I also don't think it's necessary to add any 'engine glow' power down, etc. to tell the viewer "LOOK HERE!!!" One of the nice things about the shot is that you don't necessarily see the Falcon right away. When you finally notice it for the first time, you get that sense of "oh, there they are," and "I can see why the Empire wouldn't even notice them, since I didn't." An engine glow would stick out and draw the viewer's attention to the Falcon too quickly.
I 've gotta agree 100% we all know the falcon is there, they're HIDING and trying to avoid detection and sensors of the star destroyer, why put flashing lights and engine glows pointing to where they are hiding? It seems like a very Lucas Prequal approach to make it bleeding obvious to the uninformed viewer, it's a much nicer reveal if the Falcon appears camouflaged at first.
I'm pretty sure that in the radio adaption they had to power off completely to avoid being sensed , it added to the tension of the scene.
