does anyone find that when editing a downloaded avi on a mac that the sound doesnt work? both AE and FCP both seem to omit the music ive had to rely on youtube rips just to pull the mp3 of them.

for mac, mpeg streamclip is your friend, you can rip to many formats including DVCPRO50, uncompressed, or, if you have FCP ProRes. Fairmount and MacTheRipper can be used to handle the copy protection

I do like the concept, but I think I like Monroeville's idea of having the crowd noise go silent when jabba hits the gong, with the first alien only coming out to the sound of it's footsteps (kind of like a hushed silence to see what it will do; this seems like a good way to add still more tension to the scene), and music and crowd noise coming back after it screams.

I really like the silence and new crowd noices + drums. But during the kiss there should be a some music (not much), just to give it that little extra.

I'm usually not a fan of adding more connections between the PT and OT because it makes the universe look so tiny, but here it really works! It actually improves Jaba's character.

However, why does he -instead of the Geonosian leader- get to start the games?

theres no logic behind it really. maybe he ate their boss. ill have a stab at the slipping the music in, and playing with the crowd noise more.

Is there a way to put Jabba in the background, with the Geonosian still signaling the start (as it is his planet, after all).

yeah that will be easy enough, ill give it a stab later. it all depends on how different the whole edit is in the wider scope of things. insect king is really cool, but will require a new voice.

done stage 3, mainly focussing on the great idea from guitarfan to have silence before the monsters enter. i couldnt get the luke\leia theme to work that well and didnt have time to fiddle with it enough, so left it out. to be honest the music for me detracts from the quite shouting outside. where do you think it would fit best? the kiss, or the 'i love you'? (or both!?). i want people to be primarily involved with the characters, but in the back of their minds be aware of the looming noise outside. if most of the film has music, the silence could provide a break from the intensity, so we feel a bit more intimate with the characters. the original cut of AOTC felt like being told that they were in love because the director says so.

also need to add some stomping and heavy breathing to rhino thing at the end. i tried slowing down the entrance to make it a bit more menacing. any ideas of where to source that? couldnt find the puddle from jurasic park on youtube anywhere! if only there was a way to cut in some sinbad style stop motion dinosaurs enstead.

what do you think about the colour correction? ill get some comparisons up, its quite a difference, albeit hard to notice in isolation. if only i had vaderious eye for colour.:P

i am using 3 tools for this in FCP

1   RGB balance

2   Brightnes/Contrast

3   Hue/Saturation/Lightness

in the 5th clip ive added another layer using the 8 point garbage matte tool. this allowed the sand to be more yellow.

which bits work/dont work do you think?

the aliens and multiple race would be good. it would also make jabba less random.

ill splice some TPM pod racing crowd in as an experiment.

vaderos' mockups are definitly the ultimate aim, the sand is the tricky bit though. ill try some more.

i got the crowd noise from a football game.:P i'm thinking of reinventing AOTC a bit, so any preconceptions of, well, anything can be changed. if the seperatists are really multiracial, then maybe we will get a better idea of 'a galaxy divided'. geonosis could be made to look like the anti-coruscant perhaps?
