No no, I mean there's actually a ~200px high bar at the bottom that has completely different colour:

HAHAAA !!! You have the EYE ! OMG ! I've displaced my colour filter !!! Well done !

EDIT: I remember now, I re-centered the poster after have worked it (I changed my mind about it at the end... Unfortunately). That gives you an idea of what I made... Lol !

Haha, well I haven't really had the time to download them all! You know I loved your ROTJ set (has it changed since the APE links you gave me btw?) I only just downloaded your ANH set and hope to listen to it soon :-)

A bit. Track 12 sounds better for exemple, and so for a couple of tracks. There's one more track at the end (Jabba the Hutt from C. Gerhardt ).

Thank you again for this set ABC!!

I've only had time to listened to yours & 7FN's Empire Scores, BEAUTIFUL!!! especially the Album version of REBEL FLEET as it is known on the special edition album (where it is remixed by Risner). I think you have done a subtle but great improvement in your remaster ABC, I like the consistency and the warmth in the sound compared to my own edit of Empire. Really great! I miss some bits of music though, (but you didn't say it was complete) The Ice Planet Hoth is missing a little segment but it's hard to mix in with good results and the already mentioned alternate REBEL FLEET/END TITLE. I don't know if it's a mistake or not but you have placed JEDI MASTER REVEALED two times on the score, one from the Anthology & one from The Special Edition - remixed by Risner.

I'm looking forward to hear what you have done with STAR WARS.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

I don' t think so... Don' t you confuse "JEDI MASTER REVEALED" with "Yoda and The force" or something of this kind ? If you told which is the second track it would have been convenient for finding out.

JEDI MASTER REVEALED was part of CITY IN THE CLOUDS on the Anthology album and on the Special Edition it was placed correctly before MYNOCK CAVE, so you have it also on CD2 track 4.

Also, I see now that you have LUKE'S NOCTURNAL VISITOR twice on CD1, it was the second half of THE TRAINING OF A JEDI KNIGHT on the Anthology. This is just small things on a REALLY GREAT SOUNDING EMPIRE SCORE and it's easy to correct for yourself.

AMAZING! WORK! :D:D:D

only thing is I would love to have the new ROTJ celebration as a bonus track. Anyone know a cleaned up copy of that?

Oooh ok ! I remember having wondering if the first one may be an alternate. Anyway City in the Clouds sounds great with that cue, and I like to have it isolated too. So to answer your first question: it's not really a mistake.

I' m enjoying to read they're so good for you guys ! :)

For listening to these files I used

Winamp (Sorry I love winamp.)

Bose (computer system)

Sharp 92/5deck digital stereo (it sounds pretty)

The collection sounded great I just need to move to a place that i can crank it.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I finished downloading all of these last night.  Haven't been able to listen to everything yet, but what I have heard is quite impressive.  First up was the ANH vinyl transfer.  When the first notes of the theme hit me, my first reaction was that it had been sped up, or otherwise pitch-shifted in some way.  When I played it again I realised that no, of course it hadn't been, but the difference in tambor and sound quality was so startling that I didn't really recognise it at first.  It took a little while, but as I became accustomed to the sound, its sonic superiority became increasingly clear (even with the soft background of crackling one associates with LP's).

The improvements in EQ to the CD versions are also quite good.  In some places subtle, in others startling and revealing.  I've definitely heard details and even entire instrument parts that didn't seem to be there before, or that I'd only heard on other recordings.  The Throne Room from ANH is a revelation--I'd got so used to hearing it sound strained and harsh, but now it really sounds lovely.  Luke's defeat of Vader is RotJ is excellent as well.  In the game Jedi Outcast, that music is used as you prepare to fight the final boss--even as a lofi mp3, it sounded better than the CD version because it had a different equalisation.  Now it sounds much more like how it should.  I'm not even sure what's different about it specifically, but it's just better.  Thanks so much to ABC and 7FN for making these available!

My only gripe would be that I don't especially like the alternate take for the opening theme in ANH; I found some of the other ones on the CD more satisfying.  But I suppose that's a minor point.

