Great work. Where is that cover image from?

Author

I believe it's from a set of PAL VHS.

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em

It was from the final set of P&S PAL OUT VHS sets.

I've got the Executor tin set with prints of that art set inside.

Hey, what kind of paper do you guys print your DVD covers on? I printed mine on just standard paper, but it looks shitty because the colors bleed a little and the paper gets wrinkly from the heavy ink coating. What kind of paper do you recommend printing a DVD cover on for close-as-retail-covers possible?

I use a resume paper coz it is thick and doesnt bleed. I also use other papers but resume paper is good. It really all depends on what kind of printer you use. I wish I had a laser printer

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

lol. yeah I break out the good stuff for good movies. But usually if a movie is just average it gets an average cover LOL. I need to go out and get some glossy paper coz ANH R is just a cd case with sharpie marker art LOL

If someone would want a particular VHS/LD cover made into a DVD, just ask .. I've got some time to do some ..

I had a dream last night (this goes somewhere, honestly). I saw an ad for the OT on Blu-Ray with pictures of the covers - each had the upper body of a principal character in front of a scene from the movie (the Death Star in space, Hoth, and Endor). I don't know how good it would look, but there's an idea if anyone wants to run with it.

I too had a dream the OT came out on blu ray and it was perfect with flawless picture and crystal sound. Then I woke up and cried coz the box set I was holding turned out to be a throw pillow. I hate dreams were I get things I want coz when I wake up their not their. Just like waking up and Jennifer Love Hewit is not their =(

Can anyone here help me out with a font?

I'm trying to put together matching ESB and Jedi versions of my Star Wars UK rental VHS cover (http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-DVD-Covers/post/347811/#post347811 ), but of course this will necessitate the creation of all-new text (as opposed to 'simply' scanning what was on the original).

The font I would need for the cover credits is Serif Gothic Bold, or failing that, the free equivalent Serenade Two Bold - I'm having a heck of a time actually obtaining either of them.

If anyone has either of these, I'd be very grateful - just send me a PM. Cheers :)

Well, here's the retro VHS-style Empire cover that never was:

As before, best in a white amaray:

If you like it, get it here.

Big thanks to Sluggo for the font support!

wow! that must be my favourite ESB cover ever! the names at the bottom work really well!

mind if i pinch its design if i ever make a cover for any of the other films? ..... unless you wouldnt mind making it for me ;)

it would be interesting to some PT ones made with the concept art.

I'd love to see the same concept but with the Gone With The Wind art (I can see why the original box went for white with that poster art) the "Star Wars Saga Continues" blurb is a bit intrusive too (it could be reduced a few tads and still work).

Ben - go for it! I did Star Wars already (a few pages back) and I'll do Jedi next, but have no plans to do the prequels so feel free to have a crack. Happy to send/upload the psd file if it's any use to you.

Bingo - give me a day or so and I'll knock together a style B with the GWtW art. I came down on the side of this one initially because (a) it's my personal favourite and (b) the overall content is derived from this old rental cover, but retro-styled to look like the original Star Wars rental release, if that makes any kind of sense whatsoever.

I noted that this one had the 'Star Wars Saga Continues' text too, so I didn't feel particularly compelled to change that part...

Right, here's version B as promised:

Came out pretty well actually - good thinking, Bingowings!

Looks smart but I was thinking of the slightly less blue varient without the giant Yoda (if you have it, sadly I do not) :

Ah, like this one?

By the way, apologies to fans of the X-Wings in the top right - they were a casualty of the resizing/cropping that was needed to maintain the right proportions.

It's much nicer without Yoda, isn't it? I don't know the history of the piece, so maybe someone else can fill me in, but I assume he was added after the original theatrical run - since the cat was out of the bag, maybe they figured they could use him more in the publicity? Anyway, it's a shame he looks like such an afterthought there.

Please forgive the squishing as I haven't got the original artwork so I can't trim it to size accurately but I was thinking something along the lines of this one to match the basic look of your brilliant ANH cover:

I've never seen that variant before - it's beautiful! I can certainly trawl the net for it (though Google's not my friend today - I can't find ONE of the photos I need for the Jedi back cover in a decent enough rez).

Where'd you find it yourself?

Author
Time

I can't remember, like so many people I have a folder marked Star Wars with bits that I've dug up over the years I'll PM you what I have got but I don't think they are high enough resolution for your needs.

Hopefully someone out there has something better.

Great, let me know what you come up with. I guess I could assemble something similar from separate elements - that logo can be easily found on other poster designs, so the only trouble would be finding a Yoda-less GWtW poster with an easily-cropped logo and enough empty space for the new one. I'll have a fiddle.

I like the way it makes out that Han is laying Leia's head onto a logo shaped pillow (that old scoundrel).
