Regarding the continuity issue with the Cloud City fly-through/Leia apartment shots, could you simply do something like this ady?

With Leia's building lowered and the cloud car platform moved to the foreground a bit more, it seems to jive with the shot that follows it, no?

Even if the continuity were fixed by doing this, I realize lowering the apartment may not look too good in terms of composition.  I suppose some background buildings could be added, though, just to balance the shot out.

Ady: Are you going to add any lights to match with the previous shots?

That looks great, are you contributing to this project with Adywan? Is Adywan referencing your work? Or are you just doing your own thing vaderios?

Okay, here are a few frames from the shot that bothers me the most, hopefully to put it into a better perspective.

As you can see, now that the progress of this shot is more apparent, rather than just the single freeze frame I posted before, this shot has always bothered me because it makes the Falcon look EXTREMELY tiny in the first frame of the shot. I know it should be small compared to the Star Destroyer, but when this shot is compared to the MANY  other shots that contain the Falcon and the SD in the same frame, this looks completely inaccurate. The Falcon seems to me to be way too small in this shot. Either that, or the SD is way too big.

Compare with this shot, which is the only one that has a near-side view, which helps visualize the size difference:

Well seeing as Ady is building a star destroyer and he has a fine molds falcon. Some work might be done to it. To me the falcon in those shots look like it was pasted in their when actually that is not to far from the truth.

corellian77 -  I see that you re-positioned the 'cloud-car platform' IN FRONT of the 'tall, fat building' in your top mock-up above.  Nice tweak.  That was yet another poorly placed element in the current SE shot, compared to the bottom shot that came after it.

Unfortunately, the positioning of the 'tall, fat building' still seems in a different position to 'Leia's building' between the 2 shots, as things currently stand.  It looks like it's somewhat in front of where 'Leia's apartment' would be in the shot above, but somewhere in the distance slightly behind and at the side of 'Leia's apartment' in the shot that comes afterwards.

I recently suggested removing the 'rising cloud-car' and 'platform' from one of the shots (ideally the one in the SE shot seen here), to imply there were 2 similar 'tall, fat buildings' nearby 'Leia's building' (one in front, and one slightly behind at the side), as a possible alternative.  However, if Adywan decides to keep things much the same (although I'd like your tweak to the 'cloud-car platform's position if possible), then my alternative way of looking at the existing positioning of the 'tall, fat building, will be to imagine that 'Leia's buildiing' is actually WIDER than it seems from the angle we see it, and that the the top section where you removed the 'spires' is actually somewhere to the REAR of where Leia's 'corner' apartment is really situated!  This gives me the impression that the 'tall, fat building' seen in both shots is slightly behind and to the side of 'Leia's building....  :)

It's a moving shot unfortunately, and tricky to alter, so barring cutting before we get to this point (which would kinda spoil the flow of the SE shot), it won't be a biggie to me at the end of the day.

What do you think? Should I paint a mock-up?

YES!!!

OK then.

The mock-up is a little bit messy, but I hope that I can get the idea across.

I think that it would be easiest to change anything in this shot only because it is a static painting with overlayed elements and not a flying camera.

Leia's apartment mockup

The "fat building" behind the platform has been lowered to align the platform's height with that seen in the previous shot. The alignment is also better with the round-topped structure to the left of the fat building.

The "Tyrell Corp" building has been heightened and move to the back. Leia's apartment is now in a separate tower, outcropping from the main structure, but lower than it.

By the way, having a higher building behind Leia's tower would also help continuity with a shot later when Lando enters the apartment by walking down a flight of stairs into the room and we get to see the corridor outside being at a higher level.

A large building in the far back has been reinserted from the O-OT to add depth in the image. (it looks bad here because I cut and pasted from OOT and Adywan's color-corrected SE)

Nice one Darth Lars, as that gives a good idea of one of the possible outcomes that I liked, giving the impression that Leia's apartment would now be on the 'corner' of the building (near the top), but unseen by us in the preceding SE shot.  The top of the building (the whole overall structure in fact) would now seem WIDER, and tie-in better with where the 'tall, fat building' has been placed in the 2 shots.

The only thing I'd say at this point, is that I'd prefer to see the existing 'slanted' building detail underneath Leia's window kept as it is, but maybe add JUST A HINT (a thin 'sliver' only) of the uppermost 'slanted' building top (which has the wine-coloured stripe along it), into the far-right of the frame above Leia's window.

Something to keep in mind with the way you currently have it, is that we would end up being able to see your high added section through the ceiling shots that come afterwards, if kept like this.

The building above Leia's apartment is the rest of the main building (the one we see to the left of the screen in the preceding aerial shot).  I believe Darth Lars was showing how physically separating the apartment and moving it down the side of the building could help with the continuity issues.  However, the apartment still appears to be too high up (it looks like it's still near the top, and that it's only been moved down maybe 10 ft.).

Its an interesting efford to one who havent noticed yet.

Thanks for the link! That's probably the coolest thing I've seen on SW.com for a while. I played around with the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter theme for about 10 minutes, imagining a battle :)

If they release more soundbites (they're free of music), this could be a great resource for building a soundtrack for a fanedit.

Um wow.  I thought my AT&T Ringtones were awesome, but this is a whole new level of usefulness!

If these (the ones at starwars.com) are new and will be useful for fan edits....is there a way to download them?

If you use Audacity, you can record right from your computer.  Quiet everything else, start recording, and push all the buttons in a row, then save it and split them up.

I have an idea..

In that room where Leia is in, would it be possible to add windows on the sides providing a nice view of the city?  We don't really see much of the city from inside a window, especially from a building that's high up

Author
Time

Heres an idea, I know the exterior window shot is an establishing shot for the apartment scene buyt what if we removed the windows entirely? Just make it part of the building? That way there is no discontinuity with Leias apartment or the window in the roof becuase its obviously some other building that Leia is in. Im not even sure I like this idea but it popped in my brain so Im throwing it out there.

sgdelta1771, most of the shots of the interior set of Leia's apartment are moving shots, and impractical to add window scenes to, and possibly near impossible.

The interior also has different entrances that various characters enter into the room from.  (albeit with some continuity issues concerning the current layout of the exterior of the building itself)

There are plenty of shots out various other windows along the way, where we see the cityscape from quite a high vantagepoint surely?
