Will you be adding some colour to the emperor's hologram then?

it will have more in common with the original emperor than the Pt in colouring

So ady, what shots are you going to change with MF? only the static ones or you will use it and for some poor fly bys?

there are some fly-by shots that the falcon needs replacing.

BTW, how're the donations coming along?  Still in need of some monetary funds?

Well i'm in constant need of funds at the moment. i have managed to get the finemold Millennium fFalcon and a few materials for the sets but the donation fund has now dried up and there is still a lot more stuff  to get. once i have everything i need then the donations will be closed. And i have to say a huge thanks to everyone who has donated.

Awesome!  You could post a teaser picture of it!  Are you going to modify it, I read the paint job is a bit off...

yeh there is some modifications i will be doing to it. the model is unpainted so i will be matching the paintjob and details as close as humanly possible to the studio model ( thanks to the hundreds of photos from the exhibitions). i have to add all the lighting to the model to so there is a lot of work to be done.

The Fine Molds Falcon is not the one I was thinking of.  So, it comes in naked pieces and you have glue all the little greeblies on it?!  YOU CAN EVEN SEE IN THE TURRET PORTS AND SEE THE CHAIRS.

That's crazy!  Crazy but awesome!

I love those new pics, especially the Emporer, even tho thats old. hehe. Anyways to the thing about reflective windows on Bespin, isn't this supposed to be a "used" universe? Where not everything is sleek and shiny? I always kinda thought Cloud City was a little too clean for a used universe

I'd have thought that the Fine Molds Falcon was way too small to get any real good shots of, there are people out there building Studio Scale Replicas of the Star Wars vehicles that are far more accurate than the Fine Molds model in terms of the surface detail etc...  Is it not worth asking on Replica Prop forums for a UK based modeller who might already have a bigger version built that you could use, I know there's the transport depending on how far away etc... but it might be worth a try !

well the way the holograms were done in the OT was that they filmed the actors against the bluescreen then played that footage on a colour CRT TV which gave the hologram effect. Now for the Pt they used a computer to add the holo FX which gave them a better quality and more modern feel. so for the Pt i will be going back to the original process to redo the holograms so they have that OT feel

THANK YOU! I was planning on suggesting you do that when the time came for work on the prequels. =D

The Fine Molds Falcon has an insane amount of detail on it!  Check out the "tutorial" on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JR84jmxwL0

The base top and bottom are blank slates and all the little details need to be applied individually.  The model itself is about half the size of the shooting model.  Even though there are tons of details on the thing, flybys and in-motion shots won't matter too much.  Static shots may or may not be an issue depending on how close the camera is to the model itself.

I suppose if Ady could find a collector who owns the Master Replicas Falcon locally he may be able to arrange a day or two of shooting at the owner's house.  But, that thing is huge and not really an option to ship anywhere.  Plus, at 1800 USD, I don't suppose a lot of people own it.  200 USD for a build it yourself model is a little more cost effective.  And if you enjoy that sort of thing, building the model will make it all the more rewarding in the end!

I don't know much about scratch built models, so I don't know where to look into that.  But, you never know who's got something like that out there....

The Fine Molds MF is a great piece of work, I guess you have to see it in person to get a feeling of how detailed it is lol That vid is awesome Savage, I wish we had shows like that here in the US...

Ok, some notes for Ady and everyone else who's not intimately familiar with the FM Falcon -

It's based on the 32" Falcon FX model, almost to the point of being a perfect 1/2 scale to it.  There are some differences between the 32"er and the 5 footer, which is what most people use as the ultimate reference.  The dish on the 32" is smaller and the cockpit cone is proportioned a little differently.  Also, if you're looking at it "top down", the mandibles toe in a bit more on the 5 footer...not enough to notice in normal shots though.  While there are people who have "corrected" this, it requires major surgery and re-structuring of the kit's body...not a task to be undertaken on a whim.  (I say "corrected" because whether you consider it "wrong" is relative to which particular FX model size you consider to be the definitive Falcon.  Among modelers, that's the 5 footer.)

As far as battle damage and markings - things like blaster burns and asteroid scars aside - the kit is VERY accurate as far as the decals for the various gray and rust colored panels.  Even if you decide not to use the decals and want to do a full paint job instead, the included color reference sheet of the completed kit is virtually like having the 32"er in front of you.  You'll need to create your own hull scars with a Dremel, hobby knife and/or soldering iron.

The only other tweak I might make when I build mine is to leave the rear engine grille off and just go with the engine elements exposed, or if I'm really brave, file out all the holes to make the grillework thinner.  It feels a little too thick as is.

And, for anyone who's going to build one, get yourself a couple of highlighters.  Follow the instructions METICULOUSLY and mark off every greeblie as you glue it in place.  This kit has over 800 pieces.  It's the only way to keep track of what you're doing in between stopping points.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

While the Fine Molds Millennium Falcon is on the 'small' side, it is the best model you can get for the money. It has gotten great reviews from modelers on its attention to detail and ESB movie accuracy. It doesn't even compare to the cheaper Revell model. While it's Not 100% perfect, you wont find a better model for $200. Now, the Master Replica Studio Scale MF is much larger and would be great to use, however it isn't 100% accurate either, and $2000 is far less affordable. Not to mention the bigger your model, the bigger the set you have to build.

As far as borrowing models, (esp. from members of the RPF.com) it has been mentioned before, however Ady has expressed his concerns about accidentally breaking someone else's model and has so far turned down the option.

Well look at it this way. Lando is a cool and clean guy he would have them waxing those floors and cleaning those windows. The empire wouldnt have enough time to keep the death star spic and span with all the traffic throughout the station. Plus everywhere else is dirty to show really how opressed the people are. It really all makes sense. Have you ever been to a fancy hotel with shiney floors. Cloud City is just like that everywhere except were the mining goes on.

Ady, how long do you think it will take you to build that Falcon? That looks like a ton of work. Should we expect a 2015 release now?

I noticed it too about "Bring my shuttle" when capping the DC laserdisc.

I was thinking maybe that wonky shot in the canyon where the two TIEs explode real good. Got any TIE models? ;)

Here's some pics of the models used friom the SW in 365 days book. If Ady hasn't already seen them, this is likely  something like what he'll be building.

Why would he need to build that? The Falcon is what needs replacing, NOT the asteroid.

He'll probably just film his MF against a blue screen and be done with it.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Awhile back Ady implied or outright said he was also going to build part of canyon walls if I am not mistaken.

yes, i'm having to build a new canyon for when the 2 TIEs collide, luckily i don't have to replace the crater because i wouldn't have the room to build something that size.

funny that you mention the 365 days book because that's one of the things i have asked the wife to get me for my birthday next week.

Yeah, I thought those pics could help a little bit, give you some reference and info. Of course you don't have to do it exactly like ILM did it, but I believe it helps a bit to have some BTS photos.

I really don't see whats wrong with the Millenium Falcon/Tie Fighters in the asteriod/canyon chase. It looks fine to me. I don't see why adywan is going through the hassel of recreating the asteriod/canyon chase with models, I don't see what's in dire need of fixing?

Because the elements/colouration in the couple of shots where the TIEs collide, and when we see the Falcon with the resulting explosion behind it as it goes through the canyon passage, are probably among the worst effects in the entire movie, and spoil what is otherwise a terrific sequence.

Nice work on that latest Bespin city interior shot Adywan, by the way.  The proper colouring to the uniform is excellent, as are the vibrant sky / clouds / buildings seen through the windows.
