Han says, "Don't worry, Chewie and me got into places a lot more heavily guarded than this." Shouldn't it be, "Chewie and I got into places a lot more heavily guarded than this."

Now doesn't that look sweet?
This would require the Death Star to rotate so that the window will be facing the battle later.
When it rotates, the lighting on the window frame should change. I think that would be very difficult to do.
You guys don't seem too enthusiastic about this idea. I think it would be great for ROTJ: R. But it is a long ways away. I wish I had Adywan's or Vaderio's, or this dude Davnes007's, skills. I would start whipping out my own ROTJ: R right now. Davnes007, could you tell me how you made this image?
Well, trust me, it's not as hard as it looks...it's just takes time.
(I think these steps should work the same in Paintshop and Photoshop, and other such apps. . I use Paintshop).
1. Copy-n-paste the Emperor frame you want to fiddle with.
2. Promote that layer so it's not a 'Background' layer.
3. Use the cut-out tool ('freehand selection', or 'lasso').
4. Take your time, and cut-out all the windows. (OMG, that's a pain in the butt! That's why some of the window frames look weird.)
5. Copy-n-paste a planet picture that you think will look right, and make sure its layer is under the 'Emperor' layer. (I used a frame from when Wedge shot out the DSII, and turned it 90 degrees, and enlarged it a bit.)
6. If you need to, copy-n-paste a starry background, and make sure its layer is under the other two layers.
That's all I really did, for that picture anyway. The main trick is to be able to work with the layers properly, so that the transparent areas (of the Emperor pic) let the other layer(s) show through.

Has there been any word on whether Ady is planning to restructure the opening of ROTJ:R this way? I hope he's planning something similar.
Out of the three films, I would say ROTJ has the shoddiest looking production value. While the space battle is great, a lot of the areas lack a fine polished feeling that ANH and ESB had. The movie doesn't have that feel that you are watching a galaxy far far away. It feels like you're watching a movie filmed in studios of California and London and in the forests of California. Oddly, ROTJ had the largest budget: $32 million I beleive, which I beleive was a lot at the time. ESB's budget was a little over $20 million and ANH was $10 mil.
Davnes007 said:ChainsawAsh said:Janskeet said:I'm a little confused by this idea of having Luke return to Ben's home in ROTJ?
By the way, your digital compositing work looks great!
The idea is to restructure the beginning of ROTJ. The way I see it working best is like so:
- Opening crawl
- Vader visits Death Star
- Leia delivers Chewbacca to Jabba
- Luke (who has been training on Dagobah since the end of ESB) sees Yoda die
- Leia releases Han and is captured
- Luke lands on Tatooine that night and goes to Ben's hut - "I can't do it, Artoo" - Ben's conversation with Luke (I'm in favor of getting rid of Ben's conversation altogether)
- Artoo and Threepio visit Jabba and get captured (no message delivery, straight to dungeon)
- Luke arrives, film continues more or less like normal from hereNote that the Luke on Dagobah/Chewie's "bounty" scenes could be flipped, but I think this works best for pacing.
I'd be willing to give this idea a try, if that's okay with you?
Most of those ideas are taken from the ROTJ "Fan-O-Matic" thread (http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ROTJ-Fan-O-Matic-3-new-clips/post/284748/#post284748) - SSWR did a rough "mock-up" edit of the beginning of the film that's on YouTube (he's up to part 5 at the moment, which is to say up until the Rebels land on Endor). Part 1 is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJOLKUR-420&feature=related, and parts 2-5 you can find on the links on the right-hand side of the screen.
I don't know if SSWR is planning on going any further than this - he's said that his thread is meant to give ideas to other faneditors, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind in the least if you use his ideas.
I myself am in the planning stages of an original trilogy edit (SW basically untouched, new ESB crawl, and ROTJ re-edited) using a lot of these ideas and this basic structure, but I almost want to wait until ROTJ:R comes out to see if I should even bother. My thread for that project is here http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-The-Trilogy-NEW-TEST-CLIP-AVAILABLE/topic/10122/ (shameless plug, I know - my apologies).
In short, I don't care in the slightest, go for it! I'd love to see someone tackle this - I have a lot more changes for ROTJ planned than I've let on, and ROTJ is the one movie I feel could benefit the most from a good fan edit, and it's a shame there are so few available.

A very interesting idea for restructuring the first part of ROTJ. There's just one little thing that doesn't make sense: Artoo and Threepio visit Jabba and get captured (no message delivery, straight to the dungeon.) Why would Luke send the droids to Jabba's palace without any purpose? Jabba's would just think that they were stray droids and wouldn't have any suspicion that they were part of a plan to rescue Han.
Here's how I would see it: Luke could have foreseen that Leia and Chewie had been captured, so he sends the droids as decoys to deliver his message to Jabba asking to release his friends in exchange for the droids. Knowing well that Jabba won't comply and will simply just take the droids, Luke enters the palace shortly after the droids are employed by the Hutt, and deal with him personally.

Indeed! It would be nice if that magic wan tool was really, really smart, or you could just tell it what to do. :p

Lol...cute video :D
I tried using the Background Erase tool, but most of window framing was too close to being black to be of much use.
@ChainsawAsh
If you've already got something planned, etc., I won't step on your toes with it...and the flow of events didn't appeal to me, personally, anyway. Happy Editing :)

Software and machines are completely constructed for specific Effects. Mostly these companies make their own software and hardware and enhance the current ones (3d max-maya etc)
Despite the fact that their computer power are superior and they have programs that is not available for public (f.e: Flint)
Thank god they still use Photoshop :P

Hah! I have an idea:
Take the idea of the sail barge collapsing into the sarlaac pit, then cut in the shot of the spice worm rising up from the sand in Dune and taking out that vehicle.
Take out the vehicle and replace it with a sail barge mockup.
There you go! :p
Hmmmm.....Empire + Dune = WOW
...I feel an epic idea-clip in the making :D
It's a little weird, and a bit jarring, but fun to watch I suppose. I don't think this one tops my 'Lando System?' video...but you can be the judge of that.

Did the Lando System video actually plug Ady's Episode IV revisited and also mention that Vader wasn't at Bespin?
Maybe you guys already noticed it, but I thought it was pretty funny.

:) Yep...it would be easier to see and read if I encoded the video in a better definition, but I've only got a Pentium 4, so it takes too long.

Not very happy but is an improvement.
Sure now the eye will go from sun to palace instead of the stupid creature.

^That's beautiful. And yes, that's a stupid creature. Sooooo Muppety. (which is fine if you're watching "The Muppet Show", of course, but in this context...)

That's a scene that could be implemented fairly easily into a movie, too, I'd think, as that scene is a static shot, basically. Just add a very slight movement to the clouds, maybe, and there y'go!
wow! just amazing!
I don't think we could talk you into posting a hi-rez version?
Infact, I would totally love a series of souped-up landscape shots from the SW galaxy for a screen-saver.
VERY nice vaderios! You just need to add a second sun and it'd be a perfect background matte.
edit: Oops... I just realized I didn't scroll to the right far enough... you really have to put these comparison picks one under the other :p

That is stunning! Great job.
Davnes007, that was genius. I knew you couldn't resist Dune and SW together. Thumbs up! I love mockups.

Thanx my man. I only wish there was an aerial view of the sail barge I could have used.

Yes but remember lukes rendezvous point was tatooine so their is a continuity issue. Just have it begin with death star. Then luke flies to Dagobah then we can just get to the rest
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
