i think the wavelengths are certainly not far off. i found your videos really inspiring, and just starting my own has got over the technophobia for sure! cross dialogue would be a great idea between the two characters. whilst making the jango/obiwan video this morning, i had a bit of an idea.

jangos lady friend attempts the assassination on padme, leading to the investigation.

throughout obi wans investigation which will be slightly more extensive than merely chatting to dex - (who will be removed) he is constantly stalked by a character (a silhouetted jango). maybe one scene could even be in a club, and he could nod at obi wan (ROTJ boba could be used perhaps? although the difference in colours and armour is quite obvious). the key idea though, is that obi wan is being out manovered by this elusive figure at every turn. maybe killing enators along the way.

eventually obi wan is lead to kamino by yodas suggestion

now either

a) kamino is surrounded by the asteroid field enstead of geonosis, a surprise attack from slave I leads to the battle in the asteroid field. oni wan meets jango for real there and pursues him.

b) kamino is as is in the original film, and the asteroid battle is at geonosis. now that obi wan has spoken to jango, SSWR idea could be put to much better use here. obi wan could hide in the field when they real a stalemate. perhaps he has run out of ammunition, and eventually pulls the spare parts trick? i just like the idea of obi wan in a difficult spot, then us cutting to a different story, leading to the assumption that he has been sat around for ages!

blue engines! definitly! no idea how to do that though. anyone know if there is a way of just doing colour replace on FCP?

got carried away.

had a tinker with obiwan/jango fight in geonosis.

though one thought is to maybe have this scene as he is approaching kamino, as if they are protecting the secret from him.

I'm digging your style ben_danger...I think we're on similar wave lengths :)

Ya know what might help this fight? IF Jango were to be redubbed you could add him saying a thing or two to Obi over the intercom thingy (like in ROTJ)...

Man, I still hate alot of those CGI shots in this film...the camera and the ships are zooming around all over the place...there's no real weight to them...IMHO  :D

um...they ARE weightless. But I do see what you mean :)

A blue planet with an asteroid field around it, with slave one which is also blue and the sesmic charges that are blue and if you go for blue engines then....

I say keep the battle in geonossis and add some more blue for contrast with the orange red ;)

Introduce grievous in the shadows of the arena

(As confirmed in a video on the StarWars.com Hyperspace section, a deleted scene involved the Jedi battling the droid army on Geonosis, with the droids all powered down (just as they did in The Phantom Menace after the Trade Federation ship was destroyed). This was part of an unused subplot involving Jedi Master Plo Koon infiltrating the Trade Federation ship and destroying it. Dooku had planned for this and found an alternate way to power up the droid army.)

is there anyone out there who would have a decent copy of this scene

OK, something has just dawned on me while watching this again.

I *think* THIS was the original ending for AOTC. Yes, they would've chased Dooku and battled him but that would've been it! And you'll notice that no CLONES are in this video.

Here's a lovely quote regarding the first clone war battle:  "...we bypassed storyboards altogether and went straight into animatics." - Rick McCallum

Why no storyboards? Because Lucas decided to change the ending of the movie last mintue! It would have been a rehash of TPM ending so he changed it.

So *IF* I'm right (had Lucas contiuned with his original plan) Yoda never would've showed up with the clones at all! Interesting...

I *think* there's another quote of McCallum talking about Geogre coming in one day and saying something like "what if Yoda showed up last minute?" I don't know for sure...I'll try and find it....maybe on the commentary...

For people mocking the mock ups on these threads just look at what Lucasfilm were using.

It's shows just how much commitment and skill is around here.

Now if only we could get hold of the original elements....

Actually this would have worked as a fine alternative explanation for the droid powerdown in TPM with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon getting on the droid command ship (instead of Anakin accidentally blowing it up) and having them fight Maul on the ship instead of in the Naboo power station.

Ah, temp special effects.  Those are always fun to work with when you're editing.  I can only IMAGINE the headaches Ben Burtt had to deal with during ROTS - I mean, 95%* of that movie is CG, and editing that with temp effects ... *shudder*

*Rough estimate by me.  I stand by it and feel it's fairly accurate, though I haven't bothered to test it.

i love the way kia di mundi just presses the off button on the commandship to power down, as if the pilot would accidentally lean on it at any point when reaching for his coffee and cause a disaster!

maybe that why they lost.

it would have been interesting to see a cloneless ending, but i reckon the reason we dont see clones is because they are purely CG, and most clone shots seem to be purely CG anyway.

if there was enough footage and climax to cut ROTS into two movies, and have the clone entrance in the opening of that, it would be interesting to see.

