ben danger, they are indeed. It's an island off the coast of Africa.

Let me grab some more images and a link.

Maybe slightly modified this could be a planetary shot of Utapau:

Another interesting rock formation:

Wow. very interesting!

Still i liked utapau as it have. Very unique and cool design.

There are other places in SW universe that look FAKE. for example. we can use your awesome rock pictures to recreate the CG canyon when the clones shoot the jedi (adi gallia's cousin(!)) with the speeders.

Naboo now is pretty awesome as it has. Probably several shots need other mood or new establishing shots.

Edit: now i reconsider the idea that the palace in the cliffs is a good idea for jabba's palace.

Like the style on Bravestarr. i think it can work.

Really i cant wait to find some time to make a good dramatic new matte for jabba's palace with new elements and location.

i can't wait either!;)

just been thinking more down the jabba path. someone a while ago suggested posibly amalgimating geonosis and tatooine in some context. if so, the execution of padme/anakin, could be presided over by JABBA himself. maybe swap that droopy mosquito king with jabba? the palace, and area around tatooine that is seen in ROTJ could be tweaked to include an arena perhaps, just as AOTC could also be modified.

imagine he is like an ex lord of many worlds, once great before the clone wars, now ruined to strike deals with scum and smugglers.

I think I remember the specific line "I was killing your kind when being a Jedi meant something"

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

Who/When/Where/To whom said that?

yeah, it was in the above comic adaptation and the ROTJ novelization.

That should be added to ROTJ. Would be a great addition. And makes Jabba seem more ruthless and cunning.

Maybe because of some secret the planet holds? Maybe?

Though its nice idea it would be another plot hole in the end, people attack episode 2 already for the fact that it never follows up who ordered the army etc. To create another reason why they are there is also like creating a story, must have a beginning, middle and an end.

Author

No, you can create another reason via reshuffling some dialogue

magnoliafan already showed this very thing with his edit of TPM.

It not only can be done. It already has been.

ive had a stab at a little video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60Knw5fyJV8&feature=channel_page

based on the idea of having JABBA as a seperatist goon

features:

JABBA enstead of, whoever mr reverse talking mosquito king was

removal of music

insertion of crowd noise (need a better source than an american football game though!)

execution drums to act as music to build tension

a tiny bit of colour correction, in one of the shots.

i used JasonN's TOTR for the AOTC footage as it was the only avi version to hand, so thanks go to him for the better pacing of those scenes.

nice mock-up, ben_danger!

I like the idea of having the Hutts being a part of the Separatists. It makes a lot of sense for the greedy Hutts to join the Separatists which consists of other greedy factions like the Trade Federation.

I'd keep Jabba in the background though, and keep Poggle making the announcement in the arena. Geonosis is his planet after all.

Maybe it would be cool if we could put Jabba in the meeting Obi-Wan is spying on. That meeting is filled with cartoonish characters anyway, and adding Jabba might make it a little more serious. We could even use Christopher Lee's dialogue from the Clone Wars movie to work the involvement of the Hutts into the dialogue.

thats a great idea with the clone wars dialogue, i will definitely try it. ive been thinking of MAYBE merging geonosis and tatooine in some fashion, but it could make the 'unknown planet in the armpit of the universe' a bit too busy.

having jabba as a background character would work well. i think having him talking was a bit too much 'look, TPM footage works!', but i like the idea of jango working for him like boba does, and the seperatist gang being partially controlled by him.

does anyone here use final cut? i have been making simple cut and paste edits using it, but this was the first one using overlaying objects. is there a way i can make overlayered footage in alternative shapes? i got the square by cropping the left/right/top/bottom sides and resizing it.

the whole idea of this edit is to provide a stronger link in ROTJ for the JABBA opening, it will hopefully make it more of a culmination of six films as oppose to three, with JABBA being an old goon from the previous series.

jedimasterfisher mentioned on youtube that it doesnt work as well without music, i think i agree, but the music i always found conflicting with the 'impending death' emotions that the scene could be providing us with. does anyone have any ideas for an alternative 'anakin-padme' love theme that could be used? may try it with the 'luke-leia' theme.

That clip made me to resee the arena battle and GOD how bad composited are the droids! The shadows are under their fit are missing sometimes they are floating over the ground and some elements are in bad place...

The colors from the other side is a bit mixed up and the bluescreen elements/actors not coorporate so well.

Also a good thing is to show that the Jedi are smart, but the droids were hundreds. What i mean is at least to show a Jedi effort to use the force to close/collapse the gates that brings the droids but are too many to hold them.

Plus when the gunship arrive and take them away, after a short dialogue we see lasers from the ground to try to hit the ships.

The lasers are coming from the wrong directions..

I actually like that scene with no music. works well. To use a shape other than a square use the 8-point garbage matte tool in fcp. It wont be perfect but it will look better

I agree with the concept, Jabba and drums.

The idea of Jabba having power before the Empire and something happening to drive him underground, or he was just a more powerful "godfather" type, ala how the Mafia had its heyday in the 40's and 50's and now it's almost just about nostalgia.

I think the drums and more "violent" chanting/cheering work A LOT better... maybe the drums and cheering could get louder as the gates for the creatures are shown and then open... they are about to get eaten alive.  I think to go to some of the Roman films in the 50's to get an idea of that "feel" as well as other movies like KING KONG or ZULU to capture that "character is helpless to the heathen masses" feeling those films evoke...

Maybe the crowd could actually start chanting something louder and louder until the creatures show, where the audience then goes silent, creature howls, audience lets out a roar.

And whoever does any of the edits, change the stupid creature sounds please?  I know Lucas was going for an alien sound but some of it is way overboard.

In the movie, yes. But not in the TV show.

yeah, samuel l jackson voices mace windu too. anthony daniels also voices c3po in the whole series too i think.

i've always wanted to do an AOTC edit, but dont really have the expertise to do so. i like the idea of the zulu references. if there was to do an edit, id want to hoard such references to create something along the lines of STAR WARS: THE PLANET OF DOOM, with a hard pulp feel to anakin and obi-wan.

thanks for the fcp pointer octorox. i just got hold of a copy of after effects, so had a go at masking a closer shape to jabba http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwVB-zpcxjk&feature=channel_page . for some reason it wont upload to HQ so its looks terrible. there is full colour correction on this version, but some bits do seem too dark because of the upload. next question though for an after effects whizz, is there a way to make a mask, and then set it to change shape? eg make a square blob for the beginning of a 5 second shot, and have it slowly morph into a circle blob at the end? could make jabbas arm movements and him shuffling towards the camera work better.

this has been asked before, but i cant find the post.

is there any decent FREE software that i can use to convert a DVD to an editable file type, be it avi, mp4, quicktime etc?

does anyone find that when editing a downloaded avi on a mac that the sound doesnt work? both AE and FCP both seem to omit the music ive had to rely on youtube rips just to pull the mp3 of them.

I'd like to know, too. I don't even know how to rip something to post on YouTube! Maybe I should ask Davnes or SSWR1 or someone like that how they do it.
