Hey Ady - i mentioned this before, but did you ever look into the magazine series that is out that includes a small but detaled model with each edition 'The Official Starships & Vehicles collection'. These model are probably not ideal for some shots (close-ups), but will be good to use for others and allows you a cheap and cheerful way to get various models used in the movies

yeh, i saw those at our local newsagents last year. i didn't bother getting them though but i see the models are popping up on ebay all the time.

Speaking of models, and this may fall into the category of "killing a fly with a sledgehammer", but at a sci-fi model convention I went to over the weekend, there's a guy who just started producing a studio scale (or maybe larger) Twin Pod Cloud Car.  Thing's gotta be about 24w x 18d.  It would be perfect for creating whatever cloud car shots you wanted to straighten out the various Cloud City flyovers.  Down side - $400...PLUS shipping.

yeh, that would be a bit of overkill for me to buy one of those for one or two brief shots.

So, no one else noticed the bad compositing/outlines of Lando, Leia and Chewie on the balcony? I'm sure it's ILM's fault and not Ady's, but is there any way to fix it? It sticks out.

these are all problems with the original elements. there isn't much i can do without having all the separate elements and re-composite them i'm afraid.

But it it possible to just slightly tone down the blurriness, especially around C-3PO? I mean, you did add the blur, right?

it isn't blur, it's feathering. the feathering is set to 1 which is its lowest setting. the main problem is that ILM did a piss poor rotoscoping of the original elements and without having the OUT in HD theres nothing i can do to fix this. Plus it will look a bit more blurry in the trailer because it isn't the final render. i was changing the sky while i was doing the trailer and i didn't get everything finished in time ( same with the bridge shot at the end) so i can guarantee you it doesn't look blurry in the final render

ady, a couple questions for ya:

1) how exactly did the added TIE fighter lasers cause problems in the asteroid chase sequence?

2) where'd you get the 2 "yes's" from for the Emperor's new dialogue?  Sounds great.

1 ) i can't really put my finger on it but the TIEs firing just seemed out of place and a little too chaotic. I think in an asteroid field the TIE pilots would be concentrating more on avoiding the asteroids than checking their targeting display. the TIEs only seem to start firing when they are close to the large asteroids surface and i think this works better. so the lasers are definitely gone.

2) its actually the same "yes" i just did some tweaking to it to get it to sound different

Please keep the tie fighter that gets its left wing clipped and it does the Wha da da da da da da da BOOM thing even if you reshoot please let it do that. I have always loved that even for the sound. I listen to the asteroid chase on the ESB soundtrack and hear it in my head. Just keep it please.

The "Electric TIE fighter" scene? i agree it should no MUST be kept

where did this come from? i have never said i will be getting rid of that shot at all.

There is one addition in the trailer that I find a little bit silly, though. That is that the Echo Base gun turret shoots after the Snowspeeders after they have passed it.

  • The gun turret fires very close to where you would extrapolate the snowspeeders to fly.
  • The snowspeeders have yet some time to reach the AT-AT walkers. So, the AT-AT's would still be quite far from the gun turret. Right?

why is it silly? the speeders are right by the trench as you can see in the next shot and the turrets by the trenches are firing so why not the first one? it would be sillier to be just sitting there doing nothing when the rebels are deep in battle.

Ok:

Something that is interesting.

I was looking the mattes and the live action sets and they have some differences.

I tried to match as match i could with both ways to make the thing work.

the mates have already been fixed so the bridge matches in all shots. i updated the screenshots on the first page earlier today so you can see what's been done.

I noticed that you have done something similar to my matte Angel in the sections where the officers are standing. one thing though. The top section of the alcove you added is slightly wrong. it is too wide at the top which has changed the shape of the outer edge of the alcove. it should follow the line of the original as you can see here:

Just for clarification, the shot vaderios showed of the 'Bridge' is from the 'fleet massing' near the beginning of the movie, whereas Adywan's shot that is shown is from the end of the movie.  And Adywan has deliberately 'flipped' it.

Which i dont understand...

I mean im with ady to flip the officers, but why the whole bridge?

he is going to flip it again at the beggining?

-Angel

yes mine is from the end of the movie. At the time i posted the original screengrab the mattes were just work in progress just so i can work out all the continuity of the scene. it was flipped because Piette changes sides throughout the final scene but i needed to go through every shot of the bridge to work out what the matte should finally look like and to enable the matte to be flipped without looking like it is. the bridge will be correct throughout the movie.

Thx  Impfighter you reminded me an idea i had.

As i see in Ady's video he added a camera shake when the SDs are colliding..

But!

It supposed to be shaking in the bridge not the outside.

So with a bit work can keep the SD in the outside intact.

I  ve made this test:

Dont judge the shaking, i just put it to show my idea ;)

-Angel

I'm keeping the camera shake as it is. the one thing that always looks fake, even though it would be scientifically correct, is when anything outside a window doesn't shake along with the foreground. Its something to do with how our brain perseeves the motion.

I hope Ady got his server issues settled, I hope they didn't cut him off.

well i've had to use dial-up for the past few days but thankfully its all sorted now.

still no luck with the ebay seller. Stil no replies and still no model. I've now put a claim into paypal but god knows how long that is going to take. one things that i did notice though is that he no longer has any items for sale after i emailed him saying that if he didn't reply this time i was putting in a claim. people have received items that they purchased from him after i won the falcon so why the hell is he ignoring me and hasn't sent my model? maybe he's a trekkie. lol. but this has set me back a bit now
