Imperial, looking really nice so far. Good job.

Quick question, does the Paramount Logo fade into anything similar in shape?

Keep up the good work. The part I'm REALLY looking forward to is the next bit, from the trunk to the warehouse. Looking forward to it.

I am brand new to this thread. Can we get rid of the marriage sequence and just end it with them on the rocks cue the raiders march. That is the scene that made me want to puke

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. Now I want to do my own edit. I will be stealing ideas from you guys but I want to do my own thing. I will be

Adding some fog to some scenes (indiana jones always used foggy sets except in this one)

The Marriage Scene...... GONE

I am gonna start the end credits on the ruins of the temple. I am sorry for you guys who like it but Indiana Jones always ended with you guessing were is indy going now? SO we do not need the marriage Plus it makes me sick to see.

I will be doing colour changes (not correction) but changes to make it fit with the other movies. Come on it is over saturated and just to fake looking like the star wars prequels.

I am gonna cut down on some of the filler scenes a little. I am also gonna make Mutt more of a sidekick than another jones.

I am going to use some of the old music too. Especially when it shows the Temple I want to play something from the old soundtracks.

I am gonna give the film more of a 1980's look (well its gonna look as good as the dvd's of the 80's movies.

I am gonna start the movie like the others (no introductions)

Indy will no longer be an old cheesy guy. He will be an aged Indiana Jones.

Overall the film will be the same I am just trimming some fat off of this pig.

Any one interested in this PM me or we can chat right on here.

I will be stealing ideas from you guys not because I want credit But this is really for my personal viewing pleasure even though I will be releasing it to the public. Free of charge FTW

Always glad to see more edits coming. Lord knows this movie needs it.

Couple questions:

1. Are you keeping the nuke scene? (I am others aren't)

2. Do you have any ideas on fixing the climax?

3. Are you going to try and cut Ox out as much as possible? (hate him)

4. In which scenes are you planning on adding fog? (looking forward to seeing this)

5. What is the ETA of your edit?

Also, I'd love to hear more details about how you are gonna bring a true old Indy to the forefront and put Mutt on the sidelines a bit more.

I never had a problem with it so YES.

2. Do you have any ideas on fixing the climax?

I am throwing around some ideas. I was thinking of the alien statues just forming a beam of light and then the UFO flies off but less cgi. Looked way to odd.

3. Are you going to try and cut Ox out as much as possible? (hate him)

He stays a main character but his childish antics ARE GONE FOR GOOD.

4. In which scenes are you planning on adding fog? (looking forward to seeing this)

Mostly temple and jungle scenes. It would make the movie more Indy like.

5. What is the ETA of your edit?

I am not to sure but it will be shorter.

Also, I'd love to hear more details about how you are gonna bring a true old Indy to the forefront and put Mutt on the sidelines a bit more.

Indiana is not getting married. I am gonna cut down on some of the awkward filler scenes. Indy will not be an old washed up guy as much. And the snake scene is gonna be cut down to a scared face and eyes closed.

Mutt Is not gonna have as many wise guy lines. He has a big mouth which puts him in the front line. So cutting down some of his dialogue will help.

The vine scene will be way shorter. And the sword fight will be a short one. Indiana Jones doesnt need a fast paced sword fight.

I am gonna try to cut down on the references of the other movies (george has a problem with that in movies)

I dont want to introduce anybody. None of those just like old times lines.

Overall the music will make a huge difference in the movie. I will use some songs from previous movies besides the raiders march which will be used less. It might end up only being in the end credits.

Color correction is very necessary. The color of the film looked terrible. The jungle scenes will be way less saturated. I dont care if people want the colors to pop. They look fake. And some de_saturation will at least make the film look like the remasters of the trilogy. This is something I am gonna work on for a while.

The intro of the film will have no 50's elvis music. I will use one of the songs from the previous movies. The film will be different in many ways. Their is so much that is going to be cut I may extened the beginning slightly.

When they go to the temple of the crystal skull their will be a slower extablishing shot with new music. \

The alien scene is going to be hard to work on but I can do something about it. I am going to use Adobe After Effects on most of it.

Sorry. I meant when do you expect the edit to be done or to have clips to post?

You have some really good ideas here. I would definitely look to Info's (and hell my own) edit for ideas. Laser is doing amazing work as well. Someone did an edit that totally gets rid of Mutt getting caught up in the vines (maybe Info? i think) anyway its awesome.

Also, what are your thoughts on the truck in tree and waterfalls and the awkward Marion laughing with the steering wheel scene after the waterfalls? (I hated it)

Also hated the awkward dialog between Indy, Mac and Spalko in the beginning.

Again, a lot of this material set a 'tone' at the beginning of the movie, that I didn't care for.

I'll put my preferred re-structuring of this whole sequence and dialogue up as soon as I can, starting from where I left off recently.

