I think it was modified to allow for the extra little bit of footage of the Falcon & Slave fly-by.

And create the worst repeated cue while the camera shows slave follows the MF.

Ady: In the asteroid chase there is a big asteroid that is like painting and its not moving. Are you going to do something about that?

But won't the shot of the MF and Slave I fly-by be cut out if I remember(because it wasn't realistic at all)? In that case the original music could be restored as it originally was in the movie before the DVD (even in the SE VHS it was like the GOUT, the DVD screwed it all up).

I didn't mind the shot itself, except for the fact that in one shot, the Falcon flies OUT of the line of garbage, followed by Slave 1, only to see in the following SE shot that they are still flying alongside a trail of garbage.

As I mentioned earlier, not only is Ralph McQuarrie in the rebel transports scene on Hoth, but Joe Johnston also is the one speaking.

It should stay. I'm sure Ady will come up with a cool background in the spirit of these original masters.

edit:

And someone mentioned above that all the clouds around the new Cloud City shot distract from the city. I disagree. They actually frame the point of focus and draw our eye right to the center where the city is.

Wow, that Cloud City shot is stunning, Ady.  Incredibly realistic.  I'm sure it looks even better in motion.  Great work!

I don't have a great deal to add to what's already been said, so let me just echo the accolades thus far presented. Great job, Ady! The new shot (or rather, shots) is a tremendous improvement over the original. Enhances believability as well as aethetic appeal. The more screenshots you release, the more my interest in this project skyrockets. :)

Thats the asteroid that i was talking about.

Plus the light direction is a mess :)

one thing about the carbonite scene is when han is being lowered into the carbonite, his hands are tied.  but when he emerges, his hands are suddenly freed

Author

No, that was ret-conned a while ago.

Just before they lower him in, you see a couple of ugnaghts stop in front of him and do something, but because it's at the very bottom of the screen you can't tell what.  Han keeps his hands in the same position, so the explanation is that they took the cuffs off him at the last second and he just didn't feel the need to move his hands at that point, since it wouldn't have gained him anything anyway.

As for the strap across his back connected to the bands on his arms, that was explained away as being made of a form of carbonite that melted into the rest of the block, which is why it wasn't there when Leia freed him in ROTJ.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I've seen the ugnaughts take the cuffs off his wrists, but that arm-strap explanation sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me.  Yet another stupid EU explanation to something that was just a simple mistake in filming ROTJ that didn't need an explanation.

Hey

Watching oh_riginal's (interesting) video, it reminded me something that bugged me with the DVD, yet I'm not too sure about it: I believe that in the DVD version the musical cue has been moved a bit earlier compared with the SE VHS or OUT version.

On the DVD, when Han says "Detach!", the music begins (see pic below).

But in my mind the piece had always begun a bit later, during the following shot (see pic below).

I don't know whether I'm hallucinating or not, so has anyone noticed that?

I don't know if anyone noticed this post of mine on page 350, among the furious debate of the Falcon holo :D

I just checked my really old VHS (I got at Value Village on Sunday), and you're right. :)

On the VHS, Han's theme starts just after the 'clunk' sounds of detachment. On the 2006 SE DVD, just as Han says "Here we go chewie..." some gentle violin music starts, and after Leia says "You have your moments", Han's theme finally starts.

I think it was modified to allow for the extra little bit of footage of the Falcon & Slave fly-by.

Quoted because I think this is rather important and should definitely be addressed.

i guess maybe the strap could have snapped, and when han falls out of the carbonite in ROTJ, it could be added and just fall on the floor perhaps.

Perhaps in ROTJ:R Ady could just show the strap still stuck in the Carbonite when Han falls out.

I just want to point out we are not "Adywan's yes-men" contrary to some beliefs I think this is an open conversation about things that could be improved, when they are it's obvious to be happy about it. I bring this up because of some perceptions floating in the air of other threads. Carry on

"For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire." - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"Now the Jedi are all but extinct" - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"I hate old times" - Batman to John Stewart, A Better World

Sometimes Ady does change his mind when faced with an arguement he sees as valid but ultimately it is his edit so when it's made perfectly clear he isn't going to do something it doesn't make sense to keep going on about it here when those ideas could be put elsewhere for other editors to pick up.

At the moment the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist thread is a good place for ideas Ady has clearly stated he isn't running with in this edit but other people might.

There are no yes or no men or women here (other than Ady himself who has to do the work on this project), we are all perhaps and maybe people.

I agree with you on that Bingowings, but I sensed in other threads a different idea.....

When it comes to the music being changed The SE had one moment were I was more than happy. Very Happy. When Boba Fett says put captain solo in the cargo hold 2 notes get looped to fit in the song for the OUT. But in the SE they undo the loop so now it makes sense musically. But then they play the Losing a hand song again with the Vader Star Destroyer scene which doesnt work.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Very good! maybe the x wing to be more down to have a better comp, but hell is awesome!

I like the plane remains, reminds me that in bespin can have air creatures/dragons that expand the universe.
