I've been thinking about that youtube critique of Luke's plan to rescue Solo.
What if it's not exactly Luke's Plan.
Lando, (as the guy says) make's sense, he's the man on the inside, checking out the layout of the palace and to serve as backup if Leia doesn't succeed.
Chewie is a means to getting Leia into the palace by giving her disguise some validity.
So far this looks more like Leia's plan (something that Chewie and Lando would feel duty bound to go along with).
Artoo and Threepio seem to have wandered in from an entirely different plan (they carry Luke's message and Luke's hidden weapon).
What if Luke told Lando to use his charm and connections to check the place out and told the others to wait for him but when he turns up on Tatooine he finds his sister has the family trait of lack of patience when emotional attachment is involved.
Luke senses this while in Ben's Hut and has to figure out a rescue plan for the rescue plan.
I haven't a clue how to get this up on screen yet but I thought I'd just throw it out there in the hope that it would get the ball rolling.
Also I've never been convinced that Luke would fall for the old trap door routine, he isn't the farmboy of ANH anymore he's a Jedi Knight who managed to get away from being cornered by Vader so I just can't see him standing on the right spot to fall into a trap like that.
Dropping Oola down the trapdoor would be a good set up for twisting the expectations of the audience around.
It might be more fun if Luke avoided the trapdoor entirely (especially if it backfired on Jabba) but found some other way of getting into the Rancor Pit (perhaps while trying to get to the cells to free Han and Chewie).
Any other ideas and how to pull them off?
