Please forgive my ignorance Jedi soundtrack fans (I only have ever had the one disc vinyl version that came out with the film) but has the piece that Max Reebo plays on the barge (and after Boussh) ever been released?

And if so what is it called?

It took a while but I've finally given each disc a solid listen.  I pretty much have to agree with everyone else in the thread.  These remasters are simply excellent.  They've re-ignited my passion for these soundtracks I haven't had in years.  The overall depth and staging in many of the cues has been greatly increased and sounds much more lively.  Highs and lows are very well balanced.  Tape noise and hiss (ANH particularily) are hardly intrusive and add a natural warmness to the recordings, never sounding too processed and sharp like later editions.  I also love being able to hear a chair shuffle ever so softly during the very low key parts because it adds a very "front row" feel.  ESB has always been my favorite and The Battle In The Snow one of my favorite actions cues of all time.  It just sounds a lot more alive now with a wider, deeper sound (and none of the hiss I remember from the SE versions) that couldn't be any closer to sitting in the room.

I didn't do much in the way of comparative listening between the versions I have (or had, since these pretty much are my standard now).  Like I said, my re-awakening to these soundtracks might be altering how different they seem to sound to my ears but if these versions can make me feel like I used to when I first starting listening to them, then that's the best I can say about them.

Bravo.

This is a beautiful compliment to what has been intented here! Thanks! :)

... And I think you're right: it's a real (and new) discovery.

ABOT ROTJ final version, just would I like to say I haven't edited my track by track report, but now a little bunch of cues (the best ones) from CD2 are now perfect to my hears. Anyway the experience will talk better than words.

Return of the Jedi is one of my favorite scores so i cannot wait to hear your version 2, ABC.

One of my favorite pieces has always been the sail barge assualt also titled The Return of the Jedi.

Its a great swashbuckling piece which reminds me of Erich Korngold.

I always loved when the music comes in right when Luke flips artoo a salute does a backflip summersault back onto the skiff and extends his hand to recieve his Lightsaber which artoo just launched like a missile.

That and the swing across on the skiff reminds me of the swashbuckling outrageous fun of what is now called Episode IV a new hope.

Empire Strikes back may be the perfect star wars movie, but star wars is the most fun and the best adventure.  Jedi is the best from nostalgia if it was the first star wars you saw in theaters like i did in 1985 and i found it to be a revelation.    What could be better than Transformers or HE man, i was in star wars heaven and on cloud nine and wanted to be a jedi knight like luke skywalker.

Star Wars is like crack for a seven year old.  I bet my dad who was always primarility a fan of shatner on star trek the tv show later regretted introducing me to another one of my crazes, lol.

I've been looking for this piece for some time now. You're right, it's one of the masters that were lost and never released. There's a slight part of it used in EditDroid's isolated score release of ROTJ but it's only about 10 seconds of it that is then looped. It's also used in the documentary 'From Star Wars To Jedi', but these, I think are the only sources.

It looks like we are never gojng to get it, but I'm still putting it out there that if anyones knows where I can get more of this track I would be eternally thankful!

Greetings ABC,

I never thanked you for the music you gave to me previously and I'm doing so now. Thank you so much!

It's surprising how good these old records can sound when such love and dedication is applied in re-mastering them. I thought they would be full of crackles and pops just like they sounded back on the old turntable day's, but boy, was I wrong. For instance the clarity of the bells coming through at the very start of the main theme almost make it seem like a different piece of music now.

And double thanks for the new downloads of the ROTJ score. Can't wait to listen to them.

I had always considered Jedi's score to be inferior to the other films scores, but in recent years I have listened to it separate from the film and have begun to appreciate it so much more. I now consider Jedi's score to be the equal to the others and think that it is vastly under rated. Listening to the score separately has actually deepened my appreciation for the movie it's self. Flat acting or bad Ewok costumes magically transform into their true intent and emotion when you 'really' hear the music behind them. John Williams truly seems to understand the deeper, interconnected themes that run throughout the trilogy, even possibly better than George Lucas himself.

One little question? Why do the tracks get chopped up into so many separate parts in these re-masterings? Don't get me wrong. I love the work you've done. It's just that the flow in some of the music is broken and would be better served if joined together. I guess it's just the way the original tracks were recorded during the scoring sessions.

Anyway, great stuff.

Hello ABC,

I almost felt bad after posting some minor critisism about your original remasters about the RotJ XS-Remaster. I have absolutely no regret now, because you've definately paid attantion and... wow! Your new remaster of RotJ sounds absolutely amazing! I haven't listened through the entire set yet, but I've paid attention to some of my favourite pieces such as "Return of the Jedi/Sail Barge Assault" and now they sound better than the original remaster, and miles far away and beyond the Anthology set.

I've also heard TESB Remaster a few days back and it was crystal clear and amazing. Now RotJ is finally up to that quality.

Honestly, my deepest thanks.

As a sidenote, a question to you sound gurus - what's the (aduio) quality of TPMs soundtrack? It's the only one I don't have, despite it being my favourite from the prequels. I hope it's nearly not as back as the image quality of the movie itself...

ABC, thank you so much for generously sharing your work as well as 7FN's set. I've just started to listening to your ESB and it sounds fantastic. It's such a rich sound that it really draws me in and brings back the feeling of seeing the films and hearing the soundtracks for the first time, except now there is a clarity and depth I've never heard before.

Hmm... a Gungan life debt?? I might be open to it... depends if someone finds this track or not!

I love the final version of Return Of The Jedi it is better than anything out there and I thought your previous release was as good as it could get.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The flow shouldn't be broken (- ok perhaps a tiny little "tilt" sometimes -) if you respected the 0'sec. pause tracks (on the infos.txt).

Now to the point: when clarity began to come back I noticed all the differences of sound, and so, of recordings. Even if some looks to be the continuity of a track, they're different. I needed them separate to deal with them in a different way each... And if you take CD1, track 3 on RotJ, I should have separate "Death Star In Array" wich sounds a medium quality, with the "Tatooine Rendez-Vous" part wich sounds very good.

All the tracks on RotJ that are separated with fades, from the Emperor room to what happens on Endor really are different recordings with different sound. Yes I know: hard to hear on the SE's ! :p However, I agree I could edit some tracks to be joined together... But I'm working with very "roots" materials and software, and it's finally fine to me that way.

On ESB for exemple I wanted to keep "Departure of Boba Fett" as a 8min track (with "Luke Pursues The Captives"), but here again, I had to work the track alone, a bit for remastering, and mostly to flip the inverted stereo... Indeed, that was quite bothering on this one and I always thought this track had a strange relief (due to that). Btw, it's the only flipped track I corrected.

Anyway, be sure nothing is hasardous on these separations.

:) ... And thanks a lot for these feedbacks. I was wondering if the new changes on RotJ would be so obvious. :) Now I'm happy this work meets sensitive people.