Thanks for the accuracy of your feelings Hairy_hen, it's definitively a real pleasure to know how you people experience these versions, as to share this work with such auditors.

... And sorry for the Alternate opening, I like its simplicity very much and the sound it had - and I could made with it - made me vote for this one. I hope the whole listening experience will make you forget that. :)

I'm by no means an expert of any sort when it comes to Star Wars music or music in general but I have to say I LOVE this set. It's sounds so beautiful! You've done a wonderful job here ABC. This will definately be my definitive set from now on. =D

Oh ABC i just plopped in the original and put the alternate with the alternate tracks. It is the perfect set, I keep listening and I am finding more songs that were not on the anthology. I have the SE's but I cant listen to em on a count of they sound bad. But your set almost replaced my anthology. I just added some stuff from it.  Now for the cd burning of them. I will get the highest quality stuff for it.

@EyeShotFirst

I can't stand the Parade of the Ewok if it is what you're talking about. I think I heard it too many times when I was young. Hearing it in the end credits is no matter but is quite enough for me. I guess you took off at least one track to make this possible (76min)...?

Edit: And I don't like too much repetitions. That why my set is so... Exhaustive, in a way.

But your set almost replaced my anthology

"Almost"?... Only?!... :)

As a lot of you seem to agree the works presented here are worth the listen, even better, I allowed myself to change the topic name once more to simplify it, for the last time I think.

The shortest... The best ! :)

I finally got to listen to some of these. :) I concentrated on ROTJ and some of my favorite pieces from the other two.

As with any other remastering process, I kinda thought 'how much different could it really be?' But then I listened to the part where Leia is giving instructions in Echo Base and WOW! It's like there's another musician in the left channel that had never been there before! The sound is much deeper and more defined than the SE sets, which were supposed to be the ultimate versions. Ha! Everything is crisp and bright, where the SE sounds a bit...well, not muffled, but sort of narrow, if that's a proper term. Like the sound field is more focused in the center. Or like there's a layer of suet smeared on the whole thing. Ok, I'm rambling.  :p

ROTJ definitely sounds better, but it's a shame that the original recording quality is so much worse overall than the other two. I have no idea why, either. Do you?! You would think it would be the best, given that it was made later on. So many aspects of that film were sloppy. Still, ABC's version is definitely less hissy than the SE version, which was my biggest problem with it, so that's a plus.

I plan to give them a more thorough listen, of course, but these are just some quick thougts I have for now. Thanks again for such a great set!

Oh ABC I kept everything you sent me. I just plopped that one in their. I wont be making a cd too soon because. My best sound system  is hooked to my computer so No changes just additions. I always liked the parade of ewoks it sounded more like it belonged in a Spielberg film LOL.

Indeed... The guy's right ! I tought the second one a little reminiscent... Here's why ! So, that's a little mistake.

I suggest you go on GoodMusician topic and fill the search field with "Return Jedi transfer"... I'm sure you'll find more than a clue.

... What I can say is that mostly RotJ but the two others scores too are full of different mixing or transfer qualities as if each track had been considered isolately. I only heard such things on some "complete scores" stuff or recording sessions sometimes. RotJ has 51 tracks, that makes almost 51 different settings. I say "almost" because I sometime recognized I had to make the same settings on a group of different tracks, dispatched here and there (a little the same for ESB).

To notice the RSO ESB album is not "perfect" neither from this point of view and if I had to make a remaster I would class them into at least 2, even 3 groups, to deal with them before I could make their sound fit together. Another thing weird is that the RSO ESB has a different relief for the orchestra than the Anthology, but in the same time they have the same particularities (lack of flexibility, mostly in the highs frequencies which seem to have been recorded too strong for most of the tracks: small saturation; and wich also are a little narrow).

I think these differences may first depend on the recording dates (you have them on the backcover and they are quite numerous). Perhaps they tried to give different tempers to the music. I don't know, I just guess.

... From my point of view, it is what gives a certain richness to these scores too and I'm quite happy they didn' t try to turn these to the "perfect sound" fashionable standarization for CD's... Mostly the Sony one !

But you said it, RotJ remains a poor recording... For a most part.
