cast hard shadows. Even better not at all.

Han's shadow is animated too.

Considering that are two different elements the snow at taun's feet have too much definition compare with the other.

I added some haze/fog and more snow detail to smooth the transition.

See? no more blue :D

Edit: Luke sees the AT-AT from the right but Dack sees it at the same angle in the next shot, which is wrong(?)

Now 005 is good time to say : thank god that Angel was missing from ANH:R :P

Actually. The Speeder is set up in a way to were it is ALMOST correct. The ATAT is in the wrong spot. see luke is facing this way > dack is facing this way < so they are  like this <ATST> so its almost right. The atat just needs some scooting .

The speeder and walker are both moving, remember?  Obviously both vehicles positions are going to shift a touch while Luke and Dack are saying their lines.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Check that 1st Adywan clip I posted again, vaderios.

I believe it IS the 'interior' of the 'Bridge' that is shaking, rather than the exterior....

Based on what you post i made that clip ;)

The exterior is moving along with the interior :)

-Angel

But isn't that how it would look?  Usually when "camera shake" is involved, it is supposed to infer that "you" are the camera POV and are thus being put into the action.  Thus, if the bridge shakes, everything is going to shake from your POV, including what is outside the window(s).

On another note:
Ady; I know this was brought up @ 100 pages back or so, but the scene looking out the Falcon's cockpit window when Han says "Yes, I see them!  2 Star Destroyers..." (0:17 to 0:19), is there any way to make the SDs slightly bigger and/or show they speeding up and actually manuevering into position to give them some more life (as opposed to 2 fairly static dots)?

Also consider how close the SDs are at 0:30 to 0:35, as in: even if they start out at the distance we first see them, in order to have them THAT close to the Avenger at 0:30, shouldn't we see those 2 far-off SDs moving VERY FAST towards the Falcon in order to explain how they closed in so fast?

Not to mention:

It's just a time lag issue, as in: the time the camera takes to cut from Luke to Dack, the snow speeder they are in is already moving past the same AT-AT, so there is nothing wrong with the scene (unless you want to add some clouds or more blue to it).  >:)

Yeah, the background AT-AT is only wrong if you assume that the camera rotated 180 degrees- instead, it just slid a few feet back to Dack. Hehe- that rhymes. :P

I see that now, thanks.

Clouds are cool :) Blue is even better lol

Adywan, have you come to a conclusion yet of what dialogue you are going to have in the Emperor scene? I think that it needs be to changed. As it stands now, the Emperor wants Luke dead until Vader suggests he could be turned. But in ROTJ, the emperor acts like it was his master plan all along to turn Luke at the expense of Vader. I hope you don't listen to George Lucas's commentary in the '04 DVDs because it doesn't make any sense. He claims that Vader wants Luke to kill the Emperor and the Emperor wants Luke to kill Vader. The way I always saw it was the Emperor wanted to turn Luke at the expense of Vader and Vader wanted Luke to join them and there was none of this "only a master and apprentice" stuff. This has been discussed before in the General Star Wars forum.

Watch the trailer, dude.  The entire conversation is heard, played throughout the trailer.

I quite like the idea of the Sith doing this dance of death with each other (it's one of the few prequel ideas I liked).

The apprentice always seeking a chance to overthrow his master with the aid of a young apprentice and the master always trying to hold onto power via the same mechanism makes for a very delicately balanced relationship which could go one for a very long time.

It would have been very easy for Lucas to have just match thousands of Jedi against thousands of Sith but he (un-characteristically) pulled back from that, and a lot of fan expectations to give us something more subtle and diplomatically elegant.

That and using a fake war working from both sides to weaken the Republic and give rise to the Empire were far too intelligent to be in the movies we actually got.

And the good thing about Ady's reworked dialogue is that it doesn't beat the audience over the head with that subtle concept.

The DVD version is like a comedian working out the most clever joke in the world only to spend several minutes explaining the punchline and destroying the impact.

I have said that time and time again. It is quite true. They honestly made the SE's for 4 year old kids that need Dora The Explorer explanations. Of course alot of people that watch movies now a days are kind of retarded. We like shiney things and explosions now and we need things to be dumbed-down for us. Every movie I have seen recently has no plot and uses it's effects as a selling point. Horror movies are basically the same concept as a 10 year old boy holding a bug in his little sisters face. Back when effects were near impossible to do they had to push on plot and acting ability. Not any more.

It didn't bother me that Palpatine said "the one who destroyed the death star"  that shows he knew what Luke did, and how powerful he could be. Then again, I guess we could assume the Emperor knew that without him stating it.

Judging from robot chicken he was very pissed.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but isn't 1280x544 2.35:1? Sure looks that way to me.

It looks like your "mplayer" is even reporting the correct file info....must be a problem with the linux version of mplayer.

There's nothing wrong with mplayer (ffmpeg). And yes, it should be 2.35:1, that's the whole problem.

The header claims that the video is 16:9 (1.78:1), but it's not.

Gstreamer also respects the header btw. It's not very hard to just force it to use the correct a/r, but yeah, it'd be nice if the headers were correct ;-)

there has to be something conflicting with the header on your system. could be a codec issue as mentioned. you can use MediaInfo to check all the details of video file. here's a screenshot of the info for the trailer:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

as you can see the header is correct.

check again because there is nothing wrong with them.

I dont see lights...

-Angel

I've already added the force glow to Obi-Wan on Hoth. I mentioned it a short while ago.

As for vaders lights i thought you meant the shot of vader in the trailer . having looked at this scene now i can see what you men. i guess they forgot to turn the lights on his chest plate for the shots in the lift.

well i have a bit of news about the Falcon, and it isn't good. Finally the seller has decided to contact me and Paypal. He said that it was posted 2 weeks ago and that the post office has mislaid it. He has sent proof of postage to Paypal and they are satisfied that he has indeed posted it and closed the claim. Now the bad news is that he sent it via uninsured mail which has really fucked me off because the post office offers almost nothing in compensation when sent uninsured. it doesn't mater how valuable the item is supposed to be all they will offer me is £30 for losing it. The seller had proof that he had contacted the post office prior to contacting me to find out where it is and they can find no trace of it. So that's it. the falcon is gone. I'm really pissed off at the seller for sending something so valuable without the postal insurance just to save a couple of pounds (which the amount in postage i paid would have more than covered this). So this has set me back a lot now.

D: That's terrible news. Always, ALWAYS spend the extra bit on shipping insurance (that's to the seller, not to you). How much money did you lose?

Well Is there an alternative? What can we do? How much money exactly did you lose? What about the "He was in the hospital" story? Does it coincide with the date of the item being sent?

Are we sure about this? I can't believe that mplayer/ffmpeg is just imagining this up out of thin air! Where should this info come from if not somewhere from within the file? Maybe someone with more experience than me can find out more?

... and i dont want to go on the dev-mailing list  of mplayer with something trivial like this (oss devs can get kind of annoyed ;)

PS: ... and btw: I hate this 'visual' post writing editor. Is there a way to activate/see the usual 'code' based editing as known from other forums? ("[quote]" etc. instead of these visual blocks, which i seem to be incapable of managing ;) Or maybe i'm the only one having a hard time inserting a quote at the right point or deleting a image/quote from a block.

Maybe this should be worked into ESB:R... instead of taking off to Bespin, our heros can simply evade the Empire by listing themselves on ebay and getting lost in the mail... brilliant!

I really am sorry to hear that though, ady... can you follow this up with the post office?