Well hopefully before the year is over. I do editing but i have never done anything this big.

You have some really good ideas here.

It didn't even occur to me when I saw the movie to edit it until I saw this thread. I have been caught up in Adywan's Empire Strikes Back Revisited.

I would definitely look to Info's (and hell my own) edit for ideas

My version will be alot like the others fan edits. I am stealing ideas and mixing them with my own.

Laser's color correction pics on the front page made me decide to do it. The pics looked great so I will be going for that look.

Also, what are your thoughts on the truck in tree and waterfalls and the awkward Marion laughing with the steering wheel scene after the waterfalls? (I hated it)

The waterfall scene is going to be tough but I might be able to do something. Marion laughing could easily just be chopped up. Even silencing her laugh to were its like a silent snicker would work.

Also hated the awkward dialog between Indy, Mac and Spalko in the beginning.

It needs to be shortened somewhat I need to watch it again seeing as I hate it so much I dont watch it very often I think Ive only seen it 2 times. So I am going to watch it tomorrow and think of what I can do. It is going to be hard to make a smooth movie because so much is being cut and I fear it being choppy.

I was hoping to get some screencaps posted but work is going to be postponed until I can get After Effects to stop being so buggy.

Sucks to hear you're having technical issues. Hope you get them sorted out soon...

Also, just got finsihed watching Last Crusade for the ...oh... 200th time i guess. Man that movie has great music. You planning on using the "Penitent Man" theme anywhere?

I will be using a lot of the songs from the Last Crusade and the Temple Of Doom. The elvis song playing at the beginning of the film will just be another element in the scene. So it will be their just toned down and really as if it were heard outside of the car. Their will be music at the beginning which I am not disclosing for now. It will have a dark intro so it will work nicely.

First I thought the KOTCS music was not that good, but the more I hear it, the more I like it.

The "penitent theme" from Crusade is great but I would not want to hear it in Indy 4. Just my two cents, it does not mean it could not work well. It's just too "Indy 3" for me. The only musics that I personaly would use in a Indy 4 edit are from Raiders. Cause every sequels keep some main themes from Raiders and add their own to it. I don't think an addition of ALL previous movies would be that great.

That said, an edit is the vision of the editor. Do as you wish, always.

And the great thing is you have your pick of which version you want. A lot of the people here are Raiders nuts that would probably use alot of the raiders music.

If your goal is to make a "true" Indy movie, as it could have been released by Spielberg and Lucas (only trying to have a better cut), I think you should NOT use TOD or Crusade music. Because I don't think it fits "Indy canons" to use other sequels musics (maybe I'm wrong but I can't remember a TOD music in Crusade). And even the Ark theme in Crusade is only used as a quick hommage. Same thing for the Crusade music on the picture of Connery in Indy 4.

But if your goal is trying to make the film better from your point of view, no matter what,  and if you think music from TOD and Crusade would be cool, I'd say why not.

Actually the way things are going I wont be making an edit anytime soon so I guess I will have to wait and give support to the other fan editors.

One thing I'm thinking that might help the tension of the retracting steps scene is to show the impaled soldiers at the bottom right after we hear the stairs start to retract. From what I recall, the official KOTCS doesn't show the impaled people until everyone is safely on the ground. If my memory is correct, that was a pretty stupid editing choice.

On a completely different note, my mounted RotLA poster for my theater room just came in today. It looks awesome! I'm psyched!

For the ending, is it possible to keep the aliens as skeletons? The CG alien looked incredibly bad.

Yeah, I've always thought that cutting out all sightings of the CG alien, and instead just having the skeletons encircle Spalko, would be the best scenario. As well as losing poorly executed CGI, I think it would also improve the film's pacing/build-up. With the CG alien removed, it means that the UFO at the finale is the big pay-off, and the one excusable CGI spectacle at the film's end (rather than the otherwise two); also, the UFO wasn't anywhere near as poor looking as the alien was, and I didn't really mind it at all.

Plus, actually showing the alien seemed like overkill; the alien is hinted at in the warehouse at the start of the film, then is practically revealed in the tent (though is still obscured with a blanket, and then shadows, resulting in a more satisfactory and real-looking alien, and also adds some slight mystique). But revealing a fully-fledged and highly-detailed CG alien in close-up at the end was gilding the lilly, I thought, and felt unnecessary.

I'd imagine editing out the  CG alien entirely could be tricky, though.

Did you make Indy's hair brown on purpose?

I don't know if old Indy with brown hair would look too natural.

Author
Time

Yes I did. He is supposed to be in his fifties. My dad is about 54 and he doesn't look like that. So darkening his hair helped alot. I know its crude but I could honestly do that through the whole movie. And it works because I could make it more natural than if harrison used a box of just for men.

I don't understand the example.  It's Harrison's real hair color.  So what if your dad isn't grey yet?
