I have to admit, I kind of like the strange noises things make in the PT.
Though I do agree that it gets to be a bit much when every ship seems to use buzz bomb tech (going by their sound).

i never noticed the landing pad mania in the PT until you mentioned it. its not like we see luke land his xwing in ESB, it just gets mentioned. i wonder if these little tit bits are what could change the PT just that little bit extra? maybe a landing pad allowance could be established.
Well just only keep the ones that establish something.....like a new planet or something. But we dont need to be shown every single landing on Coruscant for instance. Move things forward a little. Break a landing up with an interior shot once in a while. Lucas just resorted to an fx shot each time. Boring.
shanerjedi said:On gripe I have with the PT is the sheer number of landing pad scenes. It's like Lucas fell in love with showing a ship landing in the OT and went overboard on it with the PT. We don't need to see a ship take off and land. be more creative. Maybe show a landing from the cockpit for once...or better yet, cut to the ship already parked...shocking
This is totally correct. I don't know how many behind the scenes pictures I have seen of a landing ramp of a ship on a green screen set.
We have discussed in other threads the small cut scene where Vader and Luke walk down a shuttle ramp and walk across the hanger bay in ROTJ. Luckily, the editor of ROTJ had enough sense to cut it out. The film has too many landing ramp scenes as it is.
Imagine the rebels landing on Endor in their shuttle. Instead they show it flying and then cut. Now it's parked.
PT Lucas would've shown the shuttle coming in for a landing. Needless.
Lucas really got into the whole thing with the SW SEs. Like the one you mentioned from ESB SE and also the Falcon lifting off from Bay 94 in SW. I liked the old when when it just blasted off and the troopers look up.

Very true indeed.
Still i like the new SE Xwings take off from yavin instead of dots

Yes, and how they lock their s-foils in attack position in a more random order, too. I don't know why they did it in sequence originally, like they were performing an aerial show for the queen or something. ;)

Yeah, i think I do too. And it doesn't add anything to the existing sequence, just replaces an existing shot with something more dynamic.
I was wondering if somehow is possible to show when maul and qui gon is fighting to somekind the lightsaber hit a panel( aka in ROTS when obi and ani hit a panel and open a door) just before they enter to the red rayshield doors. That will explain why the doors act weird that open and close.

Maul does throw a bit of debris up to open the doors between the hanger and the power station.
i have been wondering for a while, if little 'hand' shots would look out of place. like a gloved hand of maul pressing a button, or the emperor handing vader a new lightsaber in ROTS. it would be like those shots in captain scarlet and thunderbirds that were like human hands pressing buttons on control panels where the puppets could not.
they wouldnt be too hard to do assuming that the skin colour and costumed sleeve were correct. the wall and panel could be rendered digitally, or maybe the 70s black console and glass buttons could be constructed?
out of curiosity, what did people think of the little addition of luke pressing a button in his x-wing in the asteroid battle? apart from the obvious gloved hand and orange sleeve, did it look out of place? if not then perhaps additional filmed pieces of exposition could really add to these films.

That was due to the limits of the FX at the time; the X-wing models were essentially on a line, which not only kept all the models in place but it also allowed the signal to be sent to all the models to open their wings. Personally, I can go either way with the shot: to me they ARE in formation as most military squadrons would be.
Regardless, this is from the EMPIRE thread:

My brain just exploded out of my eyesockets. That is about the most amazing reproduction of a prop I have ever seen!
That said, I don't know where additional Yoda footage is needed in ESB. It might be interesting as a 'Force ghost' in some radical ROTJ edit. But that is a topic for somewhere else.
I think this prop would be quite excellent as far as replacement shots of Yoda in the eventual PREQUEL:REVISITED series. Maybe get rid or slim down Yoda's "double chin" (though he would still be old, as this is roughly 20 years before ANH), but keep the overall design since it is essentially the same puppet model as EMPIRE and JEDI.
Regarding the "Luke pressing button" scene:
I kinda noticed it as most STAR WARS nerds would, but I did not find it distracting. If anything, I found it to be quick enough that it didn't stick out in a bad way, but recognizeable enough to think it was a clever way of showing Obi press the button. You may have to give Obi some gloves and recolor the orange jumpsuit to brown (we can assume Obi put on gloves to fly the fighter, and later when he gets out that he took them off, so continuity is not too big on that issue).

I am completely comfused. What Luke Button scene are you talking about?
i did a cut of the asteroid battle in AOTC, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VASUJhw-qOc&feature=channel_page, using a very quick cut from luke in an xwing from ANH of him presing a button to show obi wan pressing a button in his fighter.
it was more to experiment with the flow of the scene, because if it wasnt objectionable, then perhaps we could slip in filmed elements of our own, of hands doing stuff to illustrate things.

I found it very distracting. Its obviously lukes hand in an xwing. I do have to admit Im intrigued by you taking Boba out. I hate that he's a clone now. One of the few things in the PT that I can't stand.

Here are a couple of mockups showing Bail Organa's ship landing on Dagobah.
This would serve two purposes, now Yoda doesn't have to hide his escape pod in the swamp (he just walks down the ramp) and it explains why Luke finds the place so familiar (he was born there and not on some fancy asteroid base in the middle of nowhere):
wow, theyre well good bingowings! i was thinking of this the other day.
i guess the shot from the deleted scene of yoda exiting the pod could be modified to show yoda exiting an off ramp perhaps, followed by a shot of the ship leaving.
where did you get the background from?

Really cool! But if you can (if you or someone manages to make the scene) please do it similar to the Falcon approach to Yavin 4 (as in: we see it head to Dagobah, it flies over the shroud of fog and the following shot is it already landed above. Please, no more PT landing shots... <:( )

The backgrounds are all from the deleted scene of Yoda landing (I just replaced the pod with the ship).
Yeah, the swamp background was actually a miniature built by the ILM model shop.
Nice work bingowings.
Very nice, Bingo. Some of your best yet, I think.
And hey, it's another ship landing scene! :p

I call for a montage of Prequel Ship Landing scenes! Someone put it on YouTube and let's see how not to progress a story!

it would be interesting, at least from an editing point of view to see a list of landings from the PT and OT, and a list of not-landings too. im assuming that the OT may have lacked the landings as they would have been tricky to make with models. incidentally, we never see an x wing land i dont think.

That would be funny. I hope someone (Davnes?!) will actually do it.
Oh, and speaking of Davnes, if you haven't watched his video called "Full House Wars", you must! :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMiGLKif8w4&feature=channel_page

For you (and not as nice sadly, looks a bit like Lynch's Harkonnen ships going in for the kill) here's the ship half way for that full Millenium Falcon style sequence (yeah it's a landing but it takes out the asteroid sequence altogether and seeing as it's an element from the Alderaan landing and replaces the landing from the deleted scene it's one landing scene replacing three) :
Maybe Angel (or anyone) could enhance the landed shot with some Nostromo style floods?