That deleted scene from AOTC is great. I remember everybody talking about it when it was released on Hyperspace, and knew a lot of fans signing up for Hyperspace just to be able to view that video.

To me, that scene, even in its rough form, is even more exciting than battle we see in the movie. The added subplot of the Jedi actually creates some tension: we are lead to believe the battle is won once the Jedi shut down the controlship, because it worked in TPM. But when the droids start back up, we know the situation is much more serious. Also, it shows the Jedi went into the battle with a plan.

I also like the mayhem that is going on that scene. Jedi, droids, Geonosians, and even the two remaining beasts are kicking all kinds of **** out of each other. There is a great shot in there too, of the camara panning over dead Jedi on the arena floor. With Williams' score, that could have been a very powerful moment.

One thing Ive thought is having nearly the whole federation thing take place in one episode, droids and all.

Here's a question to ask:

In Star Wars, Lucas dropped us right into the middle of an ongoing battle. There was all this stuff before that happened off screen before the start, yet the part where we started made us not worry about all that stuff.

We didn't see the first major victory by the rebels. We didn't see the stealing of the plans, etc.

So, at what point should TPM start? In my opinion it should start after the invasion is over. It's nonviolent anyway(at least in the final cut). So what did we miss?

I like the idea of mirroring, not copying Star Wars. Then you have Episode 3 mirror ROTJ by inverting that whole story.

id like to see a TPM cut where the clone wars have already begun, and the events at naboo are just the current offensive. perhaps clones would not be used at this point, but even if they were it would be cool.

i agree that perhaps the PT just wasnt brave enough to trust the audience's powers of assumption as much. its too bad though that there wasnt the evil darth vader figure to clearly point out that 'THESE ARE THE BAD GUYS'.

is there a better quality version of any of that cut footage on hyperspace? especially interested in that shot with the dead jedi on the floor as stated earlier. just had a quick look myself, but  the website seems to be rather slow and difficult to find stuff.

ChainsawAsh, Ben Burnt didnt work on ROTS as an editor. Just sound.

You sure?  I always thought he edited all 3 PT films.

I'd look it up, but I'm about to head to class, so that'll have to wait.  Interesting, though - I'd always attributed the editing flaws of the PT to the (apparently false) fact that they were cut by someone who typically only works with sound.

Ep1 was edited Ben Burtt and Paul Martin Smith

EP2 was edited Ben Burtt and George Lucas

EP 3 was edited by Roger Barton and Ben Burtt

I agree with that. I like the idea of the CW just flaring up in the outer-mid rim when TPM starts and somehow inserting a few dialogue and visual "tie-ins" to suggest so.

sketch rob, Barton was sound editor for ROTS, not film. He did do a rough pass on the film, but Barton cut the final with Lucas.

Ben the butcher did enough of a number on both the sound and film of AOTC to bring about the demotion.

He did redeem himself with Wall-E and this month's Star Trek though.

Uhhhh....  believe me I'm no fan of Burtts editing lol cant stand teh editing in the PT as for sound editing the underuse of WIlliams music is truly the most heartbreaking thing for me with the PT

Egh, I never liked that concept of "mirroring" the episodes of the OT and PT - for me, it comes across as being a lazy writer and relying too much on the original films that came before the newer ones.

The thing I hate most about the PT, perhaps even more than the convoluted storytelling and good ol' Jar Jar, are the way some sound effects are presented. I refer specifically to half of the vehicles and even some of the stinkin' creatures! They all have this irritating warbling effect that I can't stand! A ship can't pass by without sounding like its engines are switching on and off ('vvvVVVvvvVVVvvvVVV...'), and even that tall green creature in the arena is like 'rrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrr...' Nothing can sound half normal in those movies.

On gripe I have with the PT is the sheer number of landing pad scenes. It's like Lucas fell in love with showing a ship landing in the OT and went overboard on it with the PT. We don't need to see a ship take off and land. be more creative. Maybe show a landing from the cockpit for once...or better yet, cut to the ship already parked...shocking

ROTS is the biggest offender. Landing pad mania!
